CAE Solid Element Mesh Generation from 3D Laser Scanned Surface Point Coordinates

  • A 3D solid element mesh generation algorithm was newly developed. 3D surface points of global rectangular coordinates were supplied by a 3D laser scanner. The algorithm is strait forward and simple but it generates hexahedral solid elements. Then, the surface rectangular elements were generated from the solid elements. The key of the algorithm is elimination of unnecessary elements and 3D boundary surface fitting using given 3D surface point data.

  • A normalization approach to coefficient adaptation in the escalator(ESC) filter structure that conventionally employs least mean square(LMS) algorithm is introduced. Using Taylor's expansion of the local error signal, a normalized form of the ESC-LMS algorithm is derived. Compared with the computational complexity of the conventional ESC-LMS algorithm employs input power estimation for time-varying convergence coefficient using a single-pole low-pass filter, the computational complexity of the proposed method can be reduced by 50% without performance degradation.

  • In this paper numerical algorithm for the continuum large crack model is proposed based on the return-mapping formulation. The numerical test results show that the present algorithm works appropriately under cyclic loading. It is also shown that in continuum damage models a large crack model to prevent excessive tensile plastic strain should be used to have realistic cyclic loading simulation results.

  • The global coordinates generated from Isomap algorithm provide a simple way to analyze and manipulate high dimensional observations in terms of their intrinsic nonlinear degrees of freedom. Thus, Isomap can find globally meaningful coordinates and nonlinear structure of complex data sets, while neither principal component analysis (PCA) nor multidimensional scaling (MDS) are successful in many cases. It is demonstrated that the adapted Isomap algorithm successfully enhances the quality of pattern classification for damage identification in various numerical examples.

  • Presented in this paper is a CPO tool-path linking procedure optimizing technological objectives, such as dealing with islands (positive and negative) and minimizing tool retractions, drilling holes and slotting. Main features of the proposed algorithm are as follows; 1) a data structure, called a 'TPE-net', is devised to provide information on the parent/child relationships among the tool-path-elements, 2) the number of tool retractions is minimized by a 'tool-path-element linking algorithm'fading a tour through the TPE-net, and 3) the number of drilling holes is minimized by making use of the concept of the 'free space'.

  • 균열전파 현상은 항상 형상이 변화하는 대표적인 문제중의 하나이다. 본 연구는 준-정적 균열전파 현상을 해석하기 위하여 들로네이 특성을 이용한 국지 요소재편 알고리즘을 제시하였다. 이 알고리즘은 요소 재편성과 세분화를 모두 수행할 수 있도록 준비되었다. 적용예로 M 적분법을 사용하여 주로 혼합 모우드로 균열이 전파되는 스폴링 현상을 해석하였다.

Parallel Synthesis Algorithm for Layer-based Computer-generated Holograms Using Sparse-field Localization

  • We propose a high-speed layer-based algorithm for synthesizing computer-generated holograms (CGHs), featuring sparsity-based image segmentation and computational parallelism. The sparsity-based image segmentation of layer-based three-dimensional scenes leads to considerable improvement in the efficiency of CGH computation. The efficiency enhancement of the proposed algorithm is ascribed to the field localization of the fast Fourier transform (FFT), and the consequent reduction of FFT computational complexity.

직접해법 기반의 FETI 알고리즘의 개선 (Further Improvement of Direct Solution-based FETI Algorithm)

  • 본 논문은 직접해법 기반 FETI 알고리즘의 개선 방안을 제시하였다. 개선 대상은 FETI-local로, 해당 알고리즘은 국부 Lagrange 승수를 통해 부영역 간 경계 문제를 정의한다. 부영역 경계 강성 및 하중 계산 단계의 경우, 전체 역행렬 계산 등 과도한 비용을 요구했던 기존 알고리즘을 Boolean 행렬 특성을 활용한 선택적 역행렬 성분 계산으로 개선하였다. 전역 경계 행렬식 계산 단계의 경우, 기존 단일 프로세서 연산을 다중 프론탈 기법 기반 병렬 연산으로 대체하였다. 제시된 FETI-local 알고리즘의 성능 개선은 64만 자유도 수치 예제를 통해 검증되었으며, 기존 대비 최대 97.8%의 계산 시간 감소가 달성되었다. 또한, 기존 대비 안정적이고 개선된 확장성이 가속 지표를 통해 확인되었다. 추가로, 432만 자유도의 대용량 계산 성능 비교가 제시된 알고리즘과 상용 프로그램인 ANSYS 간에 수행되었다. 그 결과, 계산 시간 측면에선 ANSYS가 우수하였으나, 프로세서 수에 따른 가속 성능 증가율 측면에선 제시된 알고리즘이 우수한 것이 확인되었다.

  • Learning computational thinking is very important in programming education. Computational thinking refers to the problem solving ability based on the theories of computer science, indicating the importance of algorithm thinking. That is the reason for focusing on promoting creativity and improving the problem solving ability of the students in programming education. This paper commented the elements to consider for teachers when teaching computational thinking to elementary school students with online coding education website 'code.org' that helps beginners have easy programming experiences based on the characteristics of the website, and proposed the appropriate teaching methods.

Optimum design of steel frame structures by a modified dolphin echolocation algorithm

  • Dolphin echolocation (DE) optimization algorithm is a recently developed meta-heuristic in which echolocation behavior of Dolphins is utilized for seeking a design space. The computational performance of meta-heuristic algorithms is highly dependent to its internal parameters. But the computational time of adjusting these parameters is usually extensive. The DE is an efficient optimization algorithm as it includes few internal parameters compared with other meta-heuristics. In the present paper a modified Dolphin echolocation (MDE) algorithm is proposed for optimization of steel frame structures. In the MDE the step locations are determined using one-dimensional chaotic maps and this improves the convergence behavior of the algorithm. The effectiveness of the proposed MDE algorithm is illustrated in three benchmark steel frame optimization test examples. Results demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed MDE algorithm in finding better solutions compared to standard DE and other existing algorithms.
