Korean "Little Emperor": A Grounded Theory Approach to Clothing Market for Pre-schoolers

  • In this study, we tried to understand preschooler clothing trends and identify the purchase behaviors of various consumers, such as grandparents, aunts, uncles, and parents, who are the main consumers of the preschooler clothing market. We conducted in-depth interviews with consumers who were interested in preschooler clothing, purchased it frequently, and bought preschooler clothing within the last three months. Their purchase motivations and purchase behaviors were analyzed through exploratory and inductive analysis. The analysis was conducted by integrating categories into one process centered on core categories through open coding, axial coding, and selective coding. The results of this study included that 1) a variety of clothing purchase behaviors appeared as a central phenomenon, 2) the causal conditions that contributed to this phenomenon were the buyers' childcare experiences, purchase experiences, the personal consumption values of individuals, and income levels, 3) in response to the central phenomenon, the parents' action/interaction strategies were acceptance and rejection of purchased clothing, 4) contextual and Intervening conditions affecting action/interaction strategy were family environment changes, the VIB (Very Important Baby) phenomenon, parents' clothing involvement, and the relationship with the buyers, and acceptance by the users, and 5) as a result of the strategy expressed as acceptance and rejection, various clothing behaviors emerged. In this study, we identified that there are various influencers, apart from parents, involved in children's clothing consumption. Therefore, we need to keep in mind that various purchase behaviors and clothing trends that appear during one's childhood may affect the individual's clothing behavior in the future.

서울지역 중.고등학생의 환경친화적 의복 소비행동 (The Environmental-Friendly Clothing Consumption Behavior of Middle and High School Students in Seoul)

  • 본 연구는 청소년의 환경친화적 의복 소비행동에 영향을 미치는 변수들을 파악하여, 환경친화적 의복 구매, 사용, 처분행동을 유도하기 위한 교육적 자료를 제공하는데 목적이 있다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 청소년의 환경활동 경험은 보통 이상이며, 환경활동 경험 중 환경문제에 대한 교육을 받은 경험이 가장 낮게 나타났다. 둘째, 환경친화적 가치관 중 환경보전 가치관이 가장 높게, 이타주의 가치관이 가장 낮게 나타났다. 셋째, 의복을 통하여 개성을 추구하고자 하는 욕구가 가장 크고 다음으로 편안함과 가격을 추구했으며, 유행과 브랜드를 추구하는 성향은 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 넷째, 환경친화적 의복 소비의식 중 처분의식은 보통 이상이나 구매의식과 환경문제 인식은 보통 이하로 낮게 나타났다. 특히 의복이 유발하는 환경문제에 대한 인식이 가장 낮은 점을 감안해 의복의 생산과 소비과정에서의 환경오염과 이를 예방할 수 있는 방안에 대한 교육이 필요하다. 다섯째, 환경친화적으로 의복을 소비하는 행동은 전체적으로 낮게 나타났다. 하위요인 중 사용과 처분 행동은 어느 정도 실행되나 구매 행동은 환경친화적으로 이루어지지 못하고 있었다. 이는 그동안의 환경교육이 주로 자원 절약과 재활용 등 사용 및 처분행동에 초점을 맞추어 진행되었기 때문으로 생각되며, 따라서 앞으로는 소비의 시작인 의복의 구매단계에서 환경친화적인 소비행동을 할 수 있도록 교육해야 할 것이다. 여섯째, 청소년의 환경친화적 의복 소비행동에 영향을 미치는 변수 중 가격 추구 성향과 의복 처분의식은 의복 구매 사용 처분의 모든 의복 소비행동에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다.

수중수색 시 수심에 따른 공기소모량의 변화 분석 (Analysis of changes in air consumption according to water depth in underwater search)

  • 이 연구는 수심에 따른 공기소모량의 변화를 인간의 특성 및 이론값과의 비교·분석하였다. 실험 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 실험대상자 A·B는 수심에 따라 각각 비슷한 상승률을 보였다. 둘째, 실험대상자 C는 수중 25m에서 공기소모량의 상승률이 유의하게 높게 나타났는데, 그 이유는 깊은 수심의 수압에 신체가 민감하게 반응하여, 호흡이 다른 참여자보다 다소 빨라 공기소모량을 증가시킨 것으로 보인다. 셋째, 실험대상자 D·E는 공기소모량이 전반적으로 유의하게 낮게 나타났다. 이는 D와 E의 연령이 각각 37세, 35세로 실험대상자 중 가장 젊고, 체력이 강건하며, 군 복무 당시 해상의 심해 잠수경험이 풍부하여 나타난 결과로 보인다. 넷째, 실험대상자 분당 평균 공기소모량은 수면과 비교하여 수중 5m는 약 1.45배, 수중 10m는 약 1.85배, 수중 20m는 약 2.8배로 분당 공기소모량이 증가하였다. 이는 구조대원 각자의 경험과 체력, 신체가 수중에서 적응하는 정도의 차이, 그리고 수중 호흡법이 달라서 나타난 결과로 보인다. 마지막으로 실험 평균값과 이론값의 차이는 실험대상자 구조대원 5명 각자의 경험과 체력, 신체가 수중에서 적응하는 정도의 차이 및 수중 호흡법에 따라 이론값보다 많거나 적게 공기를 소모하여서 나타난 결과로 보인다.

남성의 명품 소비와 차이의 문화정치 한국 사회 30대 남성의 소비 경험을 중심으로 (A Study of Male Luxury Consumption and the Cultural Politics of Difference Focused on the Consumer Experiences of Men in their 30s)

  • 이 연구는 한국 사회 남성들의 명품 소비가 갖는 사회문화적 의미는 무엇이며, 개인이 명품 제품에 어떤 의미를 부여하고 또 이를 소비하는 과정에서 어떤 경험과 실천을 하는지 분석하고 있다. 이러한 의미와 실천을 둘러싼 일련의 과정들이 개인의 삶에 개입되는 방식과 이들의 총합으로서 한국 사회의 브랜드 소비와 물질문화를 둘러싼 다기한 지형과 문화정치를 비판적으로 독해하고 있다. 연구 방법으로 30대 남성 9명을 대상으로 심층면접을 통해 이들의 명품 소비 경험을 수집하였다. 연구 대상자들은 자기표현이나 타인과의 관계를 위한 상징적 욕구의 충족과 정체성 및 라이프스타일(lifestyle)의 연장선상에서 명품 제품을 소비하고 있었다. 이들에게 명품은 애착의 대상일 뿐 아니라, 새로운 관계와 자기 정체성의 형성 과정으로서 이를 소비하는 일련의 활동을 통해 지속적인 만족감이나 자기 효능감을 경험한다. 이들은 자신의 준거 집단으로부터 브랜드 소비 양식을 학습하면서 명품과 명품이 아닌 제품을 혼용해 사용하는 포스트모던(postmodern)적 소비 행태와 전략을 드러내기도 한다. 한국 사회에서 적절한 명품소비는 타자와의 관계에서 우위를 점하기 위한 전략이나 필요로 인식되며, 이에서 파생되는 기호들은 현대사회의 남성성이 경제적 자본과 연동되는 자기관리, 자기계발 등의 가치와 불가분의 관계에 있음을 시사한다.

서울지역 실버고객들의 외식식습관과 소비행동 속성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Eating Behaviors and Characteristics of Consumption Propensities on Dining out as Perceived by Silver Generation in Seoul)

  • 오늘날 실버세대는 독립된 소비세대로 사회 여러 분야에서 실버외식산업을 급성장시키는 세대이기도 하다. 본 연구에서는 새로운 소비의 주체세력으로 부상하고 있는 실버세대를 대상으로 실버세대에 대한 외식 소비행동에 따른 외식 선택속성과 식습관 변화를 살펴보고자 하였다. 서울에 거주하는 55세 이상의 실버 연령인 216명을 대상으로 하여 식습관 수준과 인구사회학적 특성에 따른 변인분석은 독립표본 t-검증과 F-검증을 실시하였으며, 실버세대의 식습관에 따른 소비태도와 외식소비행동 차이를 알아보기 위하여는 ${\chi}^2$검증을 실시하였다. 분석한 연구 결과를 요약하여 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 첫째, 실버세대의 식습관 수준은 3점 만점에 평균 2.02점으로 나타나, 식습관이 어느 정도 양호함을 알 수 있었다. 둘째, 실버세대의 식습관에 따른 외식소비태도 차이를 분석한 결과, 식습관 태도가 비교적 양호한 사람들이 불량한 집단보다 물리적인 환경, 메뉴의 다양성, 업체의 품질과 서비스를 찾아서 외식업체를 선택하는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 실버세대의 식습관에 따른 외식소비행동 변화를 분석한 결과, 식습관 수준에 따른 외식업체 정보 출처와 외식업체 선택 선정기준 변수에 대해서만 집단 간 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다.

Fashion Consumer Segmentation based on Interpersonal Trust Online

  • Since trusting in other consumers may refer to having similar needs and preferences on fashion goods with them, interpersonal trust can be a reliable and practical criterion for market segmentation online. Therefore, this study aims to identify fashion online consumers based on interpersonal trust. This study segments fashion consumers based on interpersonal trust and experience and describes characteristics of each segment by examining demo-psychographic and behavioral variables as well as clothing consumption values. An online survey was conducted to collect data from 426 adult consumers who had bought fashion goods from their patronized e-tailer in the past one month. They completed a self-administered questionnaire inquiring about interpersonal trust, trust in e-tailers, purchase intentions, clothing consumption values, and their purchasing behavior online. Two-step cluster analysis generated four segments: distrustful doers, trusting doers, inactive trusters, and distrusters. They exhibited different characteristics in gender, online experiences, interpersonal trust, clothing consumption values, trust in the e-tailers, and attitude toward the e-tailers. Providing a new effective segmentation base, this study suggests that fashion marketers identify customers with a high level of trust in other customers and develop an encouraging environment that customers can interact with others in order to increase the effectiveness of trust. Because customers with a higher level of interpersonal trust are likely to have stronger trust in e-tailers with, more favorable attitude and purchase intention, and highly perceive the value of clothing consumption than those who have a lower level of interpersonal trust.

메타버스 점포의 가상성이 창의적 소비에 미치는 영향 -몰입 경험의 매개효과와 창의적 제품 추구 성향의 조절효과 검증- (Impact of Metaverse Store Virtuality on Creative Consumption -Exploring the Mediating Role of Flow Experience and the Moderating Role of Creative Product-Seeking Tendency-)

  • Unlike traditional retail formats, the metaverse offers diverse shopping experiences, ranging from content that mimics reality to content that transcends reality based on its characteristic of virtuality. This study elaborates on the concept of virtuality within store environments and investigates how the virtuality level of a metaverse store influences consumers' creative consumption by mediating the flow experience. Additionally, it examines the interaction effect of creative product-seeking tendencies and individual characteristics on the relationship between flow experience and creative consumption behavior. A web-based experiment was conducted on young Korean female adults who experienced metaverse shopping. Ninety-one samples were analyzed using exploratory factor and bootstrap analyses with SPSS Macro process Models 4 and 14. The findings demonstrate that store virtuality (low vs. high) increases consumers' purchase intentions of creative fashion items by enhancing their flow toward the shopping experience. Furthermore, the effect of flow experience on creative consumption is strengthened when consumers have low creative product-seeking tendencies. This study contributes to expanding the concept of virtuality in virtual retailing and provides insights for fashion retailers planning to create virtual shopping spaces within the metaverse platform.

남자 고등학생의 문제행동과 성지식, 성태도 유형 및 성 관련 경험과의 관계 (A Study on the Relationship between Risk Behaviors, Sexual Knowledge, Sexual Attitudes, and Sexual Experience in Male High School Students)

  • Purposes: This study examined the relationship between risk behaviors and sexual knowledge, sexual attitudes, and sexual experiences of male high school students. Method: A cross-sectional, descriptive study was conducted. Data were collected from 2 male high schools in metropolitan Gwangju. Five hundred forty-eight boys were enrolled in this study. Descriptive statistics, factor analysis, t-test or ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation were used for data analysis. Results: The mean sexual knowledge and sexual experience scores were relatively low, 0.60 out of 1 point, and 0.75 out of 4 points, respectively. Three attitude types of the students were identified: permissible, conservative and pleasure seeking attitude. The score of the permissible type was affected by the subjects' exposure to pornographic material. The score of the conservative type was affected by alcohol consumption and acquaintances with a heterosexual friend. The score of the pleasure seeking type was affected by their exposure to pornographic material, alcohol consumption, smoking, going to a video-room, and acquaintances with a heterosexual friend. There was a negative correlation between the permissible type and sexual knowledge, and a positive correlation between the conservative and pleasure seeking types and sexual experience. Conclusion: Male high school students who have been exposed to risk behaviors have a higher likelihood of indulging in sexual activity, and the pleasure seeking type appears to be related to sexual experience. An educational program may be needed to prevent risky behaviors and sexual experiences in male high school students considering their sexual attitude type.

Food security experiences of displaced North Korean households

  • BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Food shortage situation in North Korea has gained much interest, however food insecurity caused by the food shortage in North Korean households has not been much investigated. This study examined food security experiences and food consumption pattern of displaced North Korean households currently living in South Korea. SUBJECTS/METHODS: Food security experience among 51 North Korean households living in South Korea was examined using the Household Food Insecurity Access Scale (HFIAS) in three time points: immediately before childbirth, immediately before leaving North Korea, and immediately before entering South Korea. Meal/snack consumption frequencies and food diversity were also examined. RESULTS: Food security situation was the worst at the time of immediately before leaving North Korea with the average HFIAS score of 10.05. The households that were food insecure, they tended to be "severely" insecure. Although majority of the subjects reported having three or more meals a day, food diversity in their diet was very low with the average food diversity score of 2.17 immediately before childbirth and 1.74 immediately before leaving North Korea. Their diet appeared to heavily rely on grain and vegetable. CONCLUSIONS: This study is one of few that specifically examined food security of North Korean households with a pre-developed scale, and that demonstrated food security situation at different time points in quantified terms. Replicating this study with different groups of North Korean households for different time points would allow more complete understanding of impacts of food shortage. Food diversity score could provide a good way to examine changes of food consumption occurring to North Koreans in the process of adaptation. More attention to the changes occurring during adaption to South Korea should be given to understand the process and impact and to prepare public nutrition policy for the re-unified Korea.

여대생의 라이프 스타일에 따른 화장품 소비행동 (The Cosmetic Consumption Behavior According to the Life Styles of University Women.)

  • The purposes of this study were to classify the university women according to their life styles and to analyze the cosmetic consumption behavior of classified groups. The results of this study may suggest cosmetics production and sales plan to manufactures and distributers and to provide cosmetic consumption guides for the university women. For empirical study a questionnaire developed by researchers was distributed to 456 of university women in Chonbuk province from Aug. 26 to Sep. 17 1998. Frequencies and percentages were claculated. And factor analysis cluster analysis and $\chi$2-test were used. The results were as follows: 1. University women were clustered into 5 types of sound and self pursuit type realistic and fashion pursuit type external and liberal type delightful and enjoying type and passive and stagnate type according to their life styles. 2. Sound and self pursuit type was characterized by the faithfulness to school and home life and economical lining. They got cosmetics information through direct experiences by use of samples put on full make-ups to protect their skin and selected refill cosmetic products to save money. 3. Realistic and fashion pursuit type were sensitive to fashion and had a strong desire for material achievement. They put on full make-ups exchange unsatisfactory cosmetics at the store where they bought and had a lot of imported cosmetics experiences. 4. External and liberal type showed little concern with saving and had progressive thinking. They bought cosmetics at the department store got informations from market-oriented information sources. perferred shopping at department stores considerred price most important when selecting cosmetics exchanged unsatisfactory cosmetics at the store they bought when they were not satisfied with the flavor or skin troule. 5. Delightful and enjoying type showed the least faithfulness to their home and school life. They put on partial make-ups for the correction of facial defects or etiquette. 6. Passive and stagnate type enjoyed home life but were passive in real life and open-mindness They got cosmetics information from marketer-oriented information sources bought cosmetics at discount stores considered price most important when selecting cosmetics put on basic or at least mke-ups to protect their skin had the least experience in the imported cosmetics and refill products.
