  • To execute load curtailment efficiently for Urban Railway Load, the load patterns of the Urban Railway Load and available amount of load curtailment over the Urban Railway Load are analyzed through comparing the load to the common power loads. In addition, the current policies of the load curtailment for the Urban Railway Load are investigated and the problems of those are presented. Based on the researches, the optimal load curtailment strategies for the Urban Railway Load are proposed to minimize the consumer's utility diminishment and the costs of the use of energies. Finally, the optimal load curtailment strategies are applied to the real Urban Railway Load, the results shows that proposed methods are efficient and cost effective while the amount of load curtailment is minimized.

A total of 239 questionnaires were completed. A multinomial logit model is specified in order to estimate which factors influence the probability that a consumer perceives the country of origin as helpful in assessing food quality and food safety. The estimations were carried out using the logistic procedure of SAS. The results are as follows. The proportional odds assumptions of models were not violated at p<0.05. The effects of age, income, children, occupation and respondents informed on the importance of the country of origin in pork quality model were statistically significant. The effects of age, children, occupation and trust on the importance of the country of origin in pork safety model were statistically significant. • The main objective of this study was to examine the effects of family-friendly culture in various organizations in the private sectors on employee self-reported work-family balance and qualities of lives. It also attempted to clarify whether employee perceived work-family culture would vary according to size and type of organization, gender, and dual career partnership. The data came from 365 married full-time workers employed in a wide variety of organizations located in Seoul and GyeongGi-Do. The major findings of this study were as follows: Work-family culture was perceived more family-friendly in large-sized organizations and consumer industries. Female employees and workers in dual-career partnerships perceived the work-family culture of their organizations less family-friendly. The hierarchical multiple regression analyses revealed that firm size, supervisory support for employees' family activities, and the perception of negative career development opportunities as a consequence of utilizing family-friendly policies significantly predicted employees' work-family balance and qualities of lives, while organizational time demands having no significant effects on them. The implications of study results were discussed.

In the view of systems ecology, sustainable resource use strategies are considered to be essential in achieving sustainable development. During the last three decades, the discipline of systems ecology has applied ecological energetic analysis to the evaluation of the contribution of natural environments to economic systems. ENERGY analysis of main energy flows driving the economy of humans and life support systems of a city was made including environmental energies, fuel, and inputs, all expressed as solar emjoules. Total EMERGY use of Pusan was 3.89 E22 sej/yr, about 90 percent of it was purchased sources from outside during eleven years from 1985 to 1995. EMERGY flows from the environment were less than 10 percent. EMERGY yield ratio and environmental loading ratio were 1.10 and 10.45, respectively. EMERGY sustainability index is there(ore less than one, which is indicative of highly developed consumer oriented economies. Development of a city has been achieved in the short run by the economic growth, but it can be sustained in the long run by the use of renewable resource systems.

  • Social capital theory provides a robust framework for analyzing economic well being. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of social capital on the economic satisfaction of retirees in Korea. The data from the first wave of KLoSA(Korean Longitudinal Study of Aging) were used(n=1,628). SPSS 12.0 was used for descriptive statistics and multiple regression analysis. The major findings were as follows: First, after controlling for gender, age, region, housing tenure, and personal income, the social capital of the retirees, including cognitive social capital(trust and reciprocity) and structural social capital(emotional and economic familial support, and a well-developed social network), contributes to increases in their economic well-being. Second, the degree of effect social capital has on well-being varied by gender and age; the effect was also different according to gender, regardless of the person's age. These empirical results provide a basis for the institution of policies that help bolster economic wellbeing for retirees by creating conditions that increase social capital in this group.
