A research on thermal analysis method is conducted for the characterization of heat generation during operation of Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor(IPMSM) for Light Railway Transits(LRT) in this paper. Efficient cooling of the heat generated in the IPMSM is important because the excessive heat generated from the winding, core and permanent magnet makes it harder for a long time continuous operation of IPMSM. Therefore, in order to analyze the heat generation characteristics of the 110kW-class IPMSM as advanced research for application the IPMSM to the cooling device, the heat transfer coefficients for each component of the 110 kW-class IPMSM were derived and the thermal equivalent network was configured to perform the thermal analysis in this study. Finally, the 110kW-class IPMSM prototype is made and a comparative verification between the test data and the thermal analysis results through its various performance tests are carried out.
Ground source heat pumps(GSHPs) are among the most efficient and comfortable heating and cooling technologies currently available, because they use the earth's natural heat to provide heating, cooling, and often, water heating. And Building Integrated Geothermal System(BIGS) is one of GSHPs which install ground heat exchanger(GHE) in energy pile without borehole to save the investment cost. Therefore, the experiment is to evaluate the heating performance of BIGS in Korea. The experimental results indicate that the average heat pump COP and overall system's COP values are approximately 4.4 and 3.0 in one week. This study shows that the BIGS could be used for heating in Korea.

To fulfill the demands concerning energy efficiency for zero energy buildings, various technologies of architects and engineers are required. This study aims to estimate the thermal performance of heat source equipment in which part load characteristics are considered in an office building. Overestimation of heat source equipment was reviewed through literature survey, and heating and cooling loads depending on the capacity and division of the equipment were analyzed through a simulation program (DOE-2.1E). The conclusions gained from this study are as follows; 1) The more the division of equipment, the less the heating and cooling energy consumption. 2) When a large item of equipment is divided into two small items of equipment, the optimum application rate showed as 5:5 for chiller, and 7:3 for boiler, respectively.
PLS(Pohang Light Source) is 2.5 Gev synchrotron radiation source in Pohang, Korea, which is under operation since 1995. The hardware and software of the old BPM(Beam Position Monitor) data acquisition system for the PLS storage ring was completely upgraded to increase its performance and stability. The new BPM data acquisition system is based on VME-based EPICS (Experimental Physics and Instrument Control System) IOC system. We used 16-bit resolution analog-to-digital conversion board to digitize analog BPM signals. We developed a data average software to average raw BPM data using reflective memory board. We also developed device drivers for VME I/O boards used, IOC database for PV's(Process Variables). The new BPM data acquisition system is currently running for routine operation with good performance and stability. In this paper, we present the hardware and software of the new BPM data acquisition system DTL water skid cooling system and Resonant Control Cooling.

The heat transfer performance of a multi-heat-source fluidized bed heat exchanger was analyzed. The fluidized bed heat exchanger examined in this study can simultaneously recover the waste heat from gas, water vapor, and hot water. The effects of waste water flow rate, gas flow rate, and cooling water flow rate were examined to find their experimental correlations with the heat transfer coefficient. A computer program using the correlations was developed in this study to predict the thermal performance of the fluidized bed heat exchanger. The calculated heat transfer rates of gas, water vapor, waste water, and cooling water were compared with the measured values. It was found that the error of the calculated values was less than 12%.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the propriety of TMA clathrate as a cold storage medium. Particularly, this is to examine the extent of subcooling improvement when the additives is added to the TMA clathrate, because water used for cold storage ma terial has low phase change temperature and subcooling. This study has been analyzed and compared pure water with TMA 30 wt% clathrate how phase change temperature, subcooling and specific heat in the various concentrations are changed. This results prove low phase change temperature and subcooling control effect when the ethanol is added to the TMA 30 wt% clathrate than the TMA 30 wt% clathrate. In addition, it results low specific heat when there is added to the TMA 30 wt% clathrate over 0.5 wt% ethanol in the cold heat source temperature under $-7^{\circ}C$. The other side, it results high specific heat when the ethanol is added in it at the cold heat source temperature under $-5^{\circ}C$. Therefore, it is found that the additive must be controlled by available solution limit and study for new additive must be lasted to know its effect.
Because of insufficiency of energy resources and pollution of environment, it is necessary to develop alternative energy sources. Nuclear fission energy is used widely for source of electric Power but being restricted due to radioactivity problem. Nuclear fission is highlighted as the new generation of nuclear energy and researched worldwide because of low risk of radiation effect. The representatives of fusion research is China's EAST, KSTAR of Korea and ITER of world. Korea Superconducting Tokamak Advanced Research(KSTAR) project is on progress for the completion in August, 2007. In this study, the research of utility system for KSTAR be carried out. The utility system of KSTAR is consist of water cooling & heating system, $N_2$ gas system, DI water system, service water system and instrument air & auto control system. The progress of KSTAR utility system is under commissioning state after construction completion. The optimal operation scenario will be verified during commissioning and adopted to the KSTAR operation.

A computer simulation was performed to investigate the heat source distribution and temperature distribution of a laser having multiple characteristics. To simulate the actual size of a welding specimen, the temperature distributions at 0 s, 1 s, and 2 s were analyzed by increasing the domain size to 50 mm in length and 25 mm in width in a material of the same thickness. As indicated by the results, because of the characteristics of metals with high thermal conductivity, the temperature at the welding center line and the temperature distribution at the offset position were not significant. When the core part was cooled by irradiating with a laser, it cooled at a rate of up to 500 ℃/s. In contrast, when the laser was irradiated to the ring part, the cooling proceeded at a rate of over 1800 ℃/s. Comparing the relative numerical values rather than the absolute values, it was found that the cooling rate was approximately 3.6 times faster when the laser was irradiated through the ring than when the laser was irradiated through the core. As a result of irradiating with the same heat source (at 100 W) into the core, ring, and ring + core, it was confirmed that the highest temperature was irradiated to the ring part and the lowest temperature was irradiated to the core part.

The spent nuclear fuel is burned during the planned cycle in the plant and then generates elements such as actinide series, fission products, and plutonium with a long half-life. An 'interim storage' step is needed to manage the high radioactivity and heat emitted by nuclides until permanent-disposal. In the case of Korea, there is no space to dispose of high-level radioactive waste after use, so there is a need for a period of time using interim storage. Therefore, the intensity of neutrons and gamma-ray must be determined to ensure the integrity of spent nuclear fuel during interim storage. In particular, the most important thing in spent nuclear fuel is burnup evaluation, estimation of the source term of neutrons and gamma-ray is regarded as a reference measurement of the burnup evaluation. In this study, an analysis of spent nuclear fuel was conducted by setting up a virtual fuel burnup case based on CE16×16 fuel to check the total amount and spectrum of neutron, gamma radiation produced. The correlation between BU (burnup), IE (enrichment), and CT (cooling time) will be identified through spent nuclear fuel burnup calculation. In addition, the composition of nuclide inventory, actinide and fission products can be identified.
