Characterization of Sea Salt in PM10 at Inland and Seashore in Busan, Korea

  • In an effort to characterize temporal and spatial variability of $PM_{10}$ and to quantitatively estimate contribution of sea salt aerosol to $PM_{10}$ mass in Busan area, twenty four-hour averaged concentration of $PM_{10}$ were measured in two distinct areas, Gwaebeopdong(inland) and Dongsamdong(seashore), Busan for summer and fall, 2007. It was found that sea salt accounted for 2.9% and 9.5% of $PM_{10}$ mass in Gwaebeopdong and Dongsamdong, respectively for the study period, indicating that contribution of sea salt to $PM_{10}$ mass and total ion concentration in seashore area were consistently higher by a factor of three compared to inland area. Temporal analysis suggested that sea salt contributions to $PM_{10}$ in Dongsamdong were higher in summer due to the southerly sea breeze while there was no significant fluctuation of sea salt contribution for the summer and fall months in Gwaebeopdong. Sea salt enrichment factors($EF_{sea}$) of $K^+$ $Ca^{2+}$ and ${SO_4}^{2-}$ (>10) indicated major contributions from anthropogenic sources and EFs of $Mg^{2+}$ and $Cl^-$ exhibited strong association with oceanic origins for both areas.

Contribution of Food Behavior an Psychological Factor to Perceived Tiredness in Adolescens (청소년의 식행동과 심리적 요인이 피곤 자각도에 미치는 영향)

  • The relationship among food behavior, psychological factor(life strees) and perceive tiredness was investigated in 514 adolescents. Tiredness was measured in four cases: in lessons, before school, in the early evening and at weekends. Adolescents felt most tired in lessons and before school, and leat at weekends. Irregularity of meal times and skipping breakfast were positively correlated with tiredness in lessons and befor school. Consumption of some foods was related to perceived tiredness. High sugar or fat containing ice-cream, hamburger of fizzy drinks in boys, and crisps and cookies in girls were positively associated with tiredness. Whereas beans and mushrooms were negatively associated with tiredness in girls. Life stress(by scholastic problem and personal problem) of adolescents was positively related to tiredness. The contribution of stress to tiredness was much greater than of food behavior according to multiple linear regression .There was no relationship between nutrients intake and tiredness in lessons and before school which were more strongly influenced by stress, whereas the relationship was found at weekend without influences of stress. The more tired, the lower NARs(nutrient adequacy ratio) of energy, phosphorus, vitamin A, vitamin B$_2$, and niacin were. In conclusion, some eating behavior and psychological factor can cause tiredness in adolescents, but tiredness in school and before school had more of a psychological cause than at weekend. Contribution of Journals to Academic Disciplines

  • This research uses a new approach to analyze the extent of influence journal papers have on the progress of varied research fields by estimation of subject-based influence on research other than impact factor that relies on citation index. It is initiated with the hypothesis that earlier established citation relations between journal and citing paper, which reveals the research field that contains the highest citation index and hence has received the greatest contribution from a particular journal, would have inconsistent contribution to the research field over the year of journal publication. The target research is primarily 128 journal papers and 4,123 citing papers from Information Systems Research published in the years 2001, 2004, 2007, and 2010. The characteristics of citation history and hallmarks of research field of citing papers were studied and analysis on significant distinction between citing fields based on the year of publication was performed. The analysis results show the order of citation rate to be highest from Computer Science (2,221 cases), Business & Economics (2,191 cases), and Information Science & Library Science (1,901 cases). The citation history of the journal, nonetheless, indicates increase in citation during 2-3 years after the earliest publication till it achieves constant citation. The statistical analysis shows significant variation in citing fields in accordance with the publication year; especially in 2010, journal contribution has increased in the fields of Business & Economics, Operations Research & Management Science, and Health Care Sciences & Services but, however, is reduced in Education & Educational Research and Social Sciences - Other Topics.

Contribution of Components of ZrF4-Based Glasses to IR Edge Absorption (ZrF4-유리의 적외선선단 광흡수에 미치는 유리성분의 영향)

  • The IR edge absorption of the important pure components of ZrF4-based glasses, including two previously uncharacterized components(ZrF4 and AlF3), has been measured. Values of the glass IR edge absorption coefficients have been calculated from these results, assuming additivity, and are compared with experimental glass absorption coefficients. The calculated ${\alpha}$ values are about a factor of two lower than the experimental values for ZrF4-based glasses, and the ZrF4 makes the largest contribution to the calculated ${\alpha}$ value.

  • This paper describes the optimization of PGS(Patterned Ground Shield) of 5.5 turns rectangular spiral inductor using Taguchi's method. PGS is decrease method of parasite component by silicon substrate among dielectric loss reduction method. By using the taguchi's method, each parameter is fixed upon that PGS high poison(A), slot spacing(B), strip width(C) and overlap turn number(D) of PGS design parameter. Then we verified that percentage contribution and design sensitivity analysis of each parameter and level by signal to noise ratio of larger-the-better type. We consider percentage contribution and design sensitivity of each parameter and level, and then verify that model of optimization for PGS is lower inductance decreasing ratio and higher Q-factor increasing ratio by EM simulation.

Do Quality-Focused Retailer Brand Types Contribute to Building Store Loyalty in Korea?

  • Purpose - The research aim is to shed empirical light on whether quality-focused retailer brands such as Premium brand of Tesco Korea, Prime of Lotte Mart, and Best of E-Mart in the grocery market, make a contribution to developing store loyalty in the Korean market particularly. Research design, data, methodology - After developing sixconstructs, such as higher quality, stock availability, price levels, national brands, retailer brand attitudes, and store loyalty, the authors adopted exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, chi-square test and structural equation modelling as a research technique. Results - It was found that higher quality strongly influences the retailer brand attitude formation, and that retailer brand customers were sensitive to price levels. Buyers are, nevertheless, relatively less aware of price levels, when purchasing quality-oriented retailer brand types. Conclusions - The research implied that quality-oriented retailer brand types make a significant contribution to retailer brands attitude formation, and further, building store loyalty.

  • The objectives of this study were to identify the work values of the college students, and to verify the relationship between demographic variables and the work value inventory. Data were collected from college students majoring clothing and textiles(N=307). Convenient sampling was performed. The work value inventory used in this study was modified on the one designed by Meitus. The data were analyzed by factor analysis, t-test and F-test. The findings of this study were as follows : First, as a result of factor analysis, dimensions of work value consists of 8 factors, including income, achievement, status, social contribution, stability, responsibility, capability and vocational contribution. Second, job experience, grade and parent's educational background and occupation were the major variables determining students' work values.

Effect of the Phase Factor of the Reflection Amplitude on the Interlayer Exchange Coupling in (001) Co/Cu/Co Multilayers

  • The reflection-amplitude approximation is used to calculate the interlayer exchange coupling in (001) Co/Cu/Co multilayers. The dependence of the phase factor of the reflection amplitude on the energy and wave vector is included. The contribution of each period is calculated and the results are compared with those from asymptotic behavior. It is shown that the energy and wave-vector dependence of the phase factor may affect the interlayer exchange coupling significantly.

Consumer perceptions on sustainable practices implemented in foodservice organizations in Korea

  • BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Sustainable practices in foodservice organizations including commercial and noncommercial ones are critical to ensure the protection of the environment for the future. With the rapid growth of the foodservice industry, wiser usage of input sources such as food, utilities, and single use packaging should be reconsidered for future generations. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the customer's perceptions on sustainable practices and to identify the relationship among sustainable practices, social contribution and purchase intention. SUBJECTS/METHODS: The study was conducted using content analyses by reviewing articles on sustainable food service practices published domestically and abroad. Thereafter, data were collected with a face-to-face survey using a questionnaire and analyzed with factor analyses and multiple regressions. RESULTS: Sustainable practices classified with factor analysis consisted of 6 dimensions of green food material procurement, sustainable food preparation, green packaging, preservation of energy, waste management, and public relations on green activity, with a total of 25 green activities in foodservice operations. Consumers were not very familiar with the green activities implemented in the foodservice unit, with the lowest awareness of "green food material procurement (2.46 out of 5 points)", and the highest awareness of "green packaging (3.74)" and "waste management (3.28). The factors influencing the perception of social contribution by foodservice organizations among 6 sustainable practice dimensions were found to be public relations on green activity (${\beta}=0.154$), waste management (${\beta}=0.204$) and sustainable food preparation (${\beta}=0.183$). Green packaging (${\beta}=0.107$) and the social contribution of the foodservice organization (${\beta}=0.761$) had strong relationships with the image of the organization. The purchase intentions of customers was affected only by the foodservice image (${\beta}=0.775$). CONCLUSIONS: The results of this study suggest that sustainable practices by foodservice organization present a good image to customers and increase the awareness of valuable contributions that benefit the customer as well as the community.
