  • Gas-sensor technology for volatile organic compounds (VOC) biomarker detection offers significant advantages for noninvasive diagnostics, including rapid response time and low operational costs, exhibiting promising potential for disease diagnosis. Colorimetric gas sensors, which enable intuitive analysis of gas concentrations through changes in color, present additional benefits for the development of personal diagnostic kits. However, the traditional method of visually monitoring these sensors can limit quantitative analysis and consistency in detection threshold evaluation, potentially affecting diagnostic accuracy. To address this, we developed a machine vision platform based on metal-organic framework (MOF) for colorimetric gas sensor arrays, designed to accurately detect disease-related VOC biomarkers. This platform integrates a CMOS camera module, gas chamber, and colorimetric MOF sensor jig to quantitatively assess color changes. A specialized machine vision algorithm accurately identifies the color-change Region of Interest (ROI) from the captured images and monitors the color trends. Performance evaluation was conducted through experiments using a platform with four types of low-concentration standard gases. A limit-of-detection (LoD) at 100 ppb level was observed. This approach significantly enhances the potential for non-invasive and accurate disease diagnosis by detecting low-concentration VOC biomarkers and offers a novel diagnostic tool.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the maternal child rearing behavior, sibling relationship, and children's social adjustment in group home and original home. Subjects of this study were 159 mothers and their children in Seoul and Gyounggi-do. Mothers responded to 'Korean Maternal Behavior Inventory', 'Sibling Relationship Questionnaire' and 'Social Maturity Scale'. The collected data were analyzed by ANCOVA, Pearson's partial correlation, factor analysis, and Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ for internal consistency by SPSS PC program(10.0 version). The results were as follows; first, there was a significant difference in maternal rearing behavior between group home and original home. Original home mothers showed higher scores in reasoning guidance, affect, authoritarian control, achievement, overprotection, active involvement, and limit setting. Second, there was a significant difference in sibling relationship among two different homes. Sibling relationship in original home was more worm, intimate, and competitive. Third, there was no significant difference in social adjustment in those homes. Finally, there were different correlations among those homes. In original home, there were significant correlations between maternal rearing behavior and children's social adjustment, but there were no significant correlations between those variables.

  • The demand for the circular hollow section (CHS) has been increasing due to its structural advantage in long-span structures and high-rise buildings. There are not enough researches on the CHS structure, though. The behavior of the gusset plate CHS joint, to predict the ultimate strength, is not easy to predict because the load deflection curve does not show consistency. Therefore, in this study, experiments and finite element analysis (FEA) were carried out to determine the ultimate strength according to the proposed ultimate deformation limit. Finally, a reasonable ultimate strength formula was proposed through comparisons with other design guides.

  • This study discusses cognition as a computable mapping in cognitive system and relates G del's Incompleteness Theorems to the computability of cognition from a metamathematical perspective. Understanding cognition as a from of computation requires not only Turing machine models but also neural network models. In previous studies of computation by cognitive systems, it is remarkable to note how little serious attention has been given to the issue of computation by neural networks with respect to G del's Incompleteness Theorems. To address this problem, first, we introduce a definition of cognition and cognitive science. Second, we deal with G del's view of computability, incompleteness and speed-up theorems, and then we interpret G del's disjunction on the mind and the machine. Third, we discuss cognition as a Turing computable function and its relation to G del's incompleteness. Finally, we investigate cognition as a neural computable function and its relation to G del's incompleteness. The results show that a second-order representing system can be implemented by a finite recurrent neural network. Hence one cannot prove the consistency of such neural networks in terms of first-order theories. Neural computability, theoretically, is beyond the computational incompleteness of Turing machines. If cognition is a neural computable function, then G del's incompleteness result does not limit the compytational capability of cognition in humans or in artifacts.

  • Partial safety factors(PSFs) for Level I reliability based design of caisson type quay walls were calculated. First order reliability method(FORM) based PSFs are the functions of sensitivities of limit state function with respect to design random variables, target reliability index, characteristic values and first moment of random variables. Modified PSFs for water level and resilient water level are newly defined to keep consistency with the current design code. In the numerical example, PSFs were calculated by using a target reliability index. Seismic coefficient is defined to show extreme distribution. It was found that PSFs for seismic coefficient becomes smaller as the return period for design seismic coefficient grows longer.

  • Purpose: To solve urban problems, empirical research is being actively conducted to implement a smart city based on various ICT technologies, and digital twin technology is needed to effectively implement a smart city. A digital twin is essential for the realization of a smart city. A digital twin is a virtual environment that intuitively visualizes multidimensional data in the real world based on 3D. Digital twin is implemented on the premise of the convergence of GIS and BIM, and in particular, a lot of time is invested in data pre-processing and labeling in the data construction process. In digital twin, data quality is prioritized for consistency with reality, but there is a limit to data inspection with the naked eye. Therefore, in order to improve the required time and quality of digital twin construction, it was attempted to detect a building using Mask R-CNN, a deep learning-based masking algorithm for aerial images. If the results of this study are advanced and used to build digital twin data, it is thought that a high-quality smart city can be realized.

  • Early and accurate detection of pathogens is important to improve clinical outcomes of bloodstream infections (BSI), especially in the case of drug-resistant pathogens. In this study, we aimed to develop a culture-independent digital PCR (dPCR) system for multiplex detection of major sepsis-causing gram-negative pathogens and antimicrobial resistance genes using plasma DNA from BSI patients. Our duplex dPCR system successfully detected nine targets (five bacteria-specific targets and four antimicrobial resistance genes) through five reactions within 3 hours. The minimum detection limit was 50 ag of bacterial DNA, suggesting that 1 CFU/ml of bacteria in the blood can be detected. To validate the clinical applicability, cell-free DNA samples from febrile patients were tested with our system and confirmed high consistency with conventional blood culture. This system can support early identification of some drug-resistant gram-negative pathogens, which can help improving treatment outcomes of BSI.

  • In order to determine fragility curves, the limit state of piers for each damage level is suggested in this paper based on the previous test results in Korea, including our test results. In previous studies, the quantitative measures for damage levels of piers have been represented by curvature ductility, lateral drift ratio, or displacement ductility. These measures are transformed to lateral drift ratios of piers for consistency, and the transformed values are compared and verified with our push-over test results for flexural RC piers with a circular cross-section. The test specimens are categorized concerning the number of lap-splices in the plastic hinge region and whether seismic design codes are satisfied or not. Based on the collected test results in Korea, including ours, the lateral drift ratio for each pier damage level is suggested.

  • This study aimed to develop a VR-based digital therapeutic intervention for the diagnosis and treatment of ADHD. The research combined medical data with virtual reality technology to develop an algorithm for ADHD diagnostic scales and implemented a VR-based digital therapeutic platform using a head-mounted display (HMD). This platform can be used for the diagnosis and treatment of ADHD in children and adolescents. Additionally, we four VR games were developed, including archery timing, Antarctic exploration, grocery shopping, and rhythm-based drumming(RBD), incorporating various psychiatric treatment techniques based on cognitive-behavioral therapy(CBT). To evaluate the usability of this digital therapeutic intervention, a group of experts specialized in counseling psychology participated in the study. The evaluations received highly positive feedback regarding the ability to access the system menu while wearing the HMD, the consistency of terminology used in menus and icons, the usage of actual size for 3D graphic elements, and the support for shortcut key functionality. The assessments also indicated that the games could improve attention, working memory, and impulse control, suggesting potential therapeutic effects for ADHD. This intervention could provide a daily treatment method for families experiencing financial constraints that limit hospital-based therapies, thereby reducing the burden.
