  • This paper presents the optimal design method of the train repair facility based on the simulation analysis. The train is divided into the power car, motorized car and passenger car for the simulation process analysis and train repair facility is composed of each subsystems such as a blast, dry and wash workshop. In simulation analysis, we consider the critical (dependent) factors and design (independent) factors for the optimal design. Therefore, a simulation optimization uses Evolution Strategy (ES) in order to find the optimal design factors. Experimental results indicate that simulation design factors are sufficient to satisfy the conditions of dependent variables. The proposed analysis method demonstrates that simulation design factors determined by the simulation optimization are appropriate for real design factors in a real situation and the accuracy and confidence for the simulation results are increased.

  • For polyhydroxyalkanoic acid (PHA) production, several microorganisms were isolated from sewage sludge. One of them, GB-77 strain, was chosen from its PHB/HV copolymer production on only fructose without cosubstrate. The isolated strain GB-77 was identified as the genus Alcaligenes. Optimal temperature and pH for cell growth were 36C and 6.8. Optimal medium composition was 10 g/l of fructose and 5 g/l of polypeptone, 1 $\times$ 10$^{-2}$M Na$^{2}$HP0$^{4}$, 1.3 $\times$ 10$^{-2}$M KH$^{2}$PO$^{4}$. To investigate the optimal condition for polyhydroxyalkanoic acid production two-stage culture technique was used; first stage for cell growth and second stage for PHA production on unbalanced growth conditions. Optimal conditions for high PHA production were C/N ratio 50, temperature 36$\circ$C and pH 6.8. To overcome fructose inhibition on cell growth, intermittent feeding fed-batch culture technique was used. Total cell concentration was 17.4 g/l with 9.1 g/l of PHA. The purified PHA was identified PHB/HV copolymer by NMR analysis.

  • In the online shopping environment, consumers suffer from the process of selecting an optimal supplier. Although comparison shopping agent-based web sites and consumers' online community sites support the selection process, they have limitations when considering diverse and dynamic purchase conditions as a whole, which is the cause of additional consumer effort for optimal supplier selection. This study provides a decision support model with a sensitivity analysis for selecting an optimal supplier considering purchase conditions as a whole. It screens suppliers with filtering factors and provides optimal suppliers through a sensitivity analysis from a Quadratic Programming model. We implemented a prototype system and showed that it could be an effective decision support system for selecting the optimal supplier in the online shopping environment.

  • The high grade thick plate is in great demand in the ship building industry and the construction industry. The main problems to produce the high grade plate are residual stress and flatness of plate. In the previous research, Finite Element Analysis(FEA) was conducted for cold roller leveler to understand the behaviors of cold roller leveler under different conditions of thickness, intermesh, and yield stress. In this study, a numerical model of roller leveler is developed and the calculated results of this model are compared with the FEA results to show the validity of the numerical model. The optimal leveling conditions to improve flatness of plate are suggested using this numerical model.

  • This study evaluated the effects of culture conditions, including carbon and nitrogen sources, L-monosodium glutamate (MSG), and initial pH, on gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) production by Lactobacillus brevis HYE1 isolated from kimchi, a Korean traditional fermented food. L. brevis HYE1 was screened by the production analysis of GABA and genetic analysis of the glutamate decarboxylase gene, resulting in 14.64 mM GABA after 48 h of cultivation in MRS medium containing 1% (w/v) MSG. In order to increase GABA production by L. brevis HYE1, the effects of carbon and nitrogen sources on GABA production were preliminarily investigated via one-factor-at-a-time optimization strategy. As the results, 2% maltose and 3% tryptone were determined to produce 17.93 mM GABA in modified MRS medium with 1% (w/v) MSG. In addition, the optimal MSG concentration and initial pH were determined to be 1% and 5.0, respectively, resulting in production of 18.97 mM GABA. Thereafter, response surface methodology (RSM) was applied to determine the optimal conditions of the above four factors. The results indicate that pH was the most significant factor for GABA production. The optimal culture conditions for maximum GABA production were also determined to be 2.14% (w/v) maltose, 4.01% (w/v) tryptone, 2.38% (w/v) MSG, and an initial pH of 4.74. In these conditions, GABA production by L. brevis HYE1 was predicted to be 21.44 mM using the RSM model. The experiment was performed under these optimized conditions, resulting in GABA production of 18.76 mM. These results show that the predicted and experimental values of GABA production are in good agreement.

  • Highly informative admissible heuristics can help to conduct more efficient search for optimal solutions. However, in general, more informative ones of heuristics from planning problems requires lots of computational effort. To address this problem, we propose an Delete Relaxation based Action Costs-based Planning Graph(ACPG) and Action Costs-based Heuristics for solving optimal planning problems more efficiently. The ACPG is an extended one to be applied to can find action costs between subgoal & goal conditions from the Relaxed Planning Graph(RPG) which is a common means to get heuristics for solving the planning problems, Action Costs-based Heuristics utilizing ACPG can find action costs difference between subgoal & goal conditions in an effective way, and then consider them to estimate the goal distance. In this paper, we present the heuristics algorithm to compute Action Costs-based Heuristics, and then explain experimental analysis to investigate the efficiency and the accuracy of the Action Costs-based Heuristics.

  • Semi dry cutting known as MQL (Minimum Quantity Lubrication) machining is widely spreaded into the machining shops nowadays. The objective of this research is to suggest how to derive optimum cutting conditions for the milling process in MQL machining. To reach these goals, a bunch of finish milling experiments was carried out while varying cutting speed, feed rate, oil quantity, depth of cut and so on with MQL. Then, response surface analysis was introduced for the variance analysis and the regression model with the experimental data. Finally, desirability function based on regression model was used to obtain optimal cutting parameters and verification experiment was done.

  • A method is developed to evaluate machining process and to determine the optimal machining conditions considering the environmental effects. The method Is based on the evaluation attributes from the general LCA programs and the analysis technique of AHP from HHS. To assist the analysis. the mass models of cutting energy, tools, and fluids are developed. The models may be used for both quantitative prediction of the uses and disposed masses of materials and optimization of the machining conditions. The algorithm with the mass models is applied to the milling process planning. The process to survey the environmental data, calculate the used mass, and evaluate the alternatives is demonstrated. This demonstration illustrates the of the change of process conditions of the decision making.

  • In this paper, we study the distributed optimal control problem of a coupled system of the host-pathogen model. The system consists of the density of the susceptible host, the density of the infected host, and the density of pathogen particles. Our main goal is to minimize the infected density and also to decrease the cost of the drugs administered. First, we prove the existence and uniqueness of solutions for the proposed problem. Then, the existence of the optimal control is established and necessary optimality conditions are also derived.

  • The main objective of the study is to offer some basic information in relation to optimal shape and dimensions of the rotating band through the development of three-dimensional finite element method for metal forming analysis of the rotating band whose primary function is to impart spin to the projectile. The three-dimensional metal forming analysis of the rotating band has perfor-med by using recurrent boundary conditions. Such design factors as the outside diameter the total length and the profile of the rotating band must be considered carefully in order to design an optimal rotating band. Above design factors can be determined from such available analysis results as the deformed shape and the deformation load. of the rotating band and the normal pressure of the rotating band on a projectile shell. The remeshings are needed to carry out plastic deformation analysis with severe deformation through which the complete process analysis gets possible. The results can be utilized effectively in determining the optimal shape and size of the rotating band.
