  • Wet compression means the injection of water droplets into the compressor of gas turbines. This method decreases the compression work and increases the turbine output by decreasing the compressor exit temperature through the evaporation of water droplets inside the compressor. Researches on wet compression, up to now, have been focused on the thermodynamic analysis of wet compression where the decrease in exit flow temperature and compression work is demonstrated. This paper provides thermodynamic and aerodynamic analysis on wet compression in a centrifugal compressor for a microturbine. The meanline dry compression performance analysis of centrifugal compressor is coupled with the thermodynamic equation of wet compression to get the meanline performance of wet compression. The most influencing parameter in the analysis is the evaporative rate of water droplets. It is found that the impeller exit flow temperature and compression work decreases as the evaporative rate increases. And the exit flow angle decreases as the evaporative rate increases.

  • Proof-of-Work (PoW) is the first and still most common consensus protocol in blockchain. But it is costly and energy intensive, aiming at addressing these problems, we propose a consensus algorithm named Proof-of-Work-and-Block-Compression (PoW-BC). PoW-BC is an improvement of PoW to compress blocks and adjust consensus parameters. The algorithm is designed to encourage the reduction of block size, which improves transmission efficiency and reduces disk space for storing blocks. The transaction optimization model and block compression model are proposed to compress block data with a smaller compression ratio and less compression/ decompression duration. Block compression ratio is used to adjust mining difficulty and transaction count of PoW-BC consensus protocol according to the consensus parameters adjustment model. Through experiment and analysis, it shows that PoW-BC improves transaction throughput, and reduces block interval and energy consumption.

  • To understand the high expansion effects by adopting intake closing time in the cases of compensating intake air-mass and effective compression ratio simultaneously, fundamental study was carried out by using RICEM realizing Atkinson cycle. Intake air-mass and effective compression ratio were compensated by increasing supercharged pressure and geometric compression ratio. The results showed that the increasing rates of expansion ratio and expansion-compression ratio were increased by compensating both a intake air-mass and effective compression ratio the same tendencies were obtained with the increases of compression ratio and cut off ratio It was also found that LIVC has more advantages in expansion ratio and effective work than those of EIVC under above conditions.

  • The energy consumed by compressor in gas turbine is equivalent to $30\sim50\%$ of energy produced by turbine and, therefore, research on reducing compression work is important in increasing the efficiency of gas turbine. One of the method to reduce the compression work is to inject small water droplets into the compressor. This method decreases the compression work by decreasing the compressor exit temperature through the evaporation of water. Researches on wet compression, up to now, are focused on thermodynamic analysis of wet compression where the decrease of exit flow temperature and compression work is demonstrated. This paper presents an thermodynamic and aerodynamic analysis of wet compression in centrifugal compressor for microturbine.

  • This article discusses the phenomenon of plastic volumetric deformation of naturally structured clays before virgin yielding, i.e., subyielding behavior. A simple approach representing both the compression and shear responses of the clays during subyielding is demonstrated. A new compression model for structured clays based on the theoretical framework of the Structured Cam Clay (SCC) model via incorporation of the subyielding behavior is presented. Two stress surfaces are introduced to distinguish the subyielding and virgin yielding. The hardening and destructuring processes of structured clays under isotropic compression and shear are the focus of this work. The simulations of the compression and shear of eleven natural clays are studied for validation. The proposed work can accurately predict the subyielding behavior of structured clays both qualitatively and quantitatively and can be used for modeling structured clays under compression and shear responses in geological and geotechnical engineering problems.

  • The ring compression test has been widely employed as an experimental means to determine the friction factor. The calibration curves are obtained by the rigid-plastic finite element analysis for various work-hardening exponent and strain-rate hardening exponent. The effects of work-hardening exponent and strain-rate hardening exponent are thoroughly studied and discussed from the finite element computation. The change of friction factor during height reduction in ring compression is also discussed. Then, the method to estimate the change of friction factor during ring compression is proposed.

  • Flow phenomena such as the pressure transients Inside a high-speed railway tunnel and the Impulsive waves at the exit of the tunnel are closely associated with the characteristics of the entry compression wave, which is generated by a train entering the tunnel. Tunnel entrance hood may be an effective means for alleviating the Impulsive waves and pressure transients. The objective of the current work is to explore the effects of the train nose shape and the entrance hood on the characteristics of the entry compression wave. Numerical calculations using the method of characteristics were applied to one-dimensional, unsteady, compressible flow field with respect to high-speed railway/tunnel systems. Two types of the entrance hoods and various train nose shapes were employed to reveal their influences on the entry compression wave for a wide range of train speeds. The results showed that the entry compression wave length increases as the train nose becomes longer and the train speed becomes lower. The entry compression wave length in the tunnel with hood becomes longer than that of no hood. Maximum pressure gradient in the compression wavefront reduces by the entrance hood. The results of the current work provide useful data for the design of tunnel entrance hood.

  • The performance of an air to water vapor compression heat pump has been investigated experimentally. The main purpose of this study was to study the possibilities of using hydrocarbon refrigerants as a working fluid to replace R-22 for vapor compression heat pumps. Pure R-22 and R-290, R-600a, R-1270 were considered as working fluids. The performance of the system was characterized by compression shaft work, refrigeration capacity, pressure ratio, discharge temperature and COP. The experimental apparatus has basic parts of cycle that uses the air as a heat source. The experimental results show that refrigeration capacity of HC refrigerants is same or higher than that of R-22. On the other hand, compression shaft work of HC refrigerants is lower than that of R-22. Compression shaft work is lower than that of R-22. Come to the conclusion that, it is possible that hydrocarbon refrigerants could be drop-in alternatives for R-22.

  • In this paper, cycle performance analysis for cooling capacity, compression work and COP of R744($CO_2$) transcritical vapor compression refrigeration system is presented to offer the basic design data for the operating parameters of the system. The operating parameters considered in this study include superheating degree, outlet temperature of gas cooler and evaporating temperature in the R744 vapor compression cycle. The main results were summarized as follows : The cooling capacity of R744 increases with superheating degree, but decreases with the increasing evaporating temperature and outlet temperature of gas cooler. The compression work increases with superheating degree and cooling pressure of R744, but decreases with the increasing evaporating temperature. And, The COP increases with outlet temperature and evaporating temperature of R744 gas cooler, but decreases with the increasing superheating degree. Therefore, superheating degree, outlet temperature and evaporating temperature of R744 vapor compression refrigeration system have an effect on the cooling capacity, compression work and COP of this system. With a thorough grasp of these effect, it is necessary to design the compression refrigeration cycle using R744.
