  • A single-photon laser and mid-wave infrared (MWIR) common aperture optical system was designed and developed to detect and range a long-distance civil aviation aircraft. The secondary mirror of the Ritchey-Chretien (R-C) optical system was chosen as a dichroic lens to realize the design of a common aperture system for the laser and MWIR. Point spread function (PSF) ellipticity was introduced to evaluate the coupling efficiency of the laser receiving system. A small aperture stop and narrow filter were set in the secondary image plane and an afocal light path of the laser system, respectively, and the stray light suppression ability of the small aperture stop was verified by modeling and simulation. With high-precision manufacturing technology by single point diamond turning (SPDT) and a high-efficiency dichroic coating, the laser/MWIR common aperture optical system with a 𝜑300 mm aluminum alloy mirror obtained images of buildings at a distance of 5 km with great quality. A civil aviation aircraft detection experiment was conducted. The results show that the common aperture system could detect and track long-distance civil aviation aircraft effectively, and the coverage was more than 450 km (signal-to-noise ratio = 6.3). It satisfied the application requirements for earlier warning and ranging of long-range targets in the area of aviation, aerospace and ground detection systems.

  • Cerebral aneurysm is common lesion among adult population. Current methods for treating the disease have several limitations. Inspired by fern leaves, we have developed a new stent, called leaf stent, which can provide a tailored coverage at the neck of an aneurysm and thus prevent the blood from entering the aneurysm. It alone can be used to treat the cerebral aneurysm and therefore overcomes problems existing in current treating methods. The paper focuses on the numerical simulation of the leaf stents. The mechanical behaviour of the stent in various designs has been investigated using the finite element method. It has been found that certain designs provide adequate radial force and have excellent longitudinal flexibility. The performance of certain leaf stents is comparable and even superior to those of the commercially available cerebral stents such as the Neuroform stent and the Enterprise stent, commonly used for stent assisted coiling, while at the same time, providing sufficient coverage to isolate the aneurysm without using coils.

  • With the growing number of web services, there arise issues of finding suitable services. But, the traditional keyword search method is insufficient for two reasons: (1) this does not capture the underlying semantics of web services. (2) this does not suffice for accurately specifying users' information needs. In order to overcome limitations of this keyword search method, we propose a novel syntactic analysis and ontology learning method. The syntactic analysis method gives us a breadth of coverage for common terms, while the ontology learning method gives a depth of coverage by providing relationships. By combining these two methods, we hope to improve both the recall and the precision. We describe an experimental study on a collection of 508 web services that shows the high recall and precision of our method.

  • In surgical treatment of the malignant melanoma, radical resection and a sentinel lymph node biopsy are essential procedures to eradicate the tumor and to minimize the risk of local recurrence. For the reconstruction of skin defect after tumor resection, a skin graft has been generally performed procedure. However, if tendon or bone is exposed after tumor resection, simple skin graft is not enough for the coverage of the defect and additional procedure is mandatory. In this study, we reviewed the clinical results of 16 patients, who had been diagnosed with malignant melanoma of the limb and underwent surgical resection and reconstruction of the defect with various methods. The sentinel lymph node dissection was performed in all patients combined with radical excision of the tumor. In 11 cases of positive sentinel lymph nodes, further elective lymph node dissections were performed. The mean tumor invasion depth was 4.54 mm (2~10 mm), and AJCC stage II was most common (9 cases). The pedicled flaps were performed in 10 cases for the reconstruction of defects. All flaps were successfully survived without significant complications until the last follow up. In conclusion, a pedicled flap coverage is very useful reconstruction strategy for the soft tissue defects after radical resection of malignant melanoma.

  • In this paper, we investigated the performance of directional and omnidirectional precoding schemes when transmitting to improve downlink performance in massive MIMO. Omnidirectional precoding was used to broadcast a common signal, such as a synchronization or control signal, to all users. The main purpose of omnidirectional precoding is to design the precoding matrix so that the signal transmitted in the downlink is the same in all directions and emitted with maximum energy. We propose a flexible omnidirectional precoding method for full-dimensional massive MIMO that can set the spatial coverage range to less than 120 degrees. The constraints of omnidirectionality of all antennas, equal transmit power, and maximum transmit rate are used to design the encoding matrix of the proposed method. The performance was evaluated in terms of spatial coverage by considering changing the spatial coverage of the antenna array by changing the distance between neighboring antennas in the antenna array.

  • This paper presents an implementation methodology of common Rf- integrated PCS base station system which, is capable of providing PCS services for 3 PCS carriers concurrently and wireless system performance evaluation data is shown. We have built up a common PCS base station system using a commonization module, which is consisted of a multi-channel combiner, duplexer, LNA, power divider, feeder line, and a common set of antennas. It was shown that the performance of the system within the total 30MHz PCS frequency range is uniformly acceptable and measured signal quality and coverage are equivalent to that of the individual PCS base station. It is expected that PCS carriers are able to save a huge amount of installation and maintenance expenses by installing and sharing this base station system. This paper forms a groundwork for deploying efficient and economical IMT-2000 network.

  • Cranioplasties are common procedures in plastic surgery. The use of tissue expansion (TE) in staged cranioplasties is less common. We present two cases of cranioplasties with TE and systematically review literature describing the use of TE in staged cranioplasties and postoperative outcomes. A systematic review was performed by querying multiple databases. Eligible articles include published case series, retrospective reviews, and systematic reviews that described use of TE for staged bony cranioplasty. Data regarding study size, patient demographics, preoperative characteristics, staged procedure characteristics, and postoperative outcomes were collected. Of 755 identified publications, 26 met inclusion criteria. 85 patients underwent a staged cranioplasty with TE. Average defect size was 122 cm2, and 30.9% of patients received a previous reconstruction. Average expansion period was 14.2 weeks. The most common soft tissue closures were performed with skin expansion only (75.3%), free/pedicled flap (20.1%), and skin graft (4.7%). The mean postoperative follow-up time was 23.9 months. Overall infection and local complication rates were 3.53 and 9.41%, respectively. The most common complications were cerebrospinal fluid leak (7.1%), hematoma (7.1%), implant exposure (3.5%), and infection (3.5%). Factors associated with higher complication rates include the following: use of alloplastic calvarial implants and defects of congenital etiology (p = 0.023 and 0.035, respectively). This is the first comprehensive review to describe current practices and outcomes in staged cranioplasty with TE. Adequate soft tissue coverage contributes to successful cranioplasties and TE can play a safe and effective role in selected cases.

  • In this study, it aims to research for unified system of "the surveying and geospatial information management" and new National geoSpatial Information Infrastructure(NSDI) as new paradigm against the strategy of "global geospatial information management". The country's existing NGIS projects and the policies of spatial information were examined in this paper, then it was defined newly by modification of NSDI's data coverage with bottom-up method. The new NSDI strategy is based on large scale digital map which was influenced by the local and global trend such as open data, e-Government, Earth observation, etc. (refer to Fig. 1). It was also suggested with new concept of NSDI model that the public-private sharing data can be added to digital map on equal term with spatial core data. (refer to Fig. 2) It is proposed the institutional model of MOLIT(Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport) as new concept of NSDI which was applied(refer to Fig. 4). The new model is improving localization and reinforcing cooperation system with not only the other departments within the MOLIT but also the other ministries(forestry, environment, agriculture, heritage, etc.) from independent operation system as a part informatization of land, infrastructure and transport. At the new SDI institutional model of the MOLIT, the spatial information is reorganized as common data infrastructure for all applications, Goverment 3.0 can be feasible according to common data related to government agencies and local government's data vertically or horizontally. And then, it can be practical strategy model to integrate and link all the map and the register which are managed by the laws and institutions if this unified system as a common data can include all spatial core data(digital map), such as base map data of NGA(national gespatial agency), land data and facility data of local government.

  • Background: Cervical cancer is one of the most common cancers among women worldwide, and in Thailand is the second most common cancer among women. In 2008, a national cervical cancer screening programme was implemented in Thailand, but coverage remains relatively low. Objectives: The purpose of the study was to investigate whether cervical cancer screening uptake is associated with the area of residency in Thailand. Materials and Methods: A case-control study was carried out in women aged 30 to 60 year-old, who live in Sikhiu district, Nakhon Ratchasima province, Thailand. Structured-questionnaires were used to interview 226 women (cases) who had attended cervical cancer screening in the last five years and 226 women (controls) who had not. Multiple logistic regression was used to investigate the association between the area of residency and cervical cancer screening uptake. Results: After controlling for parity, marital status and duration of hormonal contraceptive use, an association between the area of residence and cervical cancer screening uptake could not demonstrated ($OR_{adj}$ 1.27, 95%CI: 0.79, 2.04). Conclusions: We found no evidence to suggest remoteness to health care center led to lower cervical cancer screening uptake.

  • With the market evaluation of economic globalization exchanges between different cultures, cultural trade has been developing at an accelerated speed, and also playing an important role in East Asian intra-regional trade. In this research the author used gravity trade model to explain the causal relationship between dependent variable trade flows and several independent variables applying with five categories cultural goods which classified in HS codes. Firstly for cultural heritage trade flow, the results indicated that economic masses of bilateral countries have no significant influences on it; GDP per capita of host country and adjacency factor with partner country have significant negative influences on it; Internet coverage ratio has improved cultural heritages exchanges in East Asian regions. Secondly for printed matter cultural goods trade flow, the distance factor has significant negative influence but common language has significant positive influence on it. Thirdly for recorded media cultural goods, only economic masses and GDP per capita of bilateral countries can improved their trade flows. Fourthly for visual arts cultural products trade flows, almost all variables we tested have significant influences on it. Fifthly for cinema photography cultural goods trade flow, the influenced factor are same with cultural heritage products except they have strong positive interaction relationship with economic masses and common language. At last, the paper figured out some important and potential sectors for cultural goods trade in East Asia and gave some suggestions to government and cultural goods product enterprises.
