  • DICOM(Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine) imaging plays a significant role in the diagnosis and treatment of the human body, and design modeling is a technology of planning shapes in three dimensions according to the purpose. In this study, we converge these two technologies to observe the relationships of the cross-section, volume, and surface area to the morphological changes of the external ear canal. The experiment applied medical imaging technologies to acquire sections of the human body to create and divide centerlines using 3D shapes extracted from 19 external ear canals by applying stereolithography and 3-matic program. The results showed that the cross-sectional structure of the external ear canal had various shapes, such as oval (38.5%), semicircular (28.2%), mixed (17.9%), square (10.2%), and wrinkled (5.1%). In addition, the cross-sectional area of each phase increased as the length of the external ear canal increased, and the volume and surface area decreased towards the direction of the eardrum. However, the surface area reduction rate was relatively low. This indicates that the structure becomes irregular towards the direction of the eardrum.

  • Stereolithography is the best known as rapid prototyping system. It uses the STL format data which is generated from CAD system. In this study, One of the main function of this developed CAM system deals with shape modification which divide a shape into two parts or more. The cross section of a STL part by a z-level is composed with nested or single polygonal closed loop. In order to make RP product, closed loops must fill with triangular facets from SSET and recover sliced triangular facets which is located normal direction to the cross sectional plane. The system is development by using Visuall C++ compiler in the environment of pentium PC. Operating system is Windows NT workstaion from Micro-Soft.

  • An experimental investigation was performed to study the characteristics of laminar water flow in a horizontal circular tube by using liquid crystal. A simultaneous measurement technique has been employed to measure the temperature field in a two-dimensional cross section of fluid flow. This study found the temperature distribution for Re =900~1,500 along longitudinal sections and the results appear to be physically reasonable. To determine some characteristics of the laminar flow, 2D PIV technique is employed for temperature measurement and liquid crystal is used for heat transfer experiments in water. The experimental rig was manufactured from an acryle tube. The test tube diameter of 25mm, and a length of 1200mm. The used algorithm is the gray level cross-correlation method by using Kimura et al. in 1986.

  • Tunneling in rocks having the time-dependent behavior, causes some difficulties like tunnel convergence and, as a result, pressure on concrete lining; and so instability on this structure. In this paper the time-dependent behaviour of squeezing phenomenon in a large cross section tunnel was investigated as a case study: Alborz tunnel. Then, time-dependent behaviour of Alborz tunnel was evaluated using FLAC2D based on the finite difference numerical method. A Burger-creep viscoelastic model was used in numerical analysis. Using numerical analysis, the long-time effect of squeezing on lining stability was simulated. This study is done for primary lining (for 2 years) and permanent lining (for 100 years), under squeezing situations. The response of lining is discussed base on Thrust Force-Bending Moment and Thrust Force-Shear Force diagrams analysing. The results determined the importance of consideration of time-dependent behaviour of tunnel that structural forces in concrete lining will grow in consider with time pass and after 70 years can cause instability in creepy rock masses section of tunnel. To show the importance of time-dependent behavior consideration of rocks, elastic and Mohr-Coulomb models are evaluated at the end.

  • The links operating interrupted flow are intend to yield the traffic between the out flow and inflow part effect zone of street section, we build the delay model using the time gap between under construction and not. We review the applicability of interrupted flow, and thus we can put this data to practical use as the basis data to compute the inducement charge for traffic delay. Also building about traffic effect zone of interrupted flow wouldn't produce at the section beside occupying roads and construction cross section, thus we must review the plan to minimize traffic delay by the construction occupying road. In future there must be advanced the incomplete in this study, and groping for the various alternatives to minimize the traffic delay by the road occupying construction, with developing the various sets of detailed analyzing models, that is analysis on the street strength, crossroads geometrical forms of crossroads, public traffics, pedestrians, occupying types.

  • In this study, hydrophilic coating characteristics of PVDF [poly(vinylidene fluoride)] hollow fiber membranes with flower type cross-section prepared by thermally induced phase separation were studied. The hollow fiber used in this study was provided from PureEnvitech Co. Ltd., and the hydrophilic coating experiment was performed with different concentration and number of coating of PEBAX 1657, 2533 and 3533 block copolymer solution using a dip coating method. The hydrophilic coated hollow fiber membrane was characterized to scanning microscope and contact angle measurements to determine the degree of hydrophilization. As a result of SEM characterization, it was confirmed that the thickness of the coating layer increased as the coating concentration increased and the number of coatings increased. Contact angle of surface of hollow fibers decreased as the concentration of the coating solution increased and the number of coatings increased. Gas permeance of oxygen gas was measured for the application of the hydrophilized hollow fiber to Membrane Areated Biofilm Reactor. As a result of gas permeation test, it was confirmed that gas permeance decreased with increasing coating concentration and number of coatings, and the more hydrophilized hollow fiber coated with PEBAX 1657 showed lower gas permeance than those coated with PEBAX 2533 and 3533.

  • Advancements in remote medical technologies and smart devices have led to expectations of contactless rehabilitation. Conventionally, rehabilitation requires clinicians to perform routine muscle function assessments with patients. However, assessment results are difficult to cross-reference owing to the lack of a gold standard. Thus, the application of remote smart rehabilitation systems is significantly hindered. This study analyzes the factors affecting the real-time evaluation of muscle function based on biometric sensor data so that we can provide a basis for a remote system. We acquired real clinical stroke patient data to identify the meaningful features associated with normal and abnormal musculature. We provide a system based on these emerging features that assesses muscle functionality in real time via streamed biometric signal data. A system view based on the amount of data, data processing speed, and feature proportions is provided to support the production of a rudimentary remote smart rehabilitation system.

  • To improve the efficiency of MC criticality calculation, an acceleration method of fission source convergence which gives an improved initial fission source is proposed. In this method, the MC global homogenization is carried out to obtain the macroscopic cross section of each material mesh, and then the nonlinear iterative solution of the SP3 equations is used to determine the fission source distribution. The calculated fission source is very close to the real fission source, which describes its space and energy distribution. This method is an automatic computation process and is tested by the C5G7 benchmark, the results show that this acceleration method is helpful to reduce the inactive cycles and overall running time.

  • This paper proposes a method to estimate directly the incoherent scattered intensity and radar cross section (RCS) from the effective permittivity of a random media. The proposed method is derived from the original concept of incoherent scattering. The incoherent scattered field is expressed as a simple formula. Therefore, to reduce computation time, the proposed method can estimate the incoherent scattered intensity and RCS of a random media. To verify the potential of the proposed method for the desired applications, we conducted a Monte-Carlo analysis using the method of moments; we characterized the accuracy of the proposed method using the normalized mean square error (NMSE). In addition, several medium parameters, such as the density of scatterers and analysis volume, were studied to understand their effect on the scattering characteristics of a random media. The results of the Monte-Carlo analysis show good agreement with those of the proposed method, and the NMSE values of the proposed method and Monte-Carlo analysis are relatively small at less than 0.05.
