During the period of 1962 through 1981, a total of 11. 7 million cummulative acceptors have received contraceptive services under the national family planning program. The number of annual acceptors have steadly increased from 151, 200 in 1963 to 842, 200 in 1975, and since then it has maintained the range of 600, 000 to 800, 000 acceptors per year. From the beginning of the program, the IUD had been the principal method of contraception provided by the government program until 1976, at which time the government made female sterilization services available thorough the introduction of the laparoscopy method. The popularity of female sterilization has increased very rapidly during the last few years. Out of 614, 200 program acceptors in 1981, the proportion of female sterilization and IUD acceptors were virtually the same(26.8% and 27.2% respectively). Considering various anticipated problems such as a large proportion of contraceptive users for the fertility termination and the high discontinuation rates of IUD and other traditional method, the government has emphasized the distribution of female sterilization and deemphasized condom and pill contraceptives since 1978. However, the recent service statistics has revealed that the acceptance rate of female sterilization has steadly declined since 1979. Thus, the purpose of this analysis is to review the current government policy on contraceptive distribution with emphasis of female sterilization by estimating the prospect of sterilization acceptablilty. According to the Fifth Five-Year Plan for Family Planning Program(1982-1986) the annual average target of sterilization was set up to secure 230, 000 acceptors by the government sector during the period. If the sterilization target is to be met as planned, about 80 percent of exposed women aged 30-44 will be remained as sterilized women in 1985. This means the the high acceptance rate of sterilization shown in the past years can not be expected, unless the acceptors' age of sterilization is drastically lowered below 30 years. Accordingly, the current policy on contraceptive distribution with emphasis on sterilization should be gradually changed to encourage target population to use contraceptives for birth spacing by increasing access to such contraceptives as IUDs, pills, and condoms, and to improve continuation rates through better program management system including target setting, acceptors' follow-up, supervision, and evaluation system.
Despite the intensive family Planning program of the government, which has reduced the :average population growth to 2.0 percent in 1970, the continuing high fertility rates and poor family planning services in urban slum areas has been continually pointed out by various evaluation seminars. Thus, it was felt that a study of the current status of family planning in an urban slum population was needed. The aims of the study were to: (1) delineate the general characteristics of the urban slum population (2) discover the knowledge, attitudes, and practice of family planing. (3) determine what was felt to be the ideal number of children. (4) determine the status of induced abortion. A random stratified sample of 200 women was selected from a population of 3, 118 married women, 20-49 years of age, living in the Yonsei Community Health Project area and registered at the Yonhee Community Health Service Institute. The respondents were interviewed by the investigates, using a pretested questionary, from the period of October 1 to October 30, 1972. The findings of the Study were as follows: 1. Afore than half of the respondents were in the high fertility age group (25-34): of lower educational level (under primary School) : from rural areas: and with unstable sources of income. 2. The average respondent had 3.6 living children. 3. Most of the respondents had knowledge of contraceptive methods such as the Loop(78, 5%) and Oral pill (87.0%). 4. Seventy seven percent of the respondents recognized the Health Center as an available source for family planning. 5. About seventy percent of the respondents approved of family planning. 6. Eighty four point five percent of all the respondents answered that using contraceptives is harmful to maternal health. 7. Currently, 21.0 percent of the respondents were using contraceptives, while 40.0 percent of the respondents were current users or had used contraceptives. 5. Of the respondents who had ever stopped using contraceptives, 78.0 percent gave side effects as the reason they discontinued the method. 9. The average number of ideal children reported by the respondents was 3.5. 10. If they had only 2 daughters, 85.5 Percent of the respondents thought they must have more children. 11. Sixty nine point five percent of the respondents approved of induced abortion for unwanted pregnancies, while 34.5 percent of the respondents had experienced induced abortion for unwanted pregnancies. The mean number of induced abortion for unwanted pregnancies was 0.7. 12. The result of this study showed that such urban slum population would be one of the most important target of the family planning services, therefore further social-psychological researches with technical development on this area are recommended.
This study sought to find out the level of perception of the effect on women's physical, mental, socio-culture health of the artificial abortion. The research design was a descriptive correlational study and selected by convenient sampling. The subjects were 510 female and male adults who live in Seoul, Korea. Data were collected from 20th September, 1999 to 28th October, 1999. The data were analyzed through the SPSS program by use of frequency, percentage, t-test, ANOVA and Scheffe test as a post hoc contrast, $x^2$-test, Pearson correlation coefficient and stepwise multiple regression. The results of the study are as follows. 1. The subject who experienced artificial abortion was 24.3% and 468% of these had experienced repeated artificial abortion. 54.4% was using the contraceptives and there was a significant difference in the contraceptives between that women wish to use and that women are really using. 2. For the opinion on the artificial abortion, 77.3% of respondents was pro-abortionists and the most acceptable reasons of pro-choice were" In case of unmarried" and "For the women's health". 3. On the whole, the subjects perceived that artificial abortion had a negative effect on the women's health, especially, on the women's mental health. Among the items, 'guilty feeling about the baby' was the highest. 4. The related factors to the level of perception of the effect on women's health of the artificial abortion were in sex, age, occupational status, marital status, educational level, the number of children, abortion history, contraceptives women use, the frequency of the consideration on the problem of artificial abortion and the position toward abortion such as pro or anti. The main influencing factors on the level o0f perception were artificial abortion history, occupational status and the frequency of the consideration on the problem of artificial abortion. Theses factors explained 35% of total variance of the level of perception 5. The variables related to the experience of artificial abortion were age, occupational status, marital status, religion, educational level, the number of children and whether women practice contraceptives or not.
These days Women have repented their past when they were inactive in attaining their own rights and they've payed attentions in gaining their fundamental rights, especially health rights. The spread of contraception use is important to fulfill women's health right. There are a lot of meanings in the contraception use. It makes women can control their reproductive activities such as pregnancy, delivery, and raising children etc. It gives each woman has autonomy of her life. The review reveals high contraceptive rate and high experienced artificial abortion rate in Korea. It means Korean married couples use contraception inefficiently. From 1970's to 1980's, most of the researches in contraceptions were descriptive and survey studies. Since 1990's, the studies have researched in the feministic perspectives. In order to understand experiences of contraceptive behaviors, qualitative researches through indepth interview did. But the number of researches were limited. The relating factors to contraceptive behavior are knowledge, communication between couples, efficiency of contraceptives, self efficacy, attitudes toward contraception, national policy, mass media, public opinion, age, parity, abortion history, ever-used contraceptive method and educational level. Theses factors affect contraception directly and indirectly. Therefore. researches about contraceptives in the future must focus on development of contraceptive behavior assessment tools and further study should be comprehensive and multidementional.
Objectives: This study was peformed to identify the related factors on Vietnamese immigrant women's reproductive health problems. Survey Participants were 231 immigrant vietnamese woman who lived at six cities in Korea. Methods: The comprehensive PRECEDE model comprised of diagnosis and planning curricular targeted or immigrant women aged 15-49. Data collection was conducted by face-to-face interview survey. Results: 1. The influential variables of recognition of reproductive health problems from the logistic analysis were using contraceptives (p=0.002), relationships with partners (p=0.000), the need of family planning (p=0.007), social support (p=0.009). This means that they experienced reproductive health problems when they did not use contraceptives, did not need family planning, did not receive social support and had close relationships with their partners. Conclusion: The basic data were provided for prevention of reproductive health problems such as unwanted pregnancy and abortion, as well as improved understanding of the different views on pregnancy, birth culture and sexual and reproductive health between Korea and Vietnam.
Objectives: Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is highly associated with cervical cancer. So, the modification of the risk factors of HPV infection is essential for prevention of cervical cancer. This study was performed to evaluate the risk factors of HPV infection. Methods: HPV test of 12,337 study population conducted using Hybrid-Capture II assay(HC-II) and self-administered questionnaires were collected. The study population was people who visited hospital-based medical screening center from January to December 2007 and all were female employees or employees' partner. Results: In logistic regression analysis, smoking and alcohol drinking were significant factors, with odds ratios of 1.328 (95% CI 1.010~1.746) and 1.644 (95% CI 1.309~2.066), respectively. Nutritional supplements was also significant factor, which odds ratio was 1.161 (95% CI 1.004~1.343). Oral contraceptives was positive association with HPV infection (odds ratio 2.108; 95% CI 1.217~3.652), whereas condom was negative association (odds ratio 0.851; 95% CI 0.740~0.979). Conclusion: HPV Prevalence of 12,377 study population was 11.4%. Smoking, alcohol drinking, nutritional supplements and oral contraceptives were possible risk factors of HPV infection, and condom had possible preventive effect on HPV infection. Further prospective and comprehensive studies about HPV risk factors are required.

This paper examines to focus on General Strategy of e-logistics activity for SCM(Supply Chain Management) Build-up, especially the field service logistics integration. And this research analyzes the case study(Business of Strategy Group Unit) Survey involving effective logistics management that leads customer satisfaction, seeking to find out the key elements of competitive policy. Because problems arise from the differences between their goals and structures, which cause each side to feel vulnerable to opportunism or shirking of responsibilities by the other. The goal of a logistics system is to ensure that every family planning client always receives the contraceptives partner wants, and that they are in good condition and have not expired. In order to select, procure, and distribute the right quantities of the right contraceptives, managers of the logistics system must keep informed of the rates of use of each contraceptive and of the quantity of available supplies. As a result, We propose that a firm's e-logistics safe strategy is an important locus innovation and a crucial source of value creation for the firm its suppliers, partners, and customers.
Objective: This study attempts to gauge the necessity of contraceptive education for women defecting from North Korea (NKDWs). Methods: We conducted in-depth interviews with six NKDWs who had lived in the Republic of Korea (ROK) for more than three years, to understand the subjects' perceptions, experiences, and opinions regarding contraception. Thematic analyses were performed using qualitative data provided in the survey results. Results: Before their defections from North Korea, none of the NKDWs had received any sex education. Loop is the only contraceptive method available to married women in ROK. After defection, NKDWs were provided information about contraceptive options available in China, but they could not fully understand this information. Furthermore, the information they received was not accurate. Thus, NKDWs had a high need for contraceptive sex education. As per our survey, their preferred education method was at least 3 lessons plus 1 : 1 counseling, as necessary. Conclusion: This study indicates that a necessity exists for development of a sex education program for NKDWs to enhance their contraceptive knowledge. Thus, government and health managers have a role to play in developing such a program.
The purpose of this study was to identify the level of HIV/AIDS related knowledge and attitudes of Korean childbering women. The subject were 1152 Korean women who were living in the Seoul area and whose age was between 17-50 years. Data was collected by self reporting with a questionnaire of 57 items developed by the researcher. The reliability of the instrument for the HIV/AIDS related knowledge and attitudes were Cronbach's alpha. .6954 and .7987 respectively. The results were as follows: The mean age of the subjects was 26 years and 46.8% of them were married. The mean score for HIV/AIDS related knowledge was 14.7 out of a possible maximum score of 22. The correct answer rate for HIV/AIDS related knowledge was between 87.0-94.1% for the risk factors. and 36.4-54.8% for the transmission mode. Even though 87% of the subjects knew that homosexuals are risk group for HIV/AIDS. only half(55.8%) of the subjects answered that anal sex is the transmission mode. And only 57% of the subjects knew that HIV/AIDS transmission is possible through heterosexual contact. Their agreement level for attitudes was in order of communal coping (95%). pregnant women protection (94%). Problem appraisal (82%). patients isolation(68%). and disclosure of infection(67%). It was shown that the group who had a pregnancy (t=2.07, p=.039), used contraceptives (t=2.57, p=.OO1). and the group of college level graduates(t=3.61, p=.000) had a higher level of HIV/AIDS related knowledge. The agreement level of pregnant women protection. patient isolation. and problem appraisal were higher in the group of having had a pregnancy, having used contraceptives. and the group over 30 years of age. It was concluded that Korean childbearing women were quite knowledgeable about the risk factors but confused about the transmission mode. especially heterosexual contact. and they showed responsive attitudes to the HIV/AIDS issues considering the 339 infected cases in Korea. They preferred isolation of patients and communal coping as behavioral attitudes. Therefore it can be suggested that a HIV/AIDS prevention program should be focused on transmission mode.
