  • The soundscape is a novel attempt to offer comfortable sound environments at the urban public spaces by adding pleasant sounds and removing unagreeable ones. Most important factors to be considered therein are to determine what kind of sounds to offer and how to adjust them to the changing circumstances. But, installing, maintaining and adjusting the soundscape system directly in the field will ensue numerous problems as well as high costs. Thus, it is essential to devise a test method to analyse and verify the outcome before the actual installation in the field takes place. This study aims at devising the instrument system that enables to control. with a great ease, numerous variables. reproduce most agreeable sound sources, and can verify the effects on the virtual simulatory settings, which is named as Virtual Acoustic Field Simulation System (VAFSS).

  • Dynamic contact of a cantilever beam with Sap at the end is discussed. The gap in a structure induces dynamic contact, and the contact problem is always accompanied by inequality constraints which mean that the solution of the structure with contact condition should satisfy variational inequality. Inequality, but, can be reduced to equality condition considering convex penalty function. In this paper, formulation of a beam with contact is derived using quasi convex penalty function. General coordinate solution which is needed to increase computational efficiency is applied. Nonlinear behavior of a beam with rigid and elastic contact condition was discussed.

  • A Helmholtz resonator is one of noise control elements widely used in many practical applications. The resonator has very high absorption at resonance frequency but the frequency bandwidth is very small. Therefore many kinds of additional resistive screens have been applied to the resonator's neck in order to increase the bandwidth. This paper discusses the absorptive characteristics of a Helmholtz resonator damped by a flexible porous screen in form of wire mesh. First, various experimental results are introduced and studied. Secondly, the effect of the resistive screen is theoretically predicted. It is shown that the distance between the screen and aperture affects on the resonance frequency as well as the absorption of the system.

  • This paper proposes a control system for a Galvano meter which can be used in angle multiplexing for a holographic data storage. Due to the small angle multiplexing selectivity and the exposure/delay time of a CCD camera, the system needs to be controlled to satisfy the performance specification. First, the mathematical model is derived by combining the electrical and mechanical dynamic equations. Then, the obtained model was tuned by the experiments. Finally, a PID controller using DSP was designed and was applied the holographic system. From this approach, we successfully meet the performance specification.

  • Detection of gas leak from a tube is a very important issue in the quality control of machines such as the heat exchanger of an air-conditioner, because leakage of operating gas directly reduces the performance of machines. The acoustic emission (AE) method is a common way to detect leak of gas, however its application under the environment of mechanical vibration is restricted since most AE detectors are very sensitive to external vibration noise. In order to overcome this problem, we propose a method based on the mode analysis of the Lamb wave. In this method, the dominant Lamb mode and its frequency are found first, and then a proper band-pass filter is used to retain only this frequency component. In this way, we could improve the SNR (signal-to-noise ratio) of AE signal generated by gas leak from the tube even under vibratory environment.

  • Nonlinear dynamics of active piezolaminated plates are investigated with respect to the thermopiezoelastic behaviors. For largely deformed structures with small strain, the incremental total Lagrangian formulation is presented based on the virtual work principles. A multi field layer wise finite shell element is proposed for assuring high accuracy and non-linearity of displacement, electric and thermal fields. For dynamic consideration of thermopiezoelastic snap through phenomena, the implicit Newmark's scheme with the Newton-Raphson iteration is implemented for the transient response of various piezolaminated models with symmetric or eccentric active layers. The bifurcate thermal buckling of symmetric structural models is first investigated and the characteristics of piezoelectric active responses are studied for finding snap through piezoelectric potentials and the load path tracking map. The thermoelastic stable and unstable postbuckling, thermopiezoelastic snap through phenomena with several attractors are proved using the nonlinear time responses for various initial conditions and damping loss factors. Present results show that thermopiezoelastic snap through phenomena can result in the difficulty of buckling and postbuckling control of intelligent structures.

  • The turbocharger for a vehicle is consisting of a centrifugal compressor and turbine. These compressor and turbine are vibrating and emitting noises through the T/C body, exhaust system (Catalyst, Bellows, Pipe, etc) and Intake system (Hoses, Intercooler pipes, Intercooler) as rotating. A turbocharger cold test bench is constructed to reduce these noises, especially for the purpose of realizing transient operating environment and oil temperature control to simulate the vehicle operating characteristics with intake system and exhaust system. This research laid the groundwork to develop a lower noise level T/C through understanding the mechanism of the noise source of T/C.

  • In order to reduce the level of recoil force, new recoil technology must be employed. The present study discusses a soft-recoil mechanism that can reduce dramatically the recoil force. The dynamics of the soft-recoil system with hydraulic dampers are described and simulated. The results of the simulation show that FOOB system can reduce the recoil force and the recoil stroke compared to conventional systems. However, the FOOB system is not able to perform well when the fault modes happen. Hence, this study uses the MR damper to achieving FOOB under fault modes.

  • In this paper we deal with a design of the integral sliding mode controller to suppress the disturbance force acting on the suspension system of the magnetically levitated train system. One of the important factors that cause the disturbance force acting on the suspension system comes from the low propulsion speed of linear induction motor. In this paper integral sliding mode controller is employed to reject the disturbance force produced by the propulsion system of the linear induction motor. In order to show the effectiveness of the designed controller a dynamic simulation is utilized and the sliding mode controller without integral compensator is compared with the proposed integral sliding mode controller to suppress the disturbance force.
