  • This paper concentrates on the position control of a pneumatic cylinder under parameter variation. A closed-loop control is proposed to design the different controllers(P, PI, PID, PD controller) in order to choose the best con-troller based on the fast and accurate control of the system. It is shown that the control algorithm, is robust and effective in attaining the fast and accurate position control of system under time-dependent parameter variation. Experimental results showed that PD controller law is effective to obtain the fast response and to increase that sta-blity of the system The method is a useful control algorithm which always automatically adjusts the position con-trol in accordance with the error using carrier wave of triangle type regardless of changes on the operating condi-tion and physical differences between components.

  • Generally, the main difficulty in the composition of tank-level control system may be in the point that plant parameters are severely varied according to the change of operating point. In order to cope with this difficulty, in this paper, an adaptive control is employed using model-following technique based on the optimal control law. Through the simulations and experiments the following results were observed. 1) The steady-state error was not found under the parameter variations caused by the change of operating point. 2) In spite of the change of operating point, the corresponding gains which were stored in the computer were found to be automatically updated so that the controller could have the adaptive ability. And also, the control specifications in view of transient response were found to be satisfied.

  • This paper presents a predictive control with H$_{\infty}$ suboptimal performance which is robust to disturbances and has a guaranteed stability. In order to derive the control law conveniently, state-space based approach, where the state variable is involved explicitly in the controller design and implementation is allowed. So an input-output model is converted to an equivalent observable canonical state-space form. The suggested control guarantees the norm bounded system output values from disturbances. A systematic way using the LMI method is presented to obtain appropriate parameters for Quadratic stability condition and optimization problem.

  • As environmental vibration requirements on precision equipment become more stringent, use of pneumatic isolators has become more popular and their performance is subsequently required to be further improved. Performance of passive pneumatic isolators is related to various design parameters in a complicated manner and, hence, is very limited especially in low frequency range by chamber volume. In this study, transmissibility behavior of the pneumatic isolators depending on frequency and dynamic amplitude are presented. Then, an active control technique, time delay control, which is adequate for a low frequency nonlinear system, is applied. A procedure of applying the time delay control law to a pneumatic isolator is presented and it's effectiveness in the transmissibility performance is shown. Comparison between passive and active pneumatic isolators is made based on simulation.

  • Sliding mode control is a powerful control methodology for the control of uncertain systems. However, it and its variations have some disadvantages such as chattering and imprecise tracing performance. A novel scheme of the sliding mode control is presented for the accurate tracking control of the uncertain systems. The fuzzy logic-baced control law maintaining stability and consistent performance in the face of modeling imprecise is derived and simulation results showing its effectiveness are presented.

  • The sliding mode control law provides a robust solution for general control problems. Most real systems which use a portable hard disk drive have to overcome disturbances and model uncertainties for proper operation. The chattering effect caused from unexpected oscillation can make the system be unstable. Therefore, we propose a robust control algorithm for the nonlinear second order systems with model uncertainties and disturbances. The proposed algorithm is designed following a sliding mode and observer based control. Thus the proposed algorithm has more expanded bounded region of control. Simulation results show the robustness of the proposed controller.

  • This paper presents a design method of dynamic positioning control system(DPS) for floating Platform with rotatable and retractable thrusters using H$\infty$ servo control design method. The norm band of uncertainty is captured by multiplicative perturbation between nominal model and reduced order model. A controller robust to the uncertainty is designed applying H$\infty$ synthesis. The control law satisfying robust stability and nominal performance condition is determined through the mixed sensitivity approach. The control algorithm was evaluated on the basis of computer simulation for a proposed DPS design method and experiments was carried out with an image processing method for measurement of DPS position in a water tank The results of overall experiments show that proposed control method will be good to keep at a specified position. And they are compared with the experimental results by LQG synthesis and H$\infty$ optimal control design method.

  • This paper presents a trajectory tracking controller for rotorcraft UAVs to improve the tracking performances in the presence of various uncertainties. The proposed tracking method consists of a velocity guidance law based on the relative distance and L1 adaptive augmentation loop for tracking the velocity commands. In the proposed structure, the desired velocity generated by the guidance law is the reference value of the adaptive controller for accurate path tracking. In the guidance law, the desired acceleration is generated based on the relative distance and its derivatives, and then the velocity command of the inner control loop is calculated by integrating the accelerations. $L_1$ augmentation loop supplements the linear controller to guarantee the flight performances such as a tracking accuracy in the presence of the uncertainties. The proposed controller was validated in actual flight tests to successfully demonstrate its capability using a quadrotor UAV.

  • This paper presents the solution to model matching of switched asynchronous sequential machines by corrective control. We propose a model of switched asynchronous sequential machines, in which the system can have different dynamics of asynchronous machines governed by a pre-determined sequence of switching. The control objective is to derive a corrective control law so that the stable state behavior of the closed-loop system can match that of a prescribed model. A new skeleton matrix is defined to represent the reachability of the switched asynchronous machine, and a novel control scheme is presented that interweaves the switching signal and the corrective control procedure. A design algorithm for the proposed controller is illustrated in a case study.

  • In this paper, a novel traffic flow control method based-on ramp metering and speed regulation using an adaptive sliding mode control (ASMC) method along with a deadzoned parameter adaptation law is proposed at a stochastic macroscopic level traffic environment, where the influence of the density and speed disturbances is accounted for in the traffic dynamic equations. The goal of this paper is to design a local traffic flow controller using both ramp metering and speed regulation based on ASMC, in order to achieve the desired density and speed for the maintenance of the maximum mainline throughput against disturbances in practice. The proposed method is advantageous in that it can improve the traffic flow performance compared to the traditional methods using only ramp metering, even in the presence of ramp storage limitation and disturbances. Moreover, a prior knowledge of disturbance magnitude is not required in the process of designing the controller unlike the conventional sliding mode controller. A stability analysis is presented to show that the traffic system under the proposed traffic flow control method is guaranteed to be uniformly bounded and its ultimate bound can be adjusted to be sufficiently small in terms of deadzone. The validity of the proposed method is demonstrated under different traffic situations (i.e., different initial traffic status), in the sense that the proposed control method is capable of stabilizing traffic flow better than the previously well-known Asservissement Lineaire d'Entree Autoroutiere (ALINEA) strategy and also feedback linearization control (FLC) method.
