  • The contextual subjective well-being (SWB) of context-aware system users can be very helpful in recommending relevant mental health services, especially for those who struggle with mental illness due to a metabolic syndrome or melancholia. Self-surveying measuring or auto-sensing methods have been suggested to monitor users' SWB. However, self-surveying measuring method is not inappropriate for a context-aware service due to requesting personal data in a manual and hence obtrusive manner. Moreover, auto-sensing methods still suffer from accuracy problem to be applied in mental health services. Hence, the purpose of this paper is to propose a contextual SWB estimation method to estimate the user's mental health in unobtrusive and accurate manners. This method is timely in that it acquires context data from the user's literal responses, which expose their temporal feeling. In particular, we developed a measuring method based on exposed feeling verbs and degree adverbs in chat and other text-based communications which show anger or negative feelings. Based on the proposed contextual SWB degree estimation method, we developed an idea of well-being life care recommendation. From the experiment with actual drivers, we demonstrated that the proposed method accurately estimate the user's degree of negative feelings even though it does not require a self-survey.

  • The popularity of Smartphones makes new fields of applications based on location based service easily feasible with a new user interface called augmented reality (AR). It presents a particularly powerful user interface to context-aware computing environments. AR on Smartphones integrates virtual information into a person's physical environment by overlaying information on an image taken through Smartphone's camera and motion sensors. Mobile augmented reality systems provide this service without constraining the individual's whereabouts to a specially equipped area. This work presents an overview of handheld augmented reality focusing on applications with introducing the basic issues of them. For this purpose, an example system, Studierstube ES (embedded system), is cited, which introduces the most significant problems and various methods of solving them through the experience of converting existing PC-based AR system into handheld AR.

  • In ubiquitous environments, invisible devices and software are connected to one another to provide convenient services to users. In this environments, users want to get a variety of customized services by using only an individual mobile device which has limitations such as tiny display screens, limited input, and less powerful processors. Therefore, The device sharing for solving these limitation problems and its efficient processing is one of the new research topics. This paper proposes a device recommender system which searches and recommends devices for composing user requested services. The device recommender system infers devices based on environmental context of a user. However, customized devices for each user are different because of a variety of user preference even if users want to get the same service in the same space, Therefore the paper considers the user preference for device recommendation. Our device recommender system is implemented and tested on the real mobile object developed for device sharing in ubiquitous environments. Therefore we can expect that the system will be adaptable in real device sharing environments.

  • This paper proposes a ubiquitous robot, Ubibot, as an integration of three forms of robots: Software robot (Sobot), Embedded robot (Embot) and Mobile robot (Mobot). A Sobot is a virtual robot, which has the ability to move to any place or connect to any device through a network in order to overcome spatial limitations. It has the capacity to interpret the context and thus interact with the user. An Embot is embedded within the environment or within physical robots. It can recognize the locations of and authenticate the user or robot, and synthesize sensing information. Also it has the ability to deliver essential information to the user or other components of Ubibot by using various types of output devices. A Mobot provides integrated mobile service. In addition, Middleware intervenes different protocols between Sobot, Embot, and Mobot in order to incorporate them reliably. The services provided by Ubibot will be seamless, calm and context-aware based on the combination of these components. This paper presents the basic concepts and structure of Ubibot. A Sobot, called Rity, is introduced in order to investigate the usability of the proposed concepts. Rity is a 3D synthetic character which exists in the virtual world, has a unique IP address and interacts with human beings through Vision Embot, Sound Embot, Position Embot and Voice Embot. Rity is capable of moving into a Mobot and controlling its mobility. In doing so, Rity can express its behavior in the virtual world, for example, wondering or moving about in the real world. The experimental results demonstrate the feasibility of implementing a Ubibot in a networked environment.

  • In this paper, we propose adaptive convergence security policies and management technologies to improve security assurance in the home networking environment. Many security issues may arise in the home networking environment. Examples of such security issues include the user privacy, the service security, the integrated networking security, the middleware security and the device failure. All these security issues, however, should be fulfilled in phase due to many difficulties including deployment cost and technical complexity. For instance, fundamental security requirements such as authentication, access control and prevention of crime and disaster should be addressed first. Then, supplementary security policies and diverse security management technologies should be fulfilled. In this paper, we classify these requirements into three categories, a service authentication, a user authentication and a device authentication, and propose security policies and management technologies for each requirement. Since the home gateway is responsible for interconnection of many home devices and external network access, a variety of context information could be collected from such devices.

  • Future warfare paradigm is changing to network-centric warfare and effects-based operations. In order to find first and strike the enemy in the battlefield, friendly unit requires real-time target acquisition, intelligence collection, accurate situation assessment, and timely decision. The rapid development in advanced sensor technology and wireless networks requires a significant change in operational concepts of the battlefield surveillance. In particular, the introduction of a battlefield surveillance sensor network system is a big challenge to the ground forces which have lack of automated information collection assets. Therefore this paper proposes an ontology-based context-aware framework for the battlefield surveillance sensor network system which is needed for early finding the enemy and visualizing the battlefield in the ground force operations. Compared with the performance of existing systems, the one of the proposed framework has shown highly positive results by applying the context systems evaluation method. The framework has also proven to be satisfactory by the structured evaluation method using device collaboration. Since the proposed ontology-based context-aware framework has a lot of advantages in terms of scalability and reusability, the ground force's reconnaissance and surveillance system can be widely applied to expand in the future. And, ontology-based model has some weak points such as ontology data size, processing time, and limitation of network bandwidth. However, these problems can be resolved by customizing properly to fit the mission and characteristics of the unit. Moreover, development of the next-generation communication infrastructure can expedite the intelligent surveillance and reconnaissance service and may be expected to contribute greatly to expanding the information capacity.

  • A gigantic ship is constructed by assembling various types of ship blocks, each block being made by cutting and piecing the steel-plates together. The steel-plate piling process as the initial stage of ship construction sorts and manages the steel-plates according to the ship blocks that the steel-plates are used to make. The steel-plate piling process poses some problems such as process delay due to piling errors, safety vulnerability due to the handling of extra heavy-weight objects, and the uncertainty of work plan due to lack of information management in the pile spaces. We constructed a steel-plate piling process system based on the context-aware computing to resolve such problems. We built simulation system that can simulate the piling process and then established a smart space within the system by using tags, sensors and a real-time location system in order to collect context information. Workers receive an appropriate or intelligent service from the system.

  • As a subjective recognition effect, human's emotion has impulsive characteristic and it expresses intentions and needs unconsciously. These are pregnant with information of the context about the ubiquitous computing environment or intelligent robot systems users. Such indicators which can aware the user's emotion are facial image, voice signal, biological signal spectrum and so on. In this paper, we generate the each result of facial and voice emotion recognition by using facial image and voice for the increasing convenience and efficiency of the emotion recognition. Also, we extract the feature which is the best fit information based on image and sound to upgrade emotion recognition rate and implement Multi-Modal Emotion recognition system based on feature fusion. Eventually, we propose the possibility of the ubiquitous computing service reasoning method based on Bayesian Network and ubiquitous context scenario in the ubiquitous computing environment by using result of emotion recognition.
