  • Numerical analysis of the laminar natural convection in an enclosure of the 20KVA oil-immeresed transformer is presented. The core in the transformer is modelled as a rectangular cylinder and calculation is carried out for $Ra=10^3-10^6$. The correlating equation between the inner cylinder mean Nusselt numbers and Rayleigh numbers can be obtained. The conduction and convection regimes for the variation of Rayleigh numbers are well represented in the temperature distributions along the side wall of the inner cylinder. For high Rayleigh numbers, it is found that the recirculating flow in the enclosure above the inner cylinder is divided into two recirculation regions.

  • For generation and analysis of the multi-sensory image, we propose a new three dimensional (3D) modeling method considering an iternal heat source. We represent the heat conduction process within th object as an equivalent thermal circuit. Therefore, without a complex computation, our modeling approach can obtain thermal features of the object. By using the faceted model, the proposed method can express the accurate visual signatures of the object. Comparing the estimates datum with the obtained surface temperatures, we have demonstrated that the proposed method can provide a precise thermal features. The thermal images by out model is applicable to simulate a tracking loop of an IR missile.

  • The precise and reliable loss model for induction motor and converter system is very important in order to predict the efficiency performance of variable speed drives. This paper proposes an accurate loss model of induction motor and converter system. The motor losses, such as stator and rotor copper loss, core loss and stray loss, are considered for fundamental and harmonic frequencies. Also considered are the skin effect on rotor resistance, temperature effect on bath stator and rotor resistance, magnetizing inductance saturation, and friction and windage loss. All the above features are incorporated in a synchronous frame dynamic d-q equivalent circuit. The converter system, consisting of a diode rectifier and PWM transistor inverter, is modeled accurately for conduction and switching losses. Validity of the models, in both steady state and transient conditions, is verified by simulations.

  • The brake force of drum brakes for commercial vehicles is applied by a s-cam. First of all the influence of the s-cam load angles and elastic modulus of the pad on the contact pressure distribution between pad and drum was checked by using 3 dimensional finite element model. In the second part, temperature and thermal stress analyses were carried out by an axisymmetric model with constant heat flux and pressure-proportional heat flux. In the case of temperature analysis the heat conduction from the interface to the pad and the drum was modeled using a thin soft film element, so artificial division of the generated heat flux between pad and drum is not necessary. The analysis was performed by ABAQUS/Standard code.

  • A mathematical model of electro-thermoelasticity has been constructed in the context of a new consideration of heat conduction with memory-dependent derivative. The governing coupled equations with time-delay and kernel function, which can be chosen freely according to the necessity of applications, are applied to several concrete problems. The exact solutions for all fields are obtained in the Laplace transform domain for each problem. According to the numerical results and its graphs, conclusion about the proposed model has been constructed. The predictions of the theory are discussed and compared with dynamic classical coupled theory. The result provides a motivation to investigate conducting thermoelectric viscoelastic materials as a new class of applicable materials.

  • Cross regulation is a key technical issue of single-inductor multiple-output (SIMO) DC-DC converters. This paper investigates the cross regulation in single-inductor dual-output (SIDO) Buck converters with continuous conduction mode (CCM) operation. The expressions of the DC voltage gain, control to the output transfer function, cross regulation transfer function, cross coupled transfer function and impedance transfer function of the converter are presented by the time averaging equivalent circuit approach. A small signal model of a SIDO CCM Buck converter is built to analyze this cross regulation. The laws of cross regulation with respect to various load conditions are investigated. Simulation and experiment results verify the theoretical analysis. This study will be helpful for converter design to reduce the cross regulation. In addition, a control strategy to reduce cross regulation is performed.

  • To optimize the design and operation of a soil- air heat exchanger system, the effects of variables characterizing system design and operation on the performance of the system were analyzed by a theoretical model which included the three-dimensional transient heat conduction equation. The solution of the theoretical model was acquired by a computer program that uses Finite Difference Methods and Gauss-Seidel iteration computation, in which the time discretization scheme was an implicit difference appoximation. The computer program was validated first by comparison of the results for different grid sizes. Air outlet temperature, energy gain, and heat exchange efficiency of the system were analyzed based upon the tube diameter, tube length, tube thickness, and tube thermal diffusivity.

  • This paper investigate the effects of the variations of engine operation condition in the flame kernel formation and developmnet . A model for calculating the initial kernel development in spark ignition engines is formualted. It considered input of electrical energy, combustion energy release and heat transfer to the spark plyg, cylinder head, and unburned mixture. The model also takes into accounts strain rate of initial kernel and residual gas fraction. The breakdown process and the subsequent electrical power input initially control the kernel growth while intermediate growth is mainly dominated by diffusion or conduction. Then, the flame propagates by the chemical energy and turbulent flame expansion. Flame kernel development also influenced by engine operating conditions, for example, EGR rate, air-fuel ration and intake manifold pressure.

  • In order to evaluate the performance of ground heat source in thermal labyrinth on pre-heating in winter season and pre-cooling in summer season, the followings are made as a conclusion through case study of H project by using the weather data from Korea meteorological administration and CFD model. By making outdoor air inlet via ground heat source in thermal labyrinth for conduction, convection and etc., the temperature rise is $13.4^{\circ}C$as the effect of pre-heating in winter season. On the other hand, as the effect of pre-cooling in summer season, the temperature decrease is $7.2^{\circ}C$. The energy saving rate by the application of ground heat source in thermal labyrinth is 9.1%.

  • The performance evaluation technique of a heat exchanger is described by using a transient response analysis for the determination of an average heat transfer coefficient. The model using a finite difference method can accommodate arbitrary inlet fluid temperature as well as longitudinal conduction. Temperature histories are obtained from the experiments at the inlet and outlet of test core. Heat transfer coefficient and friction factor of the plate array are obtained in short times using the data reduction program of transient response analysis in the single-blow method. The results agree very well with theoretical results. It is shown that the rms deviations are very small and the performance evaluation technique gives rapid and accurate results.
