Subject of the paper is a particular configuration of overhead line, in which noise barrier structure is used as supports of the catenary instead of standard poles. This configuration is foreseen in case the noise barrier position is in conflict with the poles location. If the catenary is supported by the noise barrier, the motion that the latter undergo due to wave pressure associated to train transit is transmitted to the overhead line, so that potentially it influences the interaction between the catenary itself and the pantograph of the passing train. The paper focuses on the influence of such peculiar configuration on the quality of the current collection of high speed pantograph, for single and double current collection. The study has been carried out first with an experimental investigation on the pressure distribution on noise barrier, both in wind tunnel and with in-field tests. Subsequently a numerical analysis of the dynamics of the barrier subjected to the wave pressure due to train transit has been carried out, and the output of such analysis has been used as input data for the simulation of the pantograph-dynamic interaction at different speeds and with front or rear pantograph in operation. Consideration of structural modifications was then highlighted, in order to reduce the influence on the contact loss percentage.

The $O_2$ annealing technique has considerably suppressed the leakage current of GaN power devices, but this forms NiO at Ni-based Schottky contact with increasing on-resistance. The purpose of the present study was to fabricate 1.5 kV GaN Schottky barrier diodes by improving $O_2$-annealing process and GaN buffer. The proposed $O_2$ annealing performed after alloying ohmic contacts in order to avoid NiO construction. The ohmic contact resistance ($R_C$) was degraded from 0.43 to $3.42{\Omega}-mm$ after $O_2$ annealing at $800^{\circ}C$. We can decrease RC by lowering temperature of $O_2$ annealing. The isolation resistance of test structure which indicated the surface and buffer leakage current was significantly increased from $2.43{\times}10^7$ to $1.32{\times}10^{13}{\Omega}$ due to $O_2$ annealing. The improvement of isolation resistance can be caused by formation of group-III oxides on the surface. The leakage current of GaN Schottky barrier diode was also suppressed from $2.38{\times}10^{-5}$ to $1.68{\times}10^{-7}$ A/mm at -100 V by $O_2$ annealing. The GaN Schottky barrier diodes achieved the high breakdown voltage of 700, 1400, and 1530 V at the anode-cathode distance of 5, 10, and $20{\mu}m$, respectively. The optimized $O_2$ annealing and $4{\mu}m$-thick C-doped GaN buffer obtained the high breakdown voltage at short drift length. The proposed $O_2$ annealing is suitable for next-generation GaN power switches due to the simple process and the low the leakage current.
Polyimides (PI) are treated with $He/O_2$ and $He/O_2/NF_3$ atmospheric pressure rf dielectric barrier discharge in order to investigate the roles of $NF_3$ that is one of the PI etching gases. Surface changes are analyzed by x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), atomic force microscopy (AFM), and contact angle measurement. The surface roughness of PI and the ratio of C=O, which is hydrophilic functional group, is more increased by $He/O_2/NF_3$ discharge than by $He/O_2$ discharge. The C=O species on the PI surface is increased up to 30 percent with rf power. The surface roughness of PI is increased from 0.4 to 11 nm with rf power. The water drop contact angles on PI, however, are reduced from $65^{\circ}\;to\;9^{\circ}$ by plasma treatment independently of $NF_3$.

We report on the formation mechanism of large Schottky barrier height (SBH) of nonalloyed Cr Schottky contacts on strained Al0.25Ga0.75N/GaN. Based on the current-voltage (I-V) and capacitance-voltage (C-V) data, the SBHs are determined to be 1.98 (${\pm}0.02$) and 2.07 (${\pm}0.02$) eV from the thermionic field emission and two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG) calculations, respectively. Possible formation mechanism of large SBH will be described in terms of the formation of Cr-O chemical bonding at the interface between Cr and AlGaN/GaN, low binding-energy shift to surface Fermi level, and the reduction of 2DEG electrons.

The Ni/SiC Schottky diode was fabricated with the $\alpha$-SiC thin film grown by the ICP-CVD method on a (111) Si wafer. $\alpha$-SiC film has been grown on a carbonized Si layer in which the Si surface was chemically converted to a very thin SiC layer achieved using an ICP-CVD method at $700^{\circ}C$. To reduce defects between the Si and $\alpha$-SiC, the surface of the Si wafer was slightly carbonized. The film characteristics of $\alpha$-SiC were investigated by employing TEM (Transmission Electron Microscopy) and FT-IR (Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy). Sputterd Ni thin film was used as the anode metal. The boundary status of the Ni/SiC contact was investigated by AES (Auger Electron Spectroscopy) as a function of the annealing temperature. It is shown that the ohmic contact could be acquired beyond a 100$0^{\circ}C$ annealing temperature. The forward voltage drop at 100A/cm was I.0V. The breakdown voltage of the Ni/$\alpha$-SiC Schottky diode was 545 V, which is five times larger than the ideal breakdown voltage of the silicon device. As well, the dependence of barrier height on temperature was observed. The barrier height from C- V characteristics was higher than those from I-V.

In this study, gate leakage current mechanism has been analyzed for GaAs MESFET with different temperatures ranging from 27$^{\circ}C$ to 300$^{\circ}C$ . It is expected that the thermionic and field emission at the MS contact will dominate the current flow. Thermal cycle is applied to test the reliability of the device. From the results, it is proved that thermal stress gradually increases the gate leakage current at the same bias conditions and leads to the breakdown and failure mechanism which is critical in the field equipment. Finally the gate contact under the repeated thermal shock has been tested to check the quality of Schottky barrier and the current will be expressed in the analytical from to associate with the electrical characteristics of the device.
This study investigates changes in the mechanical behavior, such as changes in indentation load-displacement curve, wear resistance and contact fatigue resistance of thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) by thermal cycling test and thermal shock test. Relatively dense and porous TBCs on nickel-based bondcoat/superalloy are prepared; the highest temperature applied during thermal durability test is $1350^{\circ}C$. The results indicate that the porous TBCs have relatively longer lifetime during thermal cycling and thermal shock tests, while denser TBCs have relatively higher wear and contact fatigue resistance. The mechanical behavior is influenced by sintering of the TBCs by exposure to high temperature during tests.
To improve the performance of organic thin film transistor, we investigated the properties of gate insulator's surface according to the leakage current by I-V measurement. The surface was treated by the dilute n-octadecyltrichlorosilane solution. The alkyl group of n-octadecyltrichlorosilane induced the electron tunneling and the electron tunneling current caused the breakdown at high electric field, consequently shifting the breakdown voltage. The 0.5% sample with an electron-rich group was found to have a large leakage current and a low barrier height because of the effect of an energy barrier lowered by, thermionic current, which is called the Schottky contact. The surface properties of the insulator were analyzed by I-V measurement using the effect of Poole-Frankel emission.

Graphene, with a carrier mobility achieving up to $140,000cm^2/Vs$ at room temperature, makes it an ideal material for application in semiconductor devices. However, when the metal comes in contact with the graphene sheet, an energy barrier forms at the metal-graphene interface, resulting in a drastic reduction of the carrier mobility of graphene. In this review, the various methods of forming metal-graphene covalent contacts to lower the contact resistance are discussed. Furthermore, the graphene sheet in the area of metal contact can be cut in certain patterns, also discussed in this review, which provides a more efficient approach to forming covalent contacts, ultimately reducing the contact resistance for the realization of high-performance graphene devices.
