Analyzing Cognitive or Non-Cognitive Factors Involved in the Process of Physics Problem Solving in an Everyday Context - An Effort for Sucessful Problem Solving in an Everyday Context -

  • In the previous study, six factors which could disturb students' problem solving in an everyday context were identified and discussed. In this study, teaching materials to help students overcome those disturbing factors for successful problem solving in an everyday context were developed and applied to twenty-nine grade 10 students, and the effects of teaching materials were analyzed. According to the analysis of the correlation between the performance in everyday context problem solving and the benefit from the teaching materials, it was found that students who received the help from the teaching materials showed better performance with statistical significance. And students noted that teaching materials were helpful for them to solve the physics problems. Analyzing the overall performance of students in solving the everyday context problem, students in the experimental group showed better performance than the control group and this performance difference was larger among low-score students in school science testing. However, these differences were not statistically significant because the sample size was small. And, based on the analysis of interviews with students, it was also found that some students who showed low performance might not receive help from the teaching materials because the materials were too complex to be read easily, or because the basic concepts needed to solve the problem were not understood. Therefore, the results obtained from the interviews will be used to design more effective teaching for problem solving in an everyday context.

상황 온톨로지를 이용한 동적 의사결정시스템 (Dynamic Decision Making using Social Context based on Ontology)

  • 본 연구는 사용자의 정적, 외부환경과 연관된 동적 상황정보와 사회적 관계와 연관된 개인적 상황정보들을 의사결정 요소로서 고려한 의사결정의 동적 변환(Dynamic Adaptation)을 제안한다. 즉, 의사결정자의 정적, 외재적 정보보다 과거의 경험, 주관적 선호도 및 사회적 관계와 연관된 상황정보(Social Context)를 의사결정에 동적으로 반영하고 동시에 의사결정 해의 사용시점에서의 가용성에 따라 유용 가능한 대안을 추출하는 방법론을 제안하고자 한다. 이를 위해, 정적, 외재적 및 사회적 상황정보를 이용하여 의사결정 추론한다. 추론은 의사결정자의 과거 경험에 기반한 사례기반 추론과 해당 의사결정 결과가 가용하지 않을 경우 수정을 위한 제약식 만족추론으로 이루어진다. 이를 위해 개인적 경험 등의 정보에 기반한 '문제상황 온톨로지'(Problem Context Ontology)와 집단의 경험적 지식에 기반한 '솔루션 온톨로지'(Solution Ontology)를 구축하였다. 의사결정단계는 상황정보 인식 및 문제상황 온톨로지에 매핑하는 단계, 경험적 사례로부터 문제상황에 가장 적합한 사례를 선택하는 단계, 생성된 솔루션이 가용하지 않을 경우 솔루션 온톨로지와 제약식 만족추론을 통해 새로운 대안을 생성하는 단계로 이루어진다. 본 방법론을 모임에 적합한 식당을 제안하는 예제를 적용함으로써 타당성을 검증하였다. 또한 실험을 통해 사회적 상황정보를 고려하여 생성된 의사결정대안이 그렇지 않은 경우보다 의사결정자의 만족도를 향상시켰으며, 생성된 의사결정대안이 가용하지 않은 경우 제약조건식과 솔루션 온톨로지를 이용해 생성한 대안이 유의미함을 검증하였다.

수학적 모델링 적용을 위한 문제상황 개발 및 적용 (A Study on Development of Problem Contexts for an Application to Mathematical Modeling)

  • Mathematical modeling has been observed in the way of a possibility to contribute in improving students' problem solving abilities. One of the important views of real life problem context could be described such as a useful ways to interpret the real life leading to children's abstraction process. The problem contexts for the grade 6 with mathematical modeling perspectives were developed by reviewing the current 7th National Mathematics Curriculum of Korea. Those include the 5 content areas such as number & operation, geometry, measurement, probability & statistics, and pattern & problem solving. One of problem contexts, "Space", specially designed for pattern & problem solving area, was applied to the grade 6 students and analyzed in detail to understand student's mathematical modeling progress.

A Recommendation System using Dynamic Profiles and Relative Quantification

  • Recommendation systems provide users with proper services using context information being input from many sensors occasionally under ubiquitous computing environment. But in case there isn't sufficient context information for service recommendation in spite of much context information, there can be problems of resulting in inexact result. In addition, in the quantification step to use context information, there are problems of classifying context information inexactly because of using an absolute classification course. In this paper, we solved the problem of lack of necessary context information for service recommendation by using dynamic profile information. We also improved the problem of absolute classification by using a relative classification of context information in quantification step. As the result of experiments, expectation preference degree was improved by 7.5% as compared with collaborative filtering methods using an absolute quantification method where context information of P2P mobile agent is used.

상호작용맥락에 따른 어머니와 유아의 상호작용 전략 : 자유놀이와 과제해결 맥락을 중심으로 (The Interaction Strategies of Mothers and Their Children in the Contexts of Free Play and Joint Problem Solving)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine if mothers and their children used different interaction strategies depending on the interacting contexts. Sixty-five mothers and their children were observed while they interacted with each other in two contexts, that is, a free play context and a joint problem solving context. The result of this study showed that first, the mothers' strategies and their children's strategies were closely related. When the mothers used positive strategies, their children also responded with positive strategies. In contrast, when the mothers used negative strategies, their children also tended to use negative strategies. Second, the contexts which the mothers and their children interacted affected the strategies that the mothers and their children used. The mothers and the children were more likely to use positive strategies in the context of free play than in the context of the joint problem solving. This result points out the importance of free play as the context of producing a positive atmosphere where the mothers and their children interacted positively and had a good time. Suggestions for further study and implications for parents were provided.

과학교육에서의 상황 관련 연구에 대한 개관과 분석 (Review and Analysis of the Studies on Contexts in Science Education)

  • The purpose of this study was to review the studies related to the problem of context in science education. Firstly, studies on context and context effects in science education (and also those related in cognitive psychology) were summarized according to the topics concerning science learning, such as deductive reasoning and probabilistic judgement, controlling variables, scientific inquiry skills, memory and consistency of misconceptions, selecting cognitive strategies and problem solving, achievement and momentum effect, and interest, religion and culture. Secondly, the common problems appeared from the analysis of the studies were discussed, such as (1) how to define contexts?, (2) how to classify contexts?, (3) how to characterize the effects of contexts? and (4) how to explain the context effects? Finally, the implications of the analysis of the studies on the problem of context were discussed in terms of recent development of science education, such as misconception studies, STS science education and the application of the history of science to science teaching.

수학적 맥락 정보를 이용한 수업 환경에서의 학습자의 문제 해결 활동 (A Study of Students' Mathematical Context Information Accompanied Problem -Solving Activities)

  • 수학적 맥락 정보를 이용한 문제가 주어졌을 때, 학생들의 문제 해결 활동을 관찰하고 인지적 측면과 정서적 측면에서 분석하였다. 수학적 맥락 문제들은 Freudenthal의 수학 교육 이론과 RME에 따라 구성하였다. 그 결과, 개방된 형태의 맥락 문제가 보다 다양한 풀이를 산출해냄을 알 수 있었다. 따라서 교사는 스스로 형식적 수학을 재발명하고, 학생들로 하여금 그에 걸맞은 인지적 활동이 이루어지도록 나름대로의 교수 학습 방법을 개발하여야 한다.

초등 수학 교과서의 문장제에 대한 실제적 맥락 관점에서의 분석 (An Analysis of the Word Problem in Elementary Mathematics Textbook from a Practical Contextual Perspective)

  • 문장제는 학습자에게 다양한 문제해결의 경험을 제공하고 수학적 지식을 맥락에 적용할 수 있도록 안내하여 학습자의 수학 학습을 더욱 의미 있게 이끌 수 있다. 본 연구는 초등 수학 교과서의 문장제를 실제적 맥락 관점에서 살펴봄으로써 교과서 집필 및 교수 학습 과정에 대한 시사점을 제공하고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 초등 수학 교과서 내 수와 연산 영역의 문장제를 살펴보았으며 구체적인 대안을 모색하기 위하여 미국과 핀란드의 초등 수학 교과서를 참고하였다. 분석 결과, 초등 수학 교과서의 문장제에 부자연스러운 맥락이나 소재를 설정하는 경우, 인위적인 수를 삽입하거나 문장제의 언어적 표현 및 삽화가 명료하지 않게 제시되는 경우 등이 나타났다. 이러한 경우 학습자가 문장제의 맥락을 실생활과 별개의 것으로 인식하거나 문장제에서 요구하는 내용을 이해하여 문제를 해결하기 어려울 수 있다. 추후 교과서 집필 시 학습자를 고려하여 소재를 설정하고 삽화, 도식 등을 적극적으로 활용하며 문장 및 삽화를 더 명료하게 구성하는 등 실제적 맥락을 고려하여 다양한 형태의 문장제를 구성할 필요가 있다.

Collaborative filtering based Context Information for Real-time Recommendation Service in Ubiquitous Computing

  • In pure P2P environment, it is possible to provide service by using a little real-time information without using accumulated information. But in case of using only a little information that was locally collected, quality of recommendation service can be fallen-off. Therefore, it is necessary to study a method to improve qualify of recommendation service by using users' context information. But because a great volume of users' context information can be recognized in a moment, there can be a scalability problem and there are limitations in supporting differentiated services according to fields and items. In this paper, we solved the scalability problem by clustering context information per each service field and classifying it per each user, using SOM. In addition, we could recommend proper services for users by quantifying the context information of the users belonging to the similar classification to the service requester among classified data and then using collaborative filtering.

초등 과학영재와 일반 학생의 과학탐구문제 발견 능력에 대한 비교 (A Comparison of Science Inquiry Problem Finding Ability of Gifted Elementary Students of Science and General Elementary Students)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the science inquiry problem finding ability of gifted elementary students of science and general elementary students. For this purpose, this study analyzed the types of science inquiry problems in an ill-structured problem finding situation. Also, this study has compared science inquiry problem finding abilities of those two groups. From the results of this study, new ways of improving student' science inquiry problem finding ability and selection of gifted students of science were suggested. The results of this study can be summarized as follows. First, most of the inquiry problems generated by the scientifically gifted and the general students in an ill-structured problem situation could be categorized into seven types (measurement, method, cause, possibility, what, comparison, relationship) according to the inquiry objectives, and both group found more problems in scientific context than in everyday context. Regardless of the context of problem, scientifically gifted students found more problems and the type of problems generated by them were more various than those of general students. Second, there were differences in problem finding ability between scientifically gifted and general students. Scientifically gifted students found more problems and the quality of problems were higher than general students.
