This paper presents a comparative study on the double-K fracture parameters of concrete obtained using four existing analytical methods such as Gauss-Chebyshev integral method, simplified Green's function method, weight function method and simplified equivalent cohesive force method. Two specimen geometries: three point bend test and compact tension specimen for sizes 100-500 mm at initial notch length to depth ratios 0.25 and 0.4 are used for the comparative study. The required input parameters for determining the double-K fracture parameters are derived from the developed fictitious crack model. It is found that the cohesive toughness and initial cracking toughness determined using weight function method and simplified equivalent cohesive force method agree well with those obtained using Gauss-Chebyshev integral method whereas these fracture parameters determined using simplified Green's function method deviates more than by 11% and 20% respectively as compared with those obtained using Gauss-Chebyshev integral method. It is also shown that all the fracture parameters related with double-K model are size dependent.
Missile am fighter aircraft have been challenged by low restoring nose-down pitching moment at high angle of attach. The consequence of weak nose-down pitching moment can be resulting in a deep stall condition. Especially, the pressure oscillation has a huge effect on noise generation, structure damage, aerodynamic performance and safety, because the flow has strong unsteadiness at high angle of attack. In this paper, the unsteady aerodynamics coefficients were analyzed at high angle of attack up to 60 degrees around two dimensional NACA0012 airfoil. The two dimensional unsteady compressible Navier-Stokes equation with a LES turbulent model was calculated by OHOC (Optimized High-Order Compact) scheme. The flow conditions are Mach number of 0.3 and Reynolds number of $10^5$. The lift, drag, pressure distribution, etc. are analyzed according to the angle of attack. The results at a low angle of attack are compared with other results before a stall condition. From a certain high angle of attack, the strong vortex formed by the leading edge are flowing downstream as like Karman vortex around a circular cylinder. Unsteady velocity field, periodic vortex shedding, the unsteady pressure distribution on the airfoil surface, and the acoustic fields are analyzed. The effects of these unsteady characteristics in the aerodynamic coefficients are analyzed.

The results of average lift coefficients are compared with other results according to the angle of attack. From a certain high angle of attack, the strong vortex formed by the leading edge are flowing downstream as like Karman vortex around a circular cylinder. The primary and secondary oscillating frequencies are analyzed by the effects of these unsteady aerodynamic characteristics.

The purpose of this research is to develop high efficiency plastic plate heat exchangers which can be substituted for conventional aluminum plate heat exchangers. Four simulation models of plastic plate heat exchangers are designed and simulated: that is, flat plate type, turbulent promoter type, corrugate type and dimple type heat exchanger. The flat plate type is designed as the reference model in order to evaluate how much thermal performance increases. The turbulent promoter type is fabricated with cylindrical-type vortex generators and rib-type turbulent promoters. The corrugate type is obtained from the conventional stainless steel compact heat exchangers, which are called the herringbone-type compact heat exchangers. The dimple type has a number of dimples on its surface. In this study, the flow and heat transfer characteristics of the plastic plate heat exchanger are investigated using numerical simulation and compared with experimental results. Numerical simulation is carried out using the FLUENT code. The flows are assumed as a three-dimensional, incompressible and turbulent model. The computational analysis and experimental results both show that the friction coefficient and Nu number is highest in the corrugate type. The tendency of numerical simulation results is in good agreement with that of the experimental results.

The necessity of compact high temperature superconducting cables is more keenly felt in densely populated metropolitan areas. Because the compact high-temperature superconducting cables can be installed in ducts and tunnels, thereby reducing construction costs and making the use of underground space more effective, the effect of introducing it to the power system will be huge. Seoul, Korea, is selected as a review model for this paper. The loads are estimated by scenario based on a survey and analysis of 345kV and 154kV power supply networks in this area. Based on this, the following elements for an urban transmission system are examined. (1) A method of constructing a model system to introduce high-temperature superconducting cables to metropolitan areas is presented. (2) A case study is conducted through the analysis of power demand scenarios, and the amount of high-temperature superconducting cable to be introduced by scenario is examined. (3) The economy involved in expanding existing cables and introducing high-temperature superconducting cables(ducts or tunnels) following load increase in urban areas is examined and compared., and standards for current cable ducts are calculated. (4) The voltage level that can be accommodated by existing ducts is examined.
In this study, powder compaction of AZO (alumina doped zinc oxide) powder was performed with a MTS 810 test system using a cylindrical die having a diameter of 10mm. Pressure-density curves were measured based on the load cell and displacement of the punch. The AZO powder compacts with various densities were formed to investigate the mechanical properties such as fracture stress of the AZO powder as a function of the compact density. Two types of compression tests were conducted in order to estimate the fracture stress using different loading paths: a diameteral compression test and a uniaxial compression test. The pressure-density curves of the AZO powder were obtained and the fracture stress of the compacted powders with various densities was estimated. The results show that the compact pressure dramatically increases as the density increases. Based on the experimental results, calibration of the modified Drucker-Prager/Cap model of the AZO powder for use in FE simulations was developed.
A macroscopic cross section generation model was developed for the conceptual horizontal, compact high temperature gas reactor (HC-HTGR). Because there are many sources of spectral effects in the design and analysis of the core, conventional LWR methods have limitations for accurate simulation of the HC-HTGR using a neutron diffusion core neutronics simulator. Several super-cell model configurations were investigated to consider the spectral effect of neighboring cells. A new history variable was introduced for the existing library format to more accurately account for the history effect from neighboring nodes and reactivity control drums. The macroscopic cross section library was validated through comparison with cross sections generated using full core Monte Carlo models and single cell cross section for both 3D core steady-state problems and 2D and 3D depletion problems. Core calculations were then performed with the AGREE HTR neutronics and thermal-fluid core simulator using super-cell cross sections. With the new history variable, the super-cell cross sections were in good agreement with the full core cross sections even for problems with significant spectrum change during fuel shuffling and depletion.
