  • Some recent researches reported that high temperature rising decreases the carbonation depth of concrete, which is contrary to the previous research results. Carbonation has been known as a reaction between calcium hydroxide and carbon dioxide. But a few researches showed that the other cement hydrates as well as calcium hydroxide react with carbon dioxide. This paper investigates the influence of temperature on carbonation and the variation of $Ca(OH)_2$ and $CaCO_3$ by carbonation. In order to estimate the carbonation depth and the quantities of reactant and product of carbonation reaction, phenolphthalein testing and thermagravimetric analyzer test were conducted. The measurement of carbonation depth with temperature showed that the temperature increase from $20^{\circ}C$ to $30^{\circ}C$C in carbonation environment makes the carbonation depth larger, but the increase from $30^{\circ}C$ to $40^{\circ}C$ has a small influence on the carbonation depth. Comparing calcium hydroxide and calcium carbonate with temperature, the quantity of $CaCO_3$ of specimen carbonated at $30^{\circ}C$ is greater than that of specimen carbonated at $40^{\circ}C$ and the quantity of $Ca(OH)_2$ of specimen carbonated at $30^{\circ}C$ is similar to that of specimen carbonated at $40^{\circ}C$. This observation shows that there is the optimum temperature increasing carbonation depth and the optimum temperature is close to $30^{\circ}C$.

  • The high rising building construction makes increasing the requirement of high strength concrete. Especially, the workability analysis is related with dispersion of admixture such as SF for improving strength and FA, BS for reducing construction cost and improving durability of Ultra High Strength Concrete which has over 100 MPa of compressive strength is very important. Precisely, decreases dispersion because of lumping situation of each admixture and it causes the workability of admixture is decreased. Therefore, the workability of cement paste is tested for analyze effects of pre-mixed cement for solving those problems with it to this research. The summary of the results are like below. First of all, OBS is increasing workability more than OFS. This result causes that the glassy surface of BS in the OBS is increasing workability and the absorption of admixture of FA in the OFS is decreasing workability. In the case of mixing methods, pre-mixing method is increasing workability more than normal one. This result shows that the normal mixing method is bad dispersion of binders. The other side, the pre-mixing method is good. Furthermore, depending on the mixing time, according to the increasing mixing time such as 30, 60, and 120 seconds, the dispersion of binders and workability turns better.

  • PCT (Power Cable Tunnel) and UT (Utility Tunnel), which are non-transport underground infrastructures, are mostly RC (Reinforced Concrete) structures, and their durability decreases due to the deterioration caused by carbonation over time. In particular, since the rate of carbonation varies by use and region, a predictive model based on actual carbonation data is required for individual maintenance. In this study, a carbonation prediction model was developed for non-transport underground infrastructures, such as PCT and UT. A carbonation prediction model was developed using multiple regression analysis and deep neural network techniques based on the actual data obtained from a safety inspection. The structures, region, measurement location, construction method, measurement member, and concrete strength were selected as independent variables to determine the dependent variable carbonation rate coefficient in multiple regression analysis. The adjusted coefficient of determination (Ra2) of the multiple regression model was found to be 0.67. The coefficient of determination (R2) of the model for predicting the carbonation of non-transport underground infrastructures using a deep neural network was 0.82, which was superior to the comparative prediction model. These results are expected to help determine the optimal timing for repair on carbonation and preventive maintenance methodology for PCT and UT.

  • Precast concrete (PC) structure is one of the type of the structures which is made in a facility prior to installing it to a construction field. The contact surfaces between two PC structures should be treated for obtaining enough binding force by inducing prestressing force. However, in the many cases, the contact surface causes the crack and leakage of water. These cracks and water leakage can cause the corrosion of the rebar, and the corrosion of the rebar can severely reduce the long-term durability. In this study, the SMA wire connector is suggested to solve the problem with the contact surfaces between two PC structures. The pull-out resistance of the suggested SMA wire connector is evaluated by conducting the tests to find the effect of the number of wires, shape of connector part, and shape memory effect. As a result of this study, the empirical formula is suggested to estimate the pull-out resistance related with the effects of the shape of the connector, shape memory effect, and the adhesive force. The validity between the estimated pull-out resistance and the measured value is confirmed.

  • In the case of precise safety inspection and precise safety diagnosis of a building, a condition evaluation must be conducted to determine the safety grade. Since 2004, an evaluation method using fuzzy theory has been introduced for quantitative condition evaluation, and the relationship and importance of reinforced concrete members using fuzzy theory have been applied. Generally, fuzzy theory is a method used to deal with ambiguous expressions with unclear correlations, but at the time of development, it seems that it was developed by applying fuzzy theory as an alternative in a situation where inspection and diagnosis result data were insufficient. Therefore, it is necessary to verify the relationship and importance of evaluation items derived based on the current fuzzy theory using actual inspection and diagnosis result data.In this study, the correlation between the evaluation items was derived by using the results of 19 precision safety inspections and 9 precision safety inspections and the performance score function formula, and using this, a reasonable durability score calculation formula of the member was presented.

  • In this study, as the preliminary research on the development of heating concrete members, compressive strength and accelerated chloride diffusion behavior in the mortar specimens containing C12A7 based binder and anhydrite was evaluated. Also, the effect of the mixing ratio of the citric acid based retarder was quantitatively evaluated by considering 4 levels of mixing cases. The compressive strength tests of the mortar specimen were performed referred to KS L ISO 679, and the accelerated chloride diffusion tests were performed according to NT BUILD 492 and ASTM C 1202. In the mortar with 0.3 % of retarder, the highest compressive strength was evaluated, which showed the strength development ratio of 127.6 % compared to the control case. It was considered that engineering performance was improved by effectively securing setting and curing time with 0.3 % of citric acid based retarder. As the result of the evaluation of the passed charge and the accelerated chloride diffusion coefficient, the evaluation results had similar behavior with the results of compressive strength. According to the previous study, the strength behavior and the chloride diffusion behavior had a linear relationship. The mixture showing the highest strength performance had the highest durability performance for chloride ingress, and the heating concrete development from this study will be performed in the future.

  • It is well known that cracks in concrete decrease permeability and durability of concrete because cracks enhance the penetration of water or corrosive chemicals like as chlorides, carbon dioxides, sulfates and some others. But some of cracks in hardened cements may be sealed in case of contacting water. This phenomenon is called "self healing" and it has a close relation to hydration products newly formed on surfaces of cracks. Many studies on self healing in concretes commonly showed that CSH gel has been observed on crack surfaces. And some studies have reported that calcium hydroxides and ettringite were observed as well as CSH gel on crack surfaces. This study was carried out to investigate hydration products formed by self healing process and also examine the influence of waterproof admixture for concretes on self healing of cement. As a result of XRD, DSC, SEM and EDX analysis of crack surfaces, it was found that self healing of cement was related to CSH gel, calcium hydroxides and ettringite. And waterproof admixture increased fibrous (needle-like) hydration products which were in network form. It is estimated that such fibrous products are effective for self healing process of cement system.

  • State assessment of an operational tunnel is usually done by performing visual inspection and durability tests by following the detailed guideline for safety inspection (SI) and/ or precision inspection for safety and diagnosis (PISD). In this study, 12 NATM tunnels, which have been operational for more than 10 years, were inspected to figure out the cause of longitudinal cracks for the purpose of modifying the scoring items in the state assessment NATM tunnel related to the longitudinal crack and the thickness of concrete lining. All investigated tunnels were classified into four groups depending on the shape and usage of each tunnel. The causes of longitudinal crack occurrence were analyzed by investigating the correlations between the longitudinal crack and the following four factors: the patterns of ground excavation; construction state of primary support system; characteristics of material properties of the concrete lining; and thickness of lining which was obtained by Ground Penetration Radar (GPR) tests. It was found that influencing factors causing longitudinal cracks in the lining were closely related with the construction condition of the primary support system, i.e. shotcrete, rockbolt, and steel-rib; crack occurrences were not much affected by the excavation patterns. As for the properties of concrete lining materials, occurrence of the longitudinal crack was mostly affected by the following three items: w/c ratio; contents of cement; and strength of lining. When estimating the lining thickness of the concrete lining by GPR tests and taking thickness effect into account in the statement assessment, it was concluded that increase of the index score by an average of 0.03 (ranging from 0.01 up to 0.071) is needed; a more realistic way of state assessment should be proposed in which the increased index score caused by lack of lining thickness should be taken into account.

  • The purpose of this study is to assess a fire-damaged concrete structure using a digital camera and image processing software. To simulate it, mortar and paste samples of W/C=0.5(general strength) and 0.3(high strength) were put into an electric furnace and simulated from $100^{\circ}C$ to $1000^{\circ}C$. Here, the paste was processed into a powder to measure CIELAB chromaticity, and the samples were taken with a digital camera. The RGB chromaticity was measured by color intensity analyzer software. As a result, the residual compressive strength of W/C=0.5 and 0.3 was 87.2 % and 86.7 % at the heating temperature of $400^{\circ}C$. However there was a sudden decrease in strength at the temperature above $500^{\circ}C$, while the residual compressive strength of W/C=0.5 and 0.3 was 55.2 % and 51.9 % of residual strength. At the temperature $700^{\circ}C$ or higher, W/C=0.5 and W/C=0.3 show 26.3% and 27.8% of residual strength, so that the durability of the structure could not be secured. The results of $L^*a^*b$ color analysis show that $b^*$ increases rapidly after $700^{\circ}C$. It is analyzed that the intensity of yellow becomes strong after $700^{\circ}C$. Further, the RGB analysis found that the histogram kurtosis and frequency of Red and Green increases after $700^{\circ}C$. It is analyzed that number of Red and Green pixels are increased. Therefore, it is deemed possible to estimate the degree of damage by checking the change in yellow($b^*$ or R+G) when analyzing the chromaticity of the fire-damaged concrete structures.
