Results - Individualism had a positive influence upon materialism, need for uniqueness, and face wants, and collectivism had a positive influence upon materialism only. Factors of self-expressive consumption inclination had a positive influence upon eco-friendly product purchase intention, and factors of value inclination also had a positive influence. Finally, self-expressive consumption inclination mediated between value inclination and eco-friendly product purchase intention. Conclusion - Consumers with individualism inclination felt the need to connect the ownership of an eco-friendly product with their extended self and, further, it was clear that not only the government but also enterprises should build up their public image regarding eco-friendly products.

  • This experimental study aimed to investigate the determinants of fashion products donation intentions built on two consumer attributions: strategic and value-driven motives. While consumers may perceive that the underlying motivations of a firm's CSR initiatives are to sincerely help society, they may also believe that such initiatives are strategically motivated and that the firm only engages in CSR to improve its corporate image. Therefore, this study tested how extrinsic factors (consumer monetary and non-monetary- benefits for participating in a donation campaign) and intrinsic factors (i.e., altruistic attitudes) influenced perceived value- and strategic-driven motives, which in turn promote donation intentions. An analysis of 268 responses revealed that monetary benefits, such as offering discount coupons, increased consumers'perception of strategic motives, while non-monetary benefits, such as offering a ring and acertificate, enhanced their perception of value-driven motives. In addition, consumers who tended to have a positive altruistic attitude were more likely to perceive value-driven motives, and this orientation also directly increased donation intentions. These findings also confirmed that only value-driven motives promoted donation intentions. However, consumer benefits did not directly affect donation intentions. The findings of this study suggest valuable managerial implications as well as academic contributions.

  • Purpose: Prior studies rarely investigated the effects of the Word of Mouse (WoM) information on consumers' motivation and willingness to purchase a product. Furthermore, few scholars have studied how word-of-mouth information works and they fail to find consistent results. Research design, data and methodology: This study uses a multivariate regression model to investigate the influence of WoM on consumer attitudes and consumer decision-making. It categorizes the quality of WoM into source level and acceptance level, to analyze its influence from a new perspective. A total of 400 surveys were completed, resulting in 336 usable questionnaires for analysis. It was collected in 14 cities from all regions in China. This study constructs a theoretical model of WoM influence on consumers' purchase willingness based on a systematic review of the related literature on WoM quality, perceived value, customer trust, and consumers' purchase willingness. Results: Empirical results reveal that the Internet WoM (consumer's source level and acceptance level) indirectly affects consumer behavior by influencing consumer attitudes. Conclusions: This study provides practical significance and value for merchants to develop better WoM marketing and to establish the reliability of WoM websites. Companies should consider online WoM from the perspective of consumers, thereby improving existing marketing strategies.
