  • As passive safety features for nuclear power plants receive increasing attention, various studies have been conducted to develop safety systems for 3rd-generation (GEN-III) nuclear power plants that are driven by passive systems. The Passive Auxiliary Feedwater System (PAFS) is one of several passive safety systems being designed for the Advanced Power Reactor Plus (APR+), and extensive studies are being conducted to complete its design and to verify its feasibility. Because the PAFS removes decay heat from the reactor core under transient and accident conditions, it is necessary to evaluate the heat removal capability of the PAFS under hypothetical accident conditions. The heat removal capability of the PAFS is strongly dependent on the heat transfer at the condensate tube in Passive Condensation Heat Exchanger (PCHX). To evaluate the model of heat transfer coefficient for condensation, the Multi-dimensional Analysis of Reactor Safety (MARS) code is used to simulate the experimental results from PAFS Condensing Heat Removal Assessment Loop (PASCAL). The Shah model, a default model for condensation heat transfer coefficient in the MARS code, under-predicts the experimental data from the PASCAL. To improve the calculation result, The Thome model and the new version of the Shah model are implemented and compared with the experimental data.

  • The inhibition effect of flavone and butylatedhydroxyanisole (BHA) on the microsomal activation of Cigarette Smoke Condensate (CSC) or its Neutral Portion (NP) was investigated in Rat. The activities of Latic acid dehydrogenase (LDH) in serum was measured in the time intervals of 3, 6, 12, 18, 24 and 30 hr, respectively, after the injection (ip) of CSC (5mg/kg) or NP (10mg/kg) to Wistar male rat. Flavone (1mg/kg) and BHA (1mg/kg) were injected along with CSC or NP. The significant enhancement of the LDH activity in serum was observed in both cases of rats treated with CSC and NP. A drastic decrease of LDH activity from 1040 unit to 641 unit was observed after 12 hours of injection of CSC along with flavone. In contrast with the case of flavone, BHA reduced the enzyme activity from 825 unit to 652 unit at the same condition of flavone. Therefore, flavone can be considered to be a better inhibitor on action of CSC in vivo.

  • Humidity control of proton exchange membrane fuel cell(PEMFC) is very important control condition during driving. In terms of water management, low humidification conditions are advantageous, and high humidification is advantageous in terms of drainage utilization and energy efficiency. In this study, the characteristics of outlet water in low humidification and high humidification process were studied in terms of utilization of discharged water. Since the impurities in the effluent are generated during the degradation of the membrane and the electrode assembly(MEA), degradation of the MEA under low humidification and high humidification conditions was also studied. The rate of radical generation was high at low humidification condition of the anode RH 0%, which showed that it was the main cause of the degradation of the polymer membrane. Analysis of effluent showed low concentration of fluoride ion concentration of about 20 ppb at high humidification (both electrodes RH 100%) and 0.6 V, which was enough to be used as the feed water for electrolysis. Very low concentration of platinum below 0.2 ppb was detected in the condensate discharged from the high humidification condition.

  • Two phase boundary layer equations of laminar filmwise condensation are solved by an approximate integral method under the following condition; saturated vapour flows vertically downward over a cooled surface of uniform temperature, the condensate film is so thin that the inertia and convection terms are neglected. The following conclusions are drawn under the above assumptions. 1. free convection In case of the linear temperature profile in a liquid film, numerical results for the average coefficients of heat transfer may be expressed as N $u_{m}$=4/3,(G $r_{l}$ /4.H)$^{1}$4/ and in case of the quadratic profile, numerical results may be expressed as N $u_{m}$=2/1.682,(G $r_{l}$ /H)$^{1}$4/. 2. Forced convection When the temperature profile is assumed to be linear in a liquid film, numerical results fir the average heat transfer coefficients may be expressed as N $u_{m}$=(A, R $e_{l}$ /H)$^{1}$2/. This expression is compared with the experimental results hitherto reported; For theoretical Nusselt number (N $u_{m}$)$_{th}$<2*10$^{4}$, the experimental Nusselt number (N $u_{m}$)$_{exp}$ is on the average larger than theoretical Nusselt number (N $u_{m}$)$_{th}$ by 30%. For (N $u_{m}$)$_{th}$>2*10$^{4}$, experimental Nusselt number (N $u_{m}$)$_{exp}$ is about 1.6 times as large as theoretical Nusselt number (N $u_{m}$)$_{th}$. These large deviation may be caused by the presence of turbulence in the liquid film. In case of the quadratic temperature profile in a liquid film, numerical results for the average coefficients of heat transfer may be expressed as N $u_{m}$'=(2,A,Re/H)$^{1}$2/. This formular shows that theoretical Nusselt number (N $u_{m}$)$_{th}$ is larger than experimental Nusselt number (N $u_{m}$)$_{exp}$ by 60%. It is speculated that when the temperature difference between cooled surface and saturated vapour is small, temperature profile in a liquid film is quadratic.quadratic.. quadratic.quadratic..atic..

  • The local heat transfer coefficient is experimentally investigated for the reflux condensation in a countercurrent flow between the steam-air mixture and the condensate. A single vertical tube has a geometry which is a length of 2.4m, inner diameter of 16.56mm and outer diameter of 19.05mm and is made of stainless steel. Air is used as a noncondensible gas. The secondary side is installed in the form of coolant block around vertical tube and the heat by primary condensation is transferred to the coolant water. The local temperatures are measured at 15 locations in the vertical direction and each location has 3 measurement points in the radial direction, which are installed at the tube center, at the outer wall and at the coolant side. In three different pressures, the 27 sets of data are obtained in the range of inlet steam flow rate 1.348 -3.282kg/hr, of inlet air mass fraction 11.8 -55.0%. The local heat transfer coefficient increases as the increase of inlet steam flow rate and decreases as the decrease of inlet air mass fraction. As an increase of the system pressure, the active condensing region is contracted and the heat transfer capability in this region is magnified. The empirical correlation is developed represented with the 165 sets of local heat transfer data. As a result, the Jacob number and film Reynolds number are dominant parameters to govern the local heat transfer coefficient. The rms error is 17. 7% between the results by the experiment and by the correlation.

  • In the previous study, naphthalene and /or naphthol were sulfonated wlth sulfuric acid and they were condensated with formaldehyde. The condensates prepared are subjected to the flow and strength tests of cement rnortnr to examine the chemcal effects of cement adrnlxtures. As the results of flow test, the flow of cement mortar mxed wth naphthol condensates(TSC) and naphthol naphthalene cocondensates( NT5) was larger than those mxed with synthetic naphtha lene condensate (NSS). In the experiments of compressive strength after 28 days curing, the hardned cement mortar containing naphthalene naphthol condensates(N1'5) showed a higher compressive strength than those contairung naphthalene condensates(NSS) and naphthol condensates('I'SC). As a results, the synthetic naphthalene condensates(NT5, TSC 1, whlch used i n this study, are greatly expected as good superplasticizers for the concrete.

  • This study is the analysis of causes of printed circuit board (PCB) in collective protection equipment failure and quality improvement. The equipment is a component of the weapon system currently in operation and serves to defend against enemy chemical and biological attack as well as heating and cooling functions. However, during operation in the military, fans of condensate assembly failed to operate. The cause of the failure is the burning of PCB. It was found that the parts were heated according to the continuous cooling operation under the high temperature environmental conditions. Accordingly, the electronic components exposed to high temperature were deteriorated and destroyed. To solve this problem, PCB apply to heatsink. The performance test of improved PCB has been completed. Futhermore system compatibility, positive pressure maintenance and noise test were performed. This improvement confirmed that no faults have occurred in PCB so far. Therefore, the quality of the equipment has improved.

  • A deep understanding of the characteristics and mechanism of geyser boiling and capillary pumping is necessary to optimize a high-temperature sodium heat pipe. In this work, the Volume of Fluid (VOF) two-phase model and the capillary force model in the mesh wick were used to model the complex phase change and fluid flow in the heat pipe. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations successfully predicted the process of bubble nucleation, growth, aggregation, and detachment from the wall in the liquid pool of the evaporation section of the heat pipe in horizontal and tilted states, as well as the reflux phenomenon of capillary suction within the wick. The accuracy and stability of the capillary force model within the wick were verified. In addition, the causes of geyser boiling in heat pipes were analyzed by extracting the oscillation distribution of heat pipe wall temperature. The results show that adding the capillary force model within the wick structure can reasonably simulate the liquid backflow phenomenon at the condensation; Under the horizontal and inclined operating conditions of the heat pipe, the phenomenon of local dry-out will occur, resulting in a sharp increase in local temperature. The speed of bubble detachment and the timely reflux of liquid sodium (condensate) replenishment in the wick play a vital role in the geyser temperature oscillation of the tube wall. The numerical simulation method and the results of this study are anticipated to provide a good reference for the investigation of geyser boiling in high-temperature heat pipes.

  • Solvent-free low foaming scouring agents(LFSA) were prepared by blending of polyoxyethylene(30) octadecylbenzylammonium chloride(POAC), block copolymer of propylene oxide-ethylene oxide[p(PO-b-EO) glycol], Sedlan FF-200(FF-200) and sulfonic acid-amine condensate of polyoxyethylene(10) nonylphenyl ether(PSAC). In consequence of several tests, FF-200/POAC/p(PO-b-EO) glycol/PSAC/water (20g/10g/5g/5g/60g) mixture (LFSA-5) showed good cleaning power, penetrating ability, emulsifiability and stability to alkali, and gave less problem in water pollution. Scouring effect of LFSA-5 was investigated by the change of percentage of exhaustion before and after scouring at various dyeing temperatures. The percentage of exhaustion of the unscoured PET fabric was 4.5% at $70^{\circ}C$, while that scoured with LFSA-5 was 1.3% at the same temperature, which proved LFSA-5 to be a good scouring agent. Moreover, the foaming power of LFSA-5 measured by Ross and Miles method was 6mm foam height immediately after foaming, and that measured by Ross and Clark method was less than 300mm foam height at $30^{\circ}C$, and 20mm at $80^{\circ}C$. As a result, LFSA-5 proved a good low foaming scouring agent.
