Through the recent pandemic, this study examined the theory of awe, which explains that external crises affect people's value systems and consequential behaviors. During the pandemic, some consumers expressed a growing interest in equity, while others pursued the consumption of materialistic items, such as luxurious fashion goods. According to the theory of awe, both of these phenomena could be coping responses to the crisis. Based on this, we attempted to understand the psychological processes behind the pandemic's effect on these two different consumers value systems thereby influencing sustainable consumption intentions: one through the new ecological paradigm (NEP) that emphasizes consumers' increased consciousness, and the other through materialism that emphasizes consumers' self-centered side. The results obtained from a survey of 382 U.S. consumers revealed that the degree of pandemic experience increased consumers' NEP and materialism, which also increased their economic and ethical CSR expectations. These CSR expectations then enhanced consumers' sustainable consumption intentions. As sustainable consumption and CSR are important agendas for the fashion industry, this study will provide useful insights for researchers and practitioners in the fashion field.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the differences of influence between luxury brand value and preferences according to consumers' regulatory focus. For data collection, research questionnaires were responded by females consumers living in Pusan and Ulsan. The collected data were analyzed according to the frequency-factor analysis using SPSS 14.0 for windows Package, the factor analysis using Varimax, reliability analysis, T-test, multi-regression analysis, and chow-test. The results were as follows: First, Based on an independent samples t-test, It was found that prevention-oriented respondents were significantly more qualify value and economic value than promotion-oriented respondents, promotion-oriented respondents were significantly more aesthetic value than prevention-oriented respondents. Second, concerning the worth of luxury brands that aesthetic value, qualify value, economic value, conspicuous value, and emotional value significantly affected the consumers' preference about luxury brand. On the other hand, only social value of the luxury brand did not have a significant effect on the consumers' preference about luxury brand. Second, the study was to investigate whether the luxury brand value has an effect on the brand preference depending on the consumer's regulatory focus. The results showed that there were different perceived values of luxury brand preference between the promotion-focused and the prevention-focused consumers. The promotion focus group had the effect on conspicuous value and emotional value, while the prevention focus group had the effect on quality value and economic value for luxury brand preference.
Purpose The purpose of this study is to understand the factors that influence the purchasing behavior of NFT collectibles consumers, using the value-based acceptance model (VAM). As the use of NFTs is predicted to become more widespread in the near future, it is important to explore how these consumers make purchasing decisions. Design/methodology/approach This study employed text analysis and in-depth interviews to identify the factors of benefits and sacrifices perceived by consumers. Based on the results of the exploratory study, a research model and hypotheses were established. To test the hypotheses, an online survey was conducted, and the data was analyzed using a structural equation model. Findings The major findings of this study showed that perceived benefit factors had a significant positive impact on consumers' perceived value of NFT collectibles, whereas perceived sacrifice factors did not have a significant effect on perceived value. Also, when consumers' social needs were met, their perceived value was highest. Lastly, the effect of perceived value on purchase intention was not affected by the level of psychological ownership.

Purpose Since COVID-19, the demand for online class platforms has increased. However, those platforms have not been clearly defined, and related research is also limited. In the context of the knowledge marketplace (KMs), this study examined the effects of class information and trust in creators on class preferences from the perspective of consumption value theory. Design/methodology/approach By establishing a web crawler through Python, this study collected 1,174 class data in Korea's leading knowledge marketplace, Class 101, focusing on diverse class-related information and the number of Instagram followers for individual class creators. Based on class information, this research analyzed the effects of consumers' utilitarian value, social value, and hedonic value on class preference. In addition, this study examined whether consumers' trust in creators moderates the relationship between class information and class preference. Findings According to analysis results, it was found that the higher the consumers' consumption value for each class on KMs, the more positive their preference for the class. Also, it was confirmed that consumers' trust in creators moderates the relationship between class information and class preference.
Purpose: The application of IoT is finding continuous acceptance in our daily lives, particularly, smart speakers are making life easier and convenient for consumers. This research aims to develop and test an integrated model of factors influencing consumer's adoption of voice-enabled IoT devices. Design/methodology/approach: Based on the VAM, an integrated voice-enabled IoT device adoption model is proposed. Gender differences on five constructs relating with perceived value (perceived usefulness, perceived enjoyment, perceived security risk, perceived technicality and perceived cost) was also examined through PLS-MGA technique. The usage experience of consumers was also controlled in the integrated VAM. Findings: Result shows that Perceived-Usefulness, Perceived-Enjoyment and Perceived-Cost have a strong effect on Perceived-Value. However, Perceived-Technicality and Perceived-Security-Risk are non-influential and have no significant effect on PV. Additionally, Perceived-Value and Social-Influence plays a significant role in predicting adoption intention. Gender differences also exist in consumers perception of usefulness, enjoyment and cost. In comparison to the basic value-based adoption model, the integrated model provides more insight on consumers adoption of voice-enabled IoT devices. Originality/value: Using an integrated model, this study is one of the first scholarly attempt at modelling the influential factors for adopting smart speakers i.e., voice-enabled IoT devices, with implications for improved adoption.
As sustainability has grown into a key global issue, more and more information technology (IT) products have adopted these concepts to attract consumers. However, these products potentially require consumers' physical or economic sacrifice at least for a short period of time. Therefore, the reason of consumers' adoption of sustainable IT products cannot be fully explained by the two traditional values: hedonic and utility values. However, expectancy-value theory, which has been used to explain the relationship between value and behavior, still takes hedonic value and utility value into consideration. The purpose of this study is to suggest an amended expectancy-value theory to better explain the adoption of IT products that consider sustainability. For this purpose, two social values-the normative value based on the Schwartz's model of moral norm and the eudemonic value of the Stoic philosophy-were added to the individual values to examine which value particularly influences the adoption of sustainable IT products. In addition, the moderating effect of perceived sustainability between four values and adoption of sustainable IT products was verified.
Apparel companies define their target customers to integrate consumers' needs into their product development processes. The sizing standards play a significant role in ready-to-wear garment business. Consumers' body build and sizes are different according to gender, age, and body type. The consumers' morphological feature of the one geographical area has changed with immigration, aging, and lifestyle change. In this study the way of defining body types in the standard garment sizing systems published in USA., UK, Germany, Japan, and Korea were compared. The results of this study show that most of the systems classified the body types by the index value. The chest-waist drop value was used for men's body type classification. Women's body types were defined by hip proportion. The hip-bust drop value was used for it. German and European garment sizing systems provide a wide range of men's body types. US men's garment sizes are developed for very conservative body type. US women's garment sizing system has had clearly defined women's body types. The Misses body types projected in the US garment sizing system had changed as women's waist girth got bigger compared to the past. In 2011 the US Misses sizes were divided into Curvy Misses size and Straight Misses size by the hip-waist drop value. The Curvy Misses sizes have smaller waist girth and larger hip girth than the Straight Misses sizes.
The purpose of this study was to examine the women consumers' pursued clothing images and consumption values according to the value system. The data was obtained from questionnaires filled out by 305 women living in Seoul and Gyung-gi. For data analysis, factor analysis, cronbach's alpha, ANOVA and cluster analysis were used. The results of this study were as follows: First, value, pursued clothing images and clothing consumption values were consisted of various factors. Second, women's values influenced on the pursued clothing images and clothing consumption values. Third, according to value factors, women classified into four groups, And they showed different pursued clothing images and consumption values. Also they were differentiated with shopping frequency and age. Therefore, value system was the important factor which can suggest the women's pursued clothing images and consumption values and marketer should know the value system of targeting consumers.
Objectives: Despite the growing market share of online grocery shopping, there is a need to understand customer perceived value due to the ongoing advancements in information technology. This study explores the connections between attributes, consequences, and values. Additionally, it conducts a cross-country comparison of consumers' online grocery shopping behaviors to gain a deeper understanding of consumer market segments and any potential variations among them. Methods: Data was collected through an online questionnaire survey conducted from May 1 to 15, 2024, targeting 400 consumers in Seoul, Korea, and Shanghai, China, who have experience with online grocery shopping. The survey utilized the Means-End Chain theory and association pattern technique hard laddering. Data collation and analysis were conducted using the IBM SPSS Statistics 28.0 program. Results: The study identified key attributes that influence online grocery shopping decisions, including delivery service, price, freshness, and quality. Korean consumers demonstrated a higher sensitivity to price (19.0%) and delivery service (17.0%). In contrast, Chinese consumers prioritized delivery service (15.0%) and after-sales service (14.8%). Commonly cited consequences included time saving (12.6% for Koreans, 11.3% for Chinese), whereas prevalent values encompassed convenience (36.8% for Koreans, 19.6% for Chinese) and economic value (26.6% for Koreans, 14.7% for Chinese). The HVM underscored these insights, highlighting diverse consumer preferences and country-specific nuances. Conclusions: The findings highlight the current state of online food consumption and consumers' value systems, revealing variations among countries. These findings offer empirical insights that can be used to create customized global marketing strategies that resonate with various consumer preferences and market dynamics.
Recently, the Korean government has been trying to conserve the genetic resources of native chicken. Although the production aspect is important, consumers should also value the native chicken in order for this market to grow. As certification systems are used to inform consumers about the value of a product, this study aims to investigate certification systems for chicken in France. Two regions were selected: Alsace and Bresse. We conducted a value-chain analysis of activities related to native chicken in each of these two regions, including hatching, breeding, slaughtering and processing, distributing, and marketing activities. We found that various certification systems were used not only to inform consumers about the value of the native chicken but also to protect biodiversity. Also, geographical indication, one kind of certification system, was utilized to establish higher quality based on the characteristics of each region. Implications pertinent to a domestic certification system for Korean native chickens were suggested.
