A Study of the impacts of control types on Tie strength and Project Performance - focus on field project organization of construction industry

  • In this paper, we an empirical study of the effects of control types on Tie strength and filed project performance of project participants in field project organization for Korean domestic construction industry. In the study, we try to tell what significant impact output control, process control and tie strength among field project participants have on field project performance and features unique to field project organization for Korean construction industry through empirical analysis. And the findings of the empirical analysis are that output control appeared to have significant impacts on tie strength among the participants and process control, and process control also appear to have significant impact on field project performance.

  • For the purpose of automatic management and enhancing quality of construction, information technology has been employed in construction field recently. As a consequence, informative construction, which utilizes information technology to reduce construction time and optimize construction sequence, becomes a state-of-art field of construction. Considering this case, construction field should more actively adopt other engineering technologies of rapidly advancing fields, such as electronic, control, and informative engineering, in order to reduce construction cost and to solve environmental problems as well as to enhance construction quality. In this aspect, this paper introduces a novel research field 'Geo-mechatronics', which stands for the convergence of geotechnical engineering and mechatronics (i.e. automation of mechanics using electronic technologies). Since the ground is ubiquitous in every infrastructure construction, the Geo-mechatronics research is crucial for the development of construction technology in the future. Moreover, it is believed to that the Geo-mechatronics research will make our construction industry to be more future-oriented and internationally comparative industry.

  • This paper is resulted from the research to activate Self-control Safety Management system that adopted to improve an assessment system for Hazard Prevention Plan. And members of company, university and research institute have jointly participated in the research. First, it is investigated that introduced background and processing method with existing practical data & materials references in order to understand what domestic Self-control Safety Management system will be available for. And general construction company at site have their ability to assess Hazard Prevention Plan by mailing questionnaire to on thousand site, visits, and interviews. Also, It is investigated how much they have the assessment ability. It is selected to do a questionnaire survey for the status of self-regulatory safety assessment ability of the designated self-regulatory companies in order to produce and enhance the self-regulatory assessment ability and the necessity of Self-control Safety Management system. Finally, it is selected to do a questionnaire survey for fixing and the enhance Self-control Safety Management system of general construction contractors.

  • This paper introduces model-based meta reinforcement learning as a control for the manipulator of an underwater construction robot. Model-based meta reinforcement learning updates the model fast using recent experience in a real application and transfers the model to model predictive control which computes control inputs of the manipulator to reach the target position. The simulation environment for model-based meta reinforcement learning is established using MuJoCo and Gazebo. The real environment of manipulator control for underwater construction robot is set to deal with model uncertainties.

The Variation of Benthic Macroinvertebrates Caused by Erosion Control Works in a Torrential Stream - Focused on Variation of Benthic Macroinvertebrates Analyzed immediately after Construction Works - (황폐계류의 사방공작물 시공에 따른 저서성 대형무척추동물상의 변화 - 시공 직후의 변화를 중심으로 -)

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of erosion control works on the stream ecosystem in a mountain torrential stream. The species composition of benthic macroinvertebrates and biological water quality were investigated before and after construction of erosion control works at 5 sites. The total number of benthic macroinvertebrates before construction was 3,086 individuals including 4 phyla, 6 classes, 11 orders, 22 families, and 25 species, but after construction it has decreased to 1,208 individuals including 4 phyla, 6 classes, 10 orders, 17 families, and 19 species. Especially, the diversity, richness, and evenness indices, which were calculated based on existing number of biological species, have decreased or not produced at the erosion control sites, where biological species were not found or the minimum number of species were found. The results of community analysis of benthic macroinvertebrates and ESB(Ecological Score of Benthic macroinvertebrate community) indicated that the environmental qualities of the stream based on saprobity, environmental condition, and water quality decreased after the construction at all sites: before construction, the top of the stream was satisfactory and some satisfactory, the middle was some defectiveness, and the lower was defectiveness and very defectiveness; after construction, all parts of the stream except some parts of the top were very defectiveness. Moreover, the water quality of torrential stream was rated between I to III before construction, but after construction, it declined to $IV{\sim}V$ except control. The habitat damage of benthic macro invertebrates occurred at all investigation sites after the construction of erosion control works led to reduction of the number of biological species and water quality deterioration. The results reported in this study were collected directly after the construction of erosion control works. Therefore, additional studies are needed to further explore the effect of disaster-prevention of erosion control works and the recovery process of stream ecosystem through long term monitoring.

  • EPS(Expanded Polystyrene) has been used in a variety of applications as a solution of difficult soil conditions encountered in construction activities.   • The Field Robot means the machinery applied for outdoor tasks in construction, agriculture and undersea etc. In this study, to field-robotize a hydraulic excavator that is mostly used in construction working, we developed an interfacing hardware part of stroke sensing cylinder using magnetic sensor and estimated its performance. It is illustrated by experiment that the proposed control system by stroke sensing cylinder gives good performances in the position control
