타워용 태양열발전 시스템 흡수기 기술동향 (Technical Trend of Receiver for Solar Power Tower)

  • For the development of solar thermal power tower plant from the early 80' to today, various kinds of receiver have been tested and evaluated. Most of 1st generation receiver used water/steam as a working fluid to operate steam turbine and now the first commercial solar power tower PS-10 also makes saturated steam. However, to increase thermal efficiency of storage system and to obtain practical use of solar energy, molten salt system have been used from THEMIS project in France at 1984. The Solar Tres plant of 17 MWe power generation will be constructed in Spain and have plan to operate 24 hours in summer. The air volumetric receiver system can be integrated with combined cycle of gas turbine and HRSG and also with steam turbine easily. Therefore, related researches to develop higher efficient solar power tower plant and to operate with stable are widely performed in the world.

Backstepping Control of a Buck-Boost Converter in an Experimental PV-System

  • This paper presents a nonlinear method to control a DC-DC converter and track the Maximum Power Point (MPP) of a Photovoltaic (PV) system. A backstepping controller is proposed to regulate the voltage at the input of a buck-boost converter by means of Lyapunov functions. To make the control initially faster and avoid local maximum, a regression plane is used to estimate the reference voltages that must be obtained to achieve the MPP and guarantee the maximum power extraction, modifying the conventional Perturb and Observe (P&O) method. An experimental platform has been designed to verify the validity and performance of the proposed control method. In this platform, a buck-boost converter has been built to extract the maximum power of commercial solar modules under different environmental conditions.

  • Arc power is consumed energy per unit time between welding electrodes. The relations between consumed energy and electrode distance, current, voltage are nonlinear characteristics. Therefore commercial A.C. wattmeter cannot be used for measurement of the arc power. Most of arc energy measuring systems are developed for relay contact arc measurement. Relaly arc requires integrated instantaneous power because relay arc finishes in a short instant. But most of welding powers are continually consumed powers, therefore instantaneous power must be continually indicated in the form of averagy value. The author propose a new measurement method of power in which the current and voltage of welding electrode is multiplied and the resultant signal is passed to low pass filter in order to remove higher order frequency components. After integrating, the signal is devided by the integral interval and the results are stored in a computer memory.

  • 본 논문은 서로 다른 크기의 교류 전원을 인가하더라도 균일한 소비 전력과 광 효율을 나타낼 수 있는 이종 전원 지원 AC LED 구동 장치를 설계 하였다. 서로 다른 크기의 입력 전압과 편차를 설정하여, 두 입력전압에서 전기적 광 특성이 동일함을 확인 하였다. 또한 교류 전원의 피크전압에 따라 특정 LED 구간에서 발생하는 미 점등을 개선하여, 모든 상용 교류 입력 전압에서 전 구간 LED 점등을 구현하였다.

  • This paper presents a design of vertical axis Darrieus wind turbine combine with Savonius for wind-power generating system to be adapted for variable wind speed. The wind turbine consists of two troposkien- and four Savonius-blades. Darrieus turbine is designed with diameter 9.4[m], chord length 380[mm], tip speed ratio 5. Savonius turbine is designed with diameter 1.8[m], height 2[m], tip speed ratio 0.95. The design of turbine is laid for the main data of rated wind speed 10[m/s], turbine speed 101.4[rpm]. The generating power is estimated to maximum power 20[kW], and this is converted to commercial power line by means of three phase synchronous generator-inverter system. Generating system is designed for operation on VSVF(variable speed variable frequency) condition and constant voltage system.

  • This paper shows a new concept of digital power meter based on the optical sensing technique. The digital power meter with isolate IC so called Photocoupler is designed and implemented. The system composed of power and analong interface circuits, micro-controller and LCD display circuits. The most errors in power meter happen on measurement and calculation process for load voltages and currents. The suggested method on this paper is to use no noise sensor and PIC microprocessor. The results of simple test for power meter prototype are showed a nearly similar date to commercial product.

  • The accurate analysis on railway traction power system should be carried out a load forecast preferentially. Commonly, it has been performed through Train Performance Simulator (TPS). In the study focused on velocity or location of train, however, the electric power consumption have been computed by converting mechanical power according to given velocity. Therefore, this paper presents a development of a mathematical model for electric load. The proposed load model is expressed as polynomial to reflect the influence of variance of train speed, that is, the model expresses the power as a function of train speed. in this study, method of the least squares method is used to find each coefficient and field test is performed to acquire data, electric power and speed of train in commercial running line.

A Simple Grid-Voltage-Sensorless Control Scheme for PFC Boost Converters

  • This paper introduces a simple grid-voltage-sensorless control scheme for single-phase power factor correction (PFC) boost converters. The grid voltage waveform is obtained based on the dc output voltage, the switching duty ratio, and a phase-lead compensator. In addition, the duty ratio feedback is utilized to obtain the unity input power factor and the zero harmonic current. The proposed control scheme is designed and mathematically analyzed based on a small-signal model of PFC boost converters. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme, several simulations and experiments are carried out in two applications: an industrial power system with a 60 Hz grid frequency and a commercial aircraft application with a 400 Hz grid frequency.

Reliability: A Neglected Topic in the Power Electronics Curricula

  • This paper presents the approach followed to develop a course that introduces reliability into the design of power electronics converters. The course is part of the curriculum of a master of science in electrical engineering program, and it is aimed at providing reliability tools that can be used in a straightforward manner, while avoiding the mathematical intricacies. The reliability calculations are performed according to the Military Handbook 217, using the evaluation version of a commercial software package which greatly reduces the computational burden usually associated with this task. The course assessment shows that, after attending the course, students were able to improve the mean time between failures in a power-electronics converter, from a minimum of 5%, up to 100%.

  • This paper describes the development of KEPCO's 80MVA UPFC electromagnetic transient model and the analysis of its performance in the actual Korean power system. KEPCO's 80MVA UPFC is currently undergoing installation and will be ready for commercial operation from the year 2003. In order to apply a new FACTS device such as the UPFC to the actual power system, the utility needs, in advance, both load flow stability studies and transient studies. Therefore, KEPRI, the research institute of KEPCO, developed a detailed transient analysis model that is based on the actual UPFC S/W algorithm and H/W specifications. This simulation model is implemented by an EMTDC/PSCAD package. The results of the simulation show the effectiveness of UPFC operation in the KEPCO power system.
