  • This study is made to provide with a method for correcting the geometric distortion of the digital radiography image by analytical approach based upon the inverse square law and Beer's law. This study is aimed to find out and improve a mathematic model of nonlinear type. Variations in the alignment of the X-ray source, the object, and imaging plate affect digital radiography images. A model which is expressed in parameter values; e.g, angle, position, absorption coefficient, length, width and pixel account of radiography source, is developed so as to match the sample image. For the best correction of the digital image that is the most similar to the model image, a correction technique based upon tangent is developed; then applied to the digital radiography images of steel tubes. As a result, the image correction is confirmed to be made successfully.

  • A parametric study for analytical correction using measurement results was performed to minimize errors in the predictions of column shortening in RC tall building. The parameters of the column shortening analytical correction are the execution standard of analytical correction, the value of the analytical correction, and the measurement location, and the analytical correction models with the parameters were applied to the construction sequence analysis of a 41-story RC building to compare and analyze the correction effect according to the parameter. The reduction ratio of the error value for each floor was compared with the number of corrections and the total corrected value, and it was confirmed that the error tended to be minimized when the execution standard of analytical correction was performed based on a regular interval, when the analysis correction value was corrected by the error value, and when the measurement position was measured every floor. From this, it was confirmed that the most appropriate analytical correction model can be derived by applying multiple analytical correction models to the actual analysis model.

  • The nonlinearity parameter is frequently measured as a sensitive indicator in damaged material characterization or tissue harmonic imaging. Several previous studies have employed the plane wave solution, and ignored the effects of beam diffraction when measuring the non-linearity parameter ${\beta}$. This paper presents a multi-Gaussian beam approach to explicitly derive diffraction corrections for fundamental and second harmonics under quasilinear and paraxial approximation. Their effects on the nonlinearity parameter estimation demonstrate complicated dependence of ${\beta}$ on the transmitter-receiver geometries, frequency, and propagation distance. The diffraction effects on the non-linearity parameter estimation are important even in the nearfield region. Experiments are performed to show that improved ${\beta}$ values can be obtained by considering the diffraction effects.

  • The optimal design for water distribution system (WDS) is not only satisfying the minimum required water pressure of the nodes, but also minimizing pipe cost, etc. The number of designs of WDS increases exponentially due to the arrangement of various pipes. Various optimization algorithms were applied to propose an optimized design of WDS. In this study, Modified Hybrid Vision Correction Algorithm (MHVCA) with improved self-adapting parameter was applied to optimal design of WDS. The performance was improved by changing the Hybrid Rate (HR) of the existing Hybrid Vision Correction Algorithm (HVCA) to nonlinear HR. To verify the performance of the proposed MHVCA, it applied to mathematical problems consisting of 2 and 30 decision variables and constrained mathematical problems. In order to review the application results of MHVCA, it was compared with Harmony Search (HS), Improved Harmony Search (IHS), Vision Correction Algorithm (VCA) and HVCA. Finally, MHVCA was applied to the optimal design problem of WDS and the results were compared with other algorithms. MHVCA showed better results than other algorithms in mathematical problems and WDS problem. MHVCA will be able to show good results by applying to various water resource engineering problems as well as problems applied in this study.

  • We propose the robust nonlinear controller design methodology for the multivariable system which has hard nonlinearities (Coulomb friction, dead-zone, etc) and the structured real parameter uncertainty. The hard nonlinearity can be linearized by the RIDF technique and structured real parameter uncertainty can be modelled as the sense of Peterson-Hollot's quadratic Lyapunov bound. For this system, we apply the robust QLQG/H$_{\infty}$ control and then can obtain four Riccati equations. Because of the system's nonlinearity, however, one Riccati equation contains the nonlinear correction term that is very difficult to solve numerically, In order to treat this problem, using some transformations to Riccati equations, the nonlinear correction term can be eliminated. Then, only two Riccati equations need to design a controller. Finally, the robust nonlinear controller is synthesized via IRIDF techniques. To test this proposed control method, we consider the direct-drive robot manipulator system that has Coulomb frictions and varying inertia.

  • Interaction between system and disturbance results in system with time-dependent parameter. Parameter variation due to interaction has random characteristics. Most of the randomly varying parameters in control problem is regarded as white noise random process which is not a realistic model. In real situation those random variation is colored noise random process. Modified F-P-K equation is proposed to get the response of the random parametric system using some correction factor. Proposed technique is employed to obtain the colored noise parametric system response and confirmed via Monte-Carlo Simulation.

  • We develop parametric bootstrap model selection criteria in an example to fit a random sample to either a general normal distribution or a normal distribution with prespecified mean. We apply the bootstrap methods in two ways; one considers the direct substitution of estimated parameter for the unknown parameter, and the other focuses on the bias correction. These bootstrap model selection criteria are compared with AIC. We illustrate that all the selection rules reduce to the one sample t-test, where the cutoff points converge to some certain points as the sample size increases.

  • A real-tme nonlinear parameter tomography is pumping wave method. This tomorgraphy has a merit which requires no 180$^{\circ}$ projection datum, while the ray-bending effect is remrkably remained on the reconstructed image. In this paper we intend to compensate this ray-bending effect using the perturbation method. Impulsive pumping wave makes derived compensative term simple form, nad the compensative image is easily obtained. We perform computer simulation to confirm the improvement of corrected imate.

  • Atmospheric correction of satellite measurements is a major step to estimate accurate surface reflectance of solar spectrum channels. In this study, Simplified Method for the Atmospheric Correction (SMAC) radiative transfer model used to retrieve surface reflectance from MODIS (MODerate resolution Imaging Spectrometer) top of atmosphere (TOA) reflectance. It is fast and simple atmospheric correction method, so it uses for work site operation in various satellite. This study attempts a test of accuracy of SMAC through a sensitivity test to detected error sources and to improve accuracy of surface reflectance using SMAC. The results of SMAC as compared with MODIS surface reflectance (MOD09) was represented that low accuracy ($R^2\;=\;0.6196$, Root Means Square Error (RMSE) = 0.00031, bias = - 0.0859). Thus sensitivity analysis of input parameters and coefficients was conducted to searching error sources. Among the input parameters, Aerosol Optical Depth (AOD) is the most influence input parameter. In order to modify AOD term in SMAC code, Stepwise multiple regression was performed with testing and remove variable in three stages with independent variables of AOD at 550nm, solar zenith angle, viewing zenith angle. Surface reflectance estimation by using Newly proposed AOD term in the study showed that improve accuracy ($R^2\;=\;0.827$, RMSE = 0.00672, bias = - 0.000762).
