On a Distribution-Free Test for Parallelism of Regression Lines Against Ordered Alternatives

  • A distribution-free rank test for parallelism of regression lines against ordered alternatives is considered. The proposed test statistic is based on the Kepner-Robinson's transformation. The null distribution of the proposed statistic is the same as that of the Wilcoxon signed rank statistic. But, the proposed procedure can be applied only to four or fewer regression lines. The results of a small-sample Monte Carlo study show that the proposed test is comparable with the parametric test in heavy tailed distributions.

  • 컴퓨터 분야에서 에이전트의 개념은 전자 상거래, 정보 검색과 같은 많은 어플리케이션들에 응용되어 중요 시 되고 있다. 하지만, 아직까지 지능성을 가진 테스트 도구는 없었다. 이 논문에서 제안하는 테스트 에이전트 시스템은 에이전트의 특성을 가지고 테스터를 도와주는 테스트 도구이다. 테스트 에이전트 시스템은 객체지향 테스트 프로세스를 따라 테스터의 일을 대행해 주고, 테스터의 간섭을 최소화 시켜 준다. 이 시스템은 자동 생성된 많은 양의 테스트케이스에서 중복이 없고 일관성 있는 테스트케이스를 지능적으로 선택하여 테스트 시간을 단축시켜 준다. 테스트 에이전트 시스템은 3개의 에이전트 User Interface Agent, Test Case Selection & Testing Agent, Regression Test Agent로 구성된다. 특히 Test Case Selection & Testing Agent은 RE-Rule과 CTS-Rule을 통하여 중복이 없고 일관성 있는 테스트케이스를 지능적으로 선택하며, Regression Test Agent는 RRTIS-Rule을 통해 리그래션 테스트 항목을 지능적으로 선택한다.

Robust Person Identification Using Optimal Reliability in Audio-Visual Information Fusion

  • Identity recognition in real environment with a reliable mode is a key issue in human computer interaction (HCI). In this paper, we present a robust person identification system considering score-based optimal reliability measure of audio-visual modalities. We propose an extension of the modified reliability function by introducing optimizing parameters for both of audio and visual modalities. For degradation of visual signals, we have applied JPEG compression to test images. In addition, for creating mismatch in between enrollment and test session, acoustic Babble noises and artificial illumination have been added to test audio and visual signals, respectively. Local PCA has been used on both modalities to reduce the dimension of feature vector. We have applied a swarm intelligence algorithm, i.e., particle swarm optimization for optimizing the modified convection function's optimizing parameters. The overall person identification experiments are performed using VidTimit DB. Experimental results show that our proposed optimal reliability measures have effectively enhanced the identification accuracy of 7.73% and 8.18% at different illumination direction to visual signal and consequent Babble noises to audio signal, respectively, in comparison with the best classifier system in the fusion system and maintained the modality reliability statistics in terms of its performance; it thus verified the consistency of the proposed extension.

Application of Programming based TPACK Education Program to Increase TPACK of Pre-service Teachers

  • This study verified the effects that a programming-based TPACK education program, through design-based research on TPACK, had on pre-service teachers. The research subjects were pre-service teachers attending teacher training at a university in Korea, and 129 control groups and 126 experimental groups were recruited through lectures. The treatment used a TPACK educational program developed in a design-based study (Kim & Lee, 2019). A TPACK test tool developed by Park and Kang (2014) was used. The test results were analyzed via independent sample t-test and paired sample t-test. The results show that the programming-based TPACK education program (first cycle) was only effective in improving TPK and TPACK, but an effective educational program was developed to improve PCK, TCK, TK (second cycle), PK (third cycle), and CK (final cycle). This design-based research therefore confirmed the development of a programming-based TPACK education program that was effective for improving the TPACK of pre-service teachers.

  • Cutting tool life monitoring is a critical element needed for designing unmanned machining systems. This paper describes a tool wear measurement system using computer vision which repeatedly measures flank and crater wear of a single point cutting tool. This direct tool wear measurement method is based on an interactive procedure utilizing a image processor and multi-vision sensors. A measurement software calcultes 7 parameters to characterize flank and crater wear. Performance test revealed that the computer vision technique provides precise, absolute tool-wear quantification and reduces human maesurement errors.

UniPy: A Unified Programming Language for MGC-based IoT Systems

  • The advent of Internet of Things (IoT) makes common nowadays computing environments involving programming not a single computer but several heterogeneous distributed computers together. Developing programs separately, one for each computer, increases programmer burden and testing all the programs become more complex. To address the challenge, this paper proposes an RPC-based unified programming language, UniPy, for development of MGC (eMbedded, Gateway, and Cloud) applications in IoT systems configured with popular computers such as Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and Web-based DB server. UniPy offers programmers a view of classes as locations and a very simple form of remote procedure call mechanism. Our UniPy compiler automatically splits a UniPy program into small pieces of the program at different locations supporting the necessary RPC mechanism. An advantage of UniPy programs is to permit programmers to write local codes the same as for a single computer requiring no extra knowledge due to having unified programming models, which is very different from the existing research works such as Fabryq and Ravel. Also, the structure of UniPy programs allows programmers to test them by directly executing them before splitting, which is a feature that has never been emphasized yet.

  • Word sense disambiguation is one of the most important problems in natural language processing research topics such as information retrieval and machine translation. Many approaches can be employed to resolve word ambiguity with a reasonable degree of accuracy. These strategies are: knowledge-based, corpus-based, and hybrid-based. This paper pays attention to the corpus-based strategy. The purpose of this paper is to compare three famous machine learning techniques, Snow, SVM and Naive Bayes in Word-Sense Disambiguation on Thai language. 10 ambiguous words are selected to test with word and POS features. The results show that SVM algorithm gives the best results in solving of Thai WSD and the accuracy rate is approximately 83-96%.

Designing a Micro-Learning-Based Learning Environment and Its Impact on Website Designing Skills and Achievement Motivation Among Secondary School Students

  • The study aimed to elucidate how to design a learning environment on the premise of micro-learning (ML) and investigate its impact on website designing skills and achievement motivation among secondary school students. Adopting the experimental approach, data were collected through an achievement test, a product evaluation form, and a test to gauge motivation for achievement. The sample was divided into two experimental groups. Results revealed statistically significant differences at 0.05≥α between the mean scores of the two groups that experienced ML, irrespective of the two modes of presenting the video in the pre-test and post-test, as for the test of websites design skills, product evaluation form, and achievement motivation test. Besides, there have been statistically significant differences at 0.05≥α between the mean scores of the first experimental group that had exposure to ML using the split-video presentation style and the scores of the second experimental group that underwent ML using continuous video presentation style in the post cognitive test of website design and management skills in favor of the group that had segmented-video-presentation ML. Another salient finding is the nonexistence of significant differences at 0.05≥α between the mean scores of the first experimental group that underwent segmented-video-presentation ML and the grades of the second experimental group that received ML with continuous video presentation style in the post-application of the product scorecard of websites designing skills and the motivation test. In light of these salient findings, the study recommended using ML in teaching computer courses at different educational stages in Saudi Arabia, training computer and information technology teachers to harness ML in their teaching and using ML in designing courses at all levels of education.
