Commonality strategy is a popular design practice in designing a product line as it enables the firm cost saving and simplification in design, manufacturing, and distribution processes. However the issue of commonality has been mostly analyzed from a profit maximizing firm's perspective and, to our knowledge, there is no literature that deals with the issue from a different perspective. in this paper, we consider the issue of commonality strategy from a social welfare maximization perspective, and argue that commonality strategy used in designing of public goods can bring certain benefits not just for a firm but also for consumers, i.e., for society as a whole. While we assume certain cost saving in production process due to economies of scale under commonality strategy, we conceptualize two different effects of commonality strategy, utility effect due to cost saving and weighted-averaging effect, and show how these two effects interplay to determine the design of common attribute and desirability of commonality strategy. We also discuss how the implementation of commonality strategy differs under different objectives of a product line designer : social welfare and firm's profit maximization.

An architectural practice cannot help involving a social art as its own concept. Especially the school facilities are subjected to the influence of not only the educational needs and the national curriculum, but also the sociocultural context with the change of the times. This study aims to explore the commonality of school facilities and give a theoretic background to the private-public partnership for building new schools and renovating old school buildings. After it studies about the relationship between the roles of school and community, it classifies' the commonality of school facilities' into 4 categories the educational commonality, school as the public good, the esthetic functions to society and the social role as community center. Finally, this paper proposes some methods for improving the commonality of school facilities.

The purpose of this paper is to understand the meaning of 'institution' in Louis Kahn's architecture and to reveal that it is expressed through singularity and commonality, which have two aspects; formal-material(eidos-hyle) aspect and phenomenological aspect. Under these recognitions, this paper shows the detail analysis on design process of Phillips Exeter Academy Library, focusing on his writings and sketches. The results are as follows. First, the basic form is maintained through the design process of the Exeter library, and it is derived from the consideration of the human activities in the library. And second, each 'room' of the library acquires its singularity through structure and light. And the 'plan' is based on the commonality inherent in the singularity of each room. And the last, singularity and commonality are revealed not only In the relation of architectural elements but also In the relation with man and architecture.

본 논문에서는 UML CASE 도구 프레임워크 구축에 이용할 수 있는 공통성 및 가변성 분석 기법을 제안하고자 한다. 공통성 및 가변성 분석은 동일 도메인에서 어플리케이션 특성에 따라 변할 수 있는 영역과 변하지 않는 영역을 구분함으로써 확장과 재사용성을 향상시킬 수 있는 방법이다. 공통성 및 가변성 분석 기법으로 클래스에 기반한 분류기법을 제안하였으며, 이를 명시적으로 나타낼 수 있는 표기법을 제시하였다. 또한 분석 기법을 바탕으로 프레임워크를 구현하였으며, 결함 제거 효율성을 이용해 분석 기법의 검증을 수행하였다.

Service engineering is a new discipline which aims at basically understanding of service and a concrete methodology using engineering approach for service design. In this paper is introduced the serviset graph [7] which is a comprehensive concept to represent service products, processes, and operation activities. The proposed concept is a degree of commonality index in a service product in order to deal with service mass customization using the input-output analysis in economic model.

Vernacular houses in Southeast Asia are basically post and beam structures raised on pillars, with gabled roofs. They were designed and built by the people themselves to meet specific needs, accommodating the values, economies and ways of life of cultures that produce them. Their forms and housing cultures are very various according to the country and the region. But based on the common history and culture, the vernacular houses in Southeast definitely have commonality. The purpose of this study is to analyse the commonality and diversity of the vernacular houses in Southeast Asia in the aspect of two different perspectives. One is the climate perspective, for which the analysis was made on the primary characteristics such as the climate, material, structure of the vernacular houses. The other one is the social-cultural perspective which try to find the religion, belief, life style and social and family relationship which controlled the forms of the housing under the surface. As a result, this study summarise and find the outstanding and unique meaning and definition of the vernacular houses in Southeast Asia.

독일 신표현주의와 중국 현대 수묵은 지리적으로 멀리 떨어진 두 나라에서 시작됐으나, 등장한 시기가 유사하며 서로 공통되는 부분이 많다.창작 태도 측면에서 두 풍격의 예술가들은 모두 외래 풍격을 받아들이고 저항하며 과거로 회귀하고 전통을 초월하여 포스트모던의 불확실성을 함께 드러내고 있다. 표현 형식 측면에서 보면, 두 화풍이 그리는 대상은 모두 형상을 갖추고 있으나 사실적이지는 않으며, 매개의 재료 특성을 활용하는 것을 중요하게 여긴다. 정신적 함의 측면에서 보면, 신표현주의와 현대 수묵은 모두 사회적 관심사를 중시하고, 상통하며 유동적인 현대성을 지닌다. 독일 신표현주의와 중국 현대 수묵의 상통성은 차이점을 지우자는 것이 아니라 차이점과 공통점이 공존할 수 있도록 해야 한다는 것이다.

글로벌 마켓에서 경쟁하기 위하여 많은 기업들은 제품의 다양성을 증가시키고, 고객의 요구사항을 만족시키고, 리드타임을 줄이고, 비용을 줄이기 위하여 product family를 적용하고 있다. 성공적인 product family를 위한 핵심요인은 플랫폼을 도출하는 것이다. Product family를 설계할 때, 제품의 공통성과 차별성간의 절충을 해결하는 것이 중요하다. Product family내에서 공통성을 평가하기 위해서 공통성 지수를 개발하는 것이 필요하다. 공통성 지수는 공통 부품수, 비용, 제조 공정 등과 같은 서로 다른 변수들을 이용한다. 본 연구에서는 선행 연구된 공통성 지수를 벤치마킹하여 환경성을 고려한 새로운 product family 평가 지수인 그린 product family 지수(GPFI)를 개발하고자 한다. 기존에 개발된 공통성 지수들과 본 연구에서 개발된 GPFI와의 비교연구를 통하여 제안한 지수의 적합성과 효과성에 대하여 검증한다. 궁극적으로 본 연구에서 제안하는 새로운 개발한 그린 product family 지수는 환경친화적인 product family를 설계하고 개발하는 데 도움이 될 것이다.

고객의 요구에 대한 빠른 대응과 유연하고 효율적으로 새로운 제품을 적기에 개발하기 위해서는 제품 플랫폼에 기초한 대량 맞춤이 절실히 요구된다. 이러한 목적을 달성하기 위하여 기업들은 상대적으로 생산비용을 낮게 유지하면서 대량생산의 이점을 유지하고 동시에 고객의 요구사항을 만족시키기 위해, product family를 도입하고 가능하면 작은 변화를 통하여 제품의 다양성을 유지하고자 한다. Product family를 설계할 때 중요한 이슈는 제품의 공통성과 차별성간의 절충점을 어떻게 찾아낼 것인가인데, 이를 위하여 개발된 것이 product family내에서 평가하는 방법이다. 본 연구에서는 product family의 공통성을 평가하기 위해 개발된 대표적인 7가지의 방법을 여러가지 측면에서 비교분석한다. 이를 위하여 두 개 회사의 컴퓨터 마우스 제품군을 대상으로 공통성 평가를 위한 비교연구를 수행하였다. 추가적으로 본 연구에서는 product family를 설계하거나 재설계할 때 공통성 평가지 수의 효과적이고 효율적인 사용방안을 위한 전략도 제시하였다.

컴포넌트 개발 시에 속성과 행위에 대한 공용성과 가변성을 분석하여 재사용과 확장성을 제공할 수 있다. 그러므로 공용성과 가변성이 분석된 컴포넌트는 기능과 적합성의 불일치를 줄이고자하는 목적에서 사용하게 된다 본 논문에서는 영역에 의하여 존재하는 컴포넌트의 공용성과 가변성을 분석해서, 컴포넌트의 기능을 행위분석에 의하여 추출하였다. 이와 같은 분석에 의하여 컴포넌트의 재사용과 확장성을 연구하고자 한다.
