  • This paper presents a neutral point deviation and ripple compensation control method for application to 3-level NPC converters. The neutral point deviation and its harmonic components are analyzed with a focus on the average current flowing through the neutral point of the dc-link. This paper also proposes a control scheme to compensate for the neutral point deviation and dominant harmonic components under generalized unbalanced grid operating conditions. The positive and negative sequence components of the pole voltages and ac input currents are employed to accurately explain the behavior of 3-level NPC converters. Simulation and experimental results are presented to verify the validity of the proposed method.

  • In orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) systems, phase noise introduced by the local oscillators can cause bit error rate (BER) performance degradation. To solve the phase noise problem, a novel orthogonal-polarization-based phase noise self-cancellation (OP-PNSC) scheme is proposed. First, the efficiency of canceling the phase noise of the OP-PNSC scheme in the AWGN channel is investigated. Then, the OP-PNSC scheme in the polarization-dependent loss (PDL) channel is investigated due to power imbalance caused by PDL, and a PDL pre-compensated OP-PNSC (PPC -OP-PNSC) scheme is proposed to mitigate the power imbalance caused by PDL. In addition, the performance of the PPC-OP-PNSC scheme is investigated, where the signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) and spectral efficiency (SE) performances are analyzed. Finally, a comparison between the OP-PNSC and polarization diversity scheme is discussed. The numerical results show that the BER and SINR performances of the OP-PNSC scheme outperform the case with the phase noise compensation and phase noise self-cancellation scheme.

  • In this paper, we propose a modified clipping scheme for iterative decoding of superposition coding system by losing less power than clipping scheme. Our proposed scheme in superposition coding system shows good performance in peak-to-average power ratio(PAPR) and system performance with the same Clipping Ratio especially in low Clipping Ratio case. Finally in order to alleviate the performance degradation due to clipping noises, we combine a soft compensation algorithm that is combined with soft-input-soft-output(SISO) decoding algorithms in an iterative manner proposed by [1][2]. Simulation results show that with the proposed scheme, most performance loss can be recovered.

  • In order to alleviate the negative impacts of harmonically distorted grid condition on grid-connect inverters, an optimal control design-based gain selection scheme of an LCL-filtered grid-connected inverter and its ability to compensate selective harmonics are presented in this paper. By incorporating resonant terms into the control structure in the state-space to provide infinity gain at selected frequencies, the proposed control offers an excellent steady-state response even under distorted grid voltage. The proposed control scheme is achieved by using a state feedback controller for stabilization purpose and by augmenting the resonant terms as well as intergral term into a control structure for reference tracking and harmonic compensation. Furthermore, the optimal linear quadratic control approach is adopted for choosing an optimal feedback gain to ensure an asymptotic stability of the whole system. A discrete-time full state observer is also introduced into the proposed control scheme for the purpose of reducing a total number of sensors used in the inverter system. The simulation results are given to prove the effectiveness and validity of the proposed control scheme.

  • This paper proposes the novel open-fault detection/isolation scheme of inverter switch in two-phase excited VSI. This scheme identify open-fault using voltage sensor at lower switches of each phase according to the operating mode. It has benefit of simple implementation, fast detection and robustness in the load so that stab of the system is improved. Also, at faulty mode, it minimizes faulty effect and makes possible continuous operation through the reconfiguration procedure applying four-switch operation. The validity of proposed fault detection scheme is verified by experimental results.

  • In recent, there have been done many studies on applications that monitor the information of mobile objects using Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN). A density query that finds out an area spread by density that a target object requires in the whole sensing field is a field of object monitoring applications. In this paper, we propose a novel homogeneous network-based in-network density query processing scheme that significantly reduces query processing costs and assures high accuracy. This scheme is based on the possibility-based expected region selection technique and the result compensation technique in order to enhance the accuracy of the density query and to minimize its energy consumption. To show the superiority of our proposed scheme, we compare it with the existing density query processing scheme. As a result, our proposed scheme reduces about 92% energy consumption for query processing, while its network lifetime increases compared to the existing scheme. In addition, the proposed scheme guarantees higher accuracy than the existing scheme in terms of the query result.

  • This paper discusses how to control the compensation voltages in dynamic voltage restorers (DVR). On analyzing the power circuit of a DVR system, control limitations and control targets are presented for the voltage compensation in DVRs. Based on the preceded power stage analysis, a novel controller for the compensation voltages of DVRs is proposed by a feed forward control scheme. This paper discusses also the time delay problems in the control system of DVRs. Digitally controlled DVR systems normally have control delay at amount of one sampling time of the control system and a half of the switching period of the DVR inverter. The control delay in digital controllers increases the dimension of the system transfer function one degree higher, which makes the control system more complicate and more unstable. This paper proposes a guide line to design the control gain, appropriate output filter parameters and inverter switching frequency for DVRs with digital controllers. Proposed theory is verified by an experimental DVR system with a full digital controller.

  • This study examines the compensation scheme for the executives and risk-taking behavior in the Korean banks. Theoretically, shareholders prefer risky asset choice to the optimal one due to the limited liability feature of reward, and stock-based executive compensation may induce choices favorable to the shareholder. We empirically test this risk-taking hypothesis using Korean banks' data. Since only the stock option data is available under the current disclosure system, we limit our analysis to examine the relationship between the compensation through stock option and the risk of banks. The result provides no evidence that stock option compensations increase the risk of banks, which is contrary to the theoretical prediction and preceding studies in the US. This may be due to any factor that the executive reward data omit, or regulation effects on the bank management.

  • In this paper we propose an effective feature compensation scheme based on the speech model in order to achieve robust speech recognition. The proposed feature compensation method is based on parallel combined mixture model (PCMM). The previous PCMM works require a highly sophisticated procedure for estimation of the combined mixture model in order to reflect the time-varying noisy conditions at every utterance. The proposed schemes can cope with the time-varying background noise by employing the interpolation method of the multiple mixture models. We apply the‘data-driven’method to PCMM tot move reliable model combination and introduce a frame-synched version for estimation of environments posteriori. In order to reduce the computational complexity due to multiple models, we propose a technique for mixture sharing. The statistically similar Gaussian components are selected and the smoothed versions are generated for sharing. The performance is examined over Aurora 2.0 and speech corpus recorded while car-driving. The experimental results indicate that the proposed schemes are effective in realizing robust speech recognition and reducing the computational complexities under both simulated environments and real-life conditions.
