Green Frame is a method for Rahmen structure construction composed of composite PC members. The composite PC members of Green Frame which are based on in-situ production can reduce the construction cost and are more likely to secure quality when compared to production in factories. Previous studies developed forms for in-situ production of Green Frame composite PC members and proposed algorithms to arrange them on site. However, it requires not only their arrangement, but also calculation of an accurate production period to produce the required PC members in a limited space and supply them in a timely manner. In particular, it is necessary to clearly define the properties of detailed processes for in-situ production of PC members and to calculate the time required for respective process. To do so, this study is a basic research on calculating the time for in-situ production using a linear scheduling method.
The composite PC rahmen structure, called Green Frame, allows the main structural members such as PC column and beam to be produced on the site, resulting in a reduction of PC member transportation cost and the margin of PC plant (operation cost and profit), making it more economic than the bearing wall structure. To apply the Green Frame to practice, not only installation but also insitu-production process should be considered. Therefore, this study analyse the influence factors on insitu-production and installation schedule of composite precast concrete members. The results shall be used as basic criteria on the planning of insitu-production and installation of Green Frame.
In recent years, the composite columns have been widely used in the structures. These columns are mainly used to construct the structures with a large span and high floor height. Concrete filled tubes (CFTs) are a type of composite column, which are popular nowadays due to their numerous benefits. The purpose of this study is to investigate such frames at elevated temperatures. The method used in this research is based on section 2.2 of Eurocode 4. First, for the verification purpose, a comparison was made between the experimental results and the numerical model of the concrete filled tube. Then a composite frame was analyzed under fire temperature with different parameters. The results showed that the failure time decreased with increasing the friction of different models. Moreover, investigation of the concrete moisture content revealed that an increase in the concrete moisture content from 3% to 10% led to extended failure time for different models. For instance, in the second frame model, the failure time has increased up to 8%.
The composite beam adopted in the study was designed to reduce the floor height as well as to embed the top flange of steel frame into the slab that will enable to avoid applying the fire-resistant coating and to unify the joint method with a steel frame-type. As the steel frame and bottom concrete of the beam is pre-fabricated at the factory it could reduce the overall schedule at the jobsite. Applying such composite beam system to the work is expected to provide the efficient and enhanced performance, given the current tendency of the building construction that tends to be getting higher, larger and dense. The study focused on combining the composite beam with various column systems in a bid to propose the details thereof. A desirable composite girder can be adopted depending on site conditions through the evaluation of various beam and jointing approaches. Among the column systems applied to the study are steel column, SRC column, RC-PC column and RC column. The ways of combining with the columns addressed in the study were categorized into the rigid joint, pin joint, steel frame joint and bracket type joint. Besides, the instruction for site fabrication of beam-column was added in an effort to help set up the site fabrication procedures.
SMART Frame is a composite precast concrete structure system to deliver the advantages of both steel frame and reinforced concrete. Many studies have established to date that SMART Frame is more advantageous than conventional frame-type structure in terms of structural stability, constructability, economic viability as well as reduction of construction schedule. However, such studies have focused primarily on wall-type or flat slab-type apartment housing structures, failing to include Rahmen structures in their scope. Accordingly, this study aims to analyze the benefits of potential application of SMART Frame to RC Rahmen structures. As the structural stability and constructability of SMART Frame is already proven, this study reviews its benefits from the perspective of cost reduction. Conclusion of this study will be used subsequently in predicting the benefits of SMART Frame when it is adapted to RC Rahmen structures.
This is the preliminary study to develop composite window frame of commercial aircraft using VaRTM process. For two candidate carbon fabric(triaxial fabric, sleeving braider dry carbon fiber), specimens were fabricated using VaRTM process ,and then the physical & mechanical tests were performed to gain material property according to ASTM. FEM analysis for each candidate carbon fabric were performed to find the minimum ply number and weight for composite window frame. In this study Tsai-Wu strength failure criteria was utilized to evaluate the safety of structure.
We have evaluated the structural integrity of a sandwich composite train roof which can find a lightweight, cost saving solution to large structural components for rail vehicles in design stages. The sandwich composite train roof was 11.45 meter long and 1.76 meter wide. The reinforced frame was inserted in sandwich panels to improve the structural performance of train roof structure and had the shape of hollow rectangular box. The finite-element analysis was used to calculate the stresses, deflections and natural frequencies of the sandwich composite train roof against the weight of air-condition system. The 3D sandwich FE model was introduced to simulate the hollow aluminum frames which jointed to both sides of the sandwich train roof. The results shown that the structural performance of a sandwich composite train roof under load conditions specified was proven and the use of aluminum reinforced frame was beneficial with regard to weight savings in comparison to steel reinforced frame.
The paper presents a review of the application of the newly proposed mixed finite element model for seismic simulation of different types of composite frame structures. To evaluate the performance of the element, a comparison with displacement-based and force-based models is conducted. The study revealed that the mixed model is superior to the others in terms of both speed of convergence and numerical stability, and is therefore considered the most practical approach for modeling of composite structures. In this model, the element is derived using independent force and displacement shape functions. The nonlinear response of the frame element is based on the section discretization into fibers with uniaxial material models. The interfacial behavior is modeled using an inelastic interface element. Numerical examples to clarify the advantages of the model are presented for the following structural applications: anchored reinforcing bar problems, composite steel-concrete girders with deformable shear connectors, beam on elastic foundation elements, R/C girders strengthened with FRP sheets, R/C beam-columns with bond-slip, and prestressed concrete girders. These studies confirmed that the model represents a major advancement over existing elements in simulating the inelastic behavior of composite structures.

Composite special moment frame is one of the systems that are utilized in areas with low to high seismicity to deal with earthquake forces. Composite moment frames are composed of reinforced concrete columns (RC) and steel beams (S); therefore, the connection region is a combination of steel and concrete materials. In current study, a three dimensional finite element model of composite connections is developed. These connections are used in special composite moment frame, between reinforced concrete columns and steel beams (RCS). Finite element model is discussed as a most reliable and low cost method versus experimental procedures. Based on a tested connection model by Cheng and Chen (2005), the finite element model has been developed under cyclic loading and is verified with experimental results. A good agreement between finite element model and experimental results was observed. The connection configuration contains Face Bearing Plates (FBPs), Steel Band Plates (SBPs) enveloping around the RC column just above and below the steel beam. Longitudinal column bars pass through the connection with square ties around them. The finite element model represented a stable response up to the first cycles equal to 4.0% drift, with moderately pinched hysteresis loops and then showed a significant buckling in upper flange of beam, as the in test model.
