  • This study presents a comparative analysis of enforcement and regulatory compliance issues in Korean and American fisheries. The comparison involves characterizing factors which affect regulatory compliance. The study also suggests policy directions and strategies by characteristics of factors suitable to Korean fisheries circumstances in order to induce voluntary compliance from fishers and to make compliance friendly environment for the fishers. In detail, this study has 3 steps as follows. First, this study characterizes factors influencing compliance and non - compliance caused by various reasons and categorizes these factors by considering theories for fisheries regulatory compliance. Major categories of compliance factors consist of fisheries resources, users(fishers), and the government. Each category is composed of several factors and sub - factors by characteristics. Second, this study seeks to diagnose problems and limitations from the regulatory compliance in Korean and US' fisheries by analyzing the current status of the compliance in both countries. The comparative analysis between two countries highlights the problems and limitations of each country's regulatory compliance and leads to implications for Korean fisheries. Third, this study suggests policy directions and strategies suitable to Korean regulatory compliance environment through detailed understanding of U.S.' fisheries regulatory compliance. The suggested strategies are based on the concept of voluntary compliance and compliance - friendly environment, not command and control regulations. Furthermore, this study provides policy suggestions for Korean fisheries regulatory enforcement and compliance issues.

  • This paper provides a guideline for specifying the operational compliance characteristics considering the location of compliance center and the grasp points in assembly tasks using robot hands. Through various assembly tasks, we analyze the conditions of the achievable operational stiffness matrix with respect to the location of compliance center and the grasp points. Also, we show that some of coupling stiffness elements in the operational space cannot be planned arbitrarily. As a result it is concluded that the location of compliance center on the grasped object and the grasp points play important roles for successful assembly tasks and also the operational stiffness matrix should be carefully specified by considering those conditions.

  • In this work, we investigate the characteristics of output compliance matrix of a planar 3 degree-of-freedom parallel mechanism when joint compliances are attached to the mechanism redundantly. It is shown by simulation that by attaching redundant joint compliances symmetrically to the mechanism, the translational and rotational compliances can be arbitrarily modulated within some ranges. This property could be effectively used in the control of the compliance characteristics of actively adjustable RCC devices.

  • In this work, we propose a planar three degree-of-freedom parallel mechanism as another type of assembly device which utilized joint compliances. These joint compliances can be adjusted either by properly replacing the joint compliances or by actively controlling stiffness at joints, in order to generate the desired operational compliance characteristics at RCC point, The operational compliance matrix for this mechanism is explicitly obtained by symbolic manipulation and its operational compliance characteristics are examined, it is found that the RCC point exists at the center of the workspace when the mechanism maintains symmetric configurations. Compliance characteristic and its sensitivity of this mechanism is analyzed with respect to the magnitude of the diagonal compliance components and two different matrix norms measuring compliance sensitivity. It is expected that the analysis results provide the designer with a helpful information to determine a set of optimal parameters of this RCC mechanism.

  • Depressive disorder is a chronic disabling condition with recurrent episodes. Medication noncompliance is a significant problem for effective management of depressive disorder. However, compliance with antidepressant medication is poor. There are difficulties in assessing compliance accurately. Various methods for assessing compliance are in use. A patient's compliance with antidepressant may be affected by many factors including the clinical characteristics of depression, pharmacologic properties of antidepressants, patients' characteristics, accessibility treatment, and doctor-patient relationships. For enhancing the treatment compliance, psychotherapeutic considerations in patient-therapist relationship are needed.

  • Taxes are levied in almost every country, primarily to raise revenue for government expenditures. This study explores factors influencing tax compliance of small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Vietnam. Data from 376 SMEs, who are business taxpayers, were collected through a researcher-administered questionnaire survey method. The results indicate that six groups of factors have significant impacts on tax compliance among Vietnamese SMEs. These groups include: Business characteristics (BC), Characteristics of accounting practices within organization (AP), Awareness of tax obligations (TO), Tax policy (TP), View on tax compliance (TC), and Probability of tax examination on taxpayer compliance (TE). Multivariate analysis was adopted; Cronbach's alpha coefficients were calculated, then, Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) was used. The findings show that, among these six factors, the most influential is Characteristics of accounting practices (AP). Thus, it is recommended that tax agencies should help SMEs improve their accounting skills and increase their knowledge by organizing training workshops and short courses on taxation. SMEs also need to have an adequate accounting system in accordance with principles and standards prescribed by the Tax Law. It is expected that this study can provide important insights and understandings to policy-makers, practitioners, academicians and other regulatory authorities in tax policy formulations.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between hardiness-self efficacy and compliance in coronary artery disease patients. The subjects for the study were 106 patients who admitted to S medical center or visited to outpatient clinic. The instruments used for this study included a questionnaire of general characteristics, compliance, health related hardiness and self efficacy. The data were analyzed by using mean, t -test, ANOVA, Scheffe test, Pearson correlation. The results of this study were as follows: 1. The average score for compliance was 70.75, for the hardiness was 87.35, for the self efficacy was 59.04. 2. The relationship between the variables of compliance and hardiness self efficacy was significant. Compliance was significantly related to hardiness(r=.47, p<.01), suggesting that the person with high hardiness got higher compliance scores. The three dimensions of health related hardiness were control, commitment, challenge. Control(r=.513, p<.01), commitment(r=.258, p<.05), challenge(r=.419, p<.01), were significantly related to compliance. A slight but significant correlation was also found between compliance and self efficacy(r=.21, p<.05). 3. In the relationship between general characteristics variables and compliance there were significant differences in marital status(t =3.43, p<.01), duration of illness(F=4.98, p<.01), hospitalized experience(t=2.04, p<.05), educational experience(t=2.66, p<.01). From the above results, it can be concluded that ; Hardiness and self efficacy were found as important factors of the compliance in coronary artery disease patients. These results suggest that nursing intervention to increase the level of hardiness and self efficacy should be developed.
