This paper aims to examine the local changes in which the introduction of new fishery technology in small remote island, Geomun-Do, had resulted. The main findings are as follows. With the help of introduction of new fishery technology, local fishery industry transformed self-sufficient one into commercial one. This led to increase in the productivity of fishery industry and, subsequently, the emergence of new social system and processing facilities. The growth of fisheries, which led the opening of fishing market and the development of processing industry, made it change local industrial structure. This paper focused particularly on local cultural transformation revealed in the process of the introduction of new fishery technology. In conclusion, the paper argues that the pace of cultural transformation can be selectively appeared by the qualitative characteristics of locality and social group, when new cultural elements are introduced and adapted to a certain locality.
Beside that the fish species and their sub-populations are highly important as a keystone species in the coastal and marine ecosystem, there are very few studies on their presence, distribution and temporal variations within and around the lagoon ecosystems in Albania. This paper provides an updated review on the life cycle, fishery, exploitation state and management of the main species that are subject of commercial fishing in the Karavasta lagoon, southeastern Adriatic coast of Albania. Due to the fact that lagoons represent a continuum between continental and marine aquatic ecosystems they play a crucial role in species life cycles. Further on in the circumstances of rapid utilizations and environmental changes, anomalies in salinity and temperatures, accelerated anthropogenic influences their rate of vulnerability is highly increased. Following the requirements of the Water Framework Directive, transitional water, coastal lagoons and estuaries there is a need for urgent monitoring and management approaches. The commercial species include: European eel (Anguilla anguilla), species of Family Mugilidae (Mugil cephalus, Liza ramada, Liza salienes and Chelon labrosus), Seabream (Sparus aurata), Seabass (Dincentrarchus labrax), etc. Fish productivity is oscillating from maximum value of 61.95 kg/ha is recorded in period of 1975-80 and lower value of 31 kg/ha in year 2020. Our study highlights importance of fish and fishery long-term monitoring, and contributes to understand the driving factors in productivity, migration patterns and species ecology in the vital coastal ecosystems.

South and North Korean fisheries cooperation has not been attained since 1950's political situation, and the major fishery resources of Korean peninsula also has not been cooperatively managed by South and North Korea. Furthermore, the species inhabiting the Korean peninsula region with commercial value are usually maintaining the single ecosystem which requires for cooperative management of fishery resources for continuous fishery. Therefore, in order for South and Korean fishery industry to develop the political situation to a rational direction, present condition of North's fishery industry must be accurately understood and acknowledge in its point of issues, also as level to prepare for future unification, reform and reaction of long-termed and well organized South and North's fisheries program must be arranged.
In order to evaluate the effectiveness of management measures and to provide policy suggestions for the allocation of total allowable catch between recreational and commercial sectors, the economic value of red grouper recreational fishery in the United States Gulf of Mexico was estimated using a Travel Cost Method(TCM), Due to the characteristic of count data, a Poisson model(PM) and a Negative binomial model(NBM) were used in the TCM. Results of models showed that the NBM was statistically more suitable than the PM since the overdispersion problem occurred in the PM. Results also indicated all signs of the estimated parameters were as expected and were significant, except for a Boat parameter in both models. Based on the results of NBM, the total economic value of the recreational red grouper fishery was estimated to be $\$698.6$ and the value per trip was $\$179.5$. In addition, the total changes in expected consumer surplus due to changes in catch rates was $ \$42.3$.

This study was conducted to the amount of pesticide residue in 21 different kinds of 100 commercial flowering teas. Multi-residue analyses of 203 pesticides was performed using the GC-ECD, GC-NPD, GC-MSD, and LC-MS/MS. Pesticide residues were detected in 4 samples (4%) of which 4 samples (4%) violated the maximum residue limits. 4 samples violating the limit were all imported teas. Pesticides detected were chlorpyrifos, flufenoxuron, lufenuron, pyrimethanil and methoxyfenozide. These results indicate the need of continuous monitoring of pesticide residue needs for safety of flowering teas.
The aim of this study is to overview what changes happened on the maritime field during the early Meiji period, how the compilation of 'Japan Fisheries' linked to the changes, and when the 'Japan Fisheries' was launched, completed and published. The trilogy of Japan Fishing Method, Japan Fishery Products, and Japan's Useful Marine Products are called "Japan's Fishery." These were completed in 1895 for almost ten years since the compilation project was launched in 1886 at the Agricultural and Commercial Ministry. Japan Fishing Method selected, improved and recorded excellent fishing and fishing methods in various Japanese regions at that time whereas Japan Fisheries Products chose excellent fish products from various methods of manufacturing and recorded the enactment and sale of fishery products. Japan's Useful Marine Products is not currently passed on, so it is not known what kind of useful marine products are recorded. However, it can be assumed that the classification method of the "Japanese Fishing Classification Table" published in 1889 was based on the Japan Fishing Index. The cited texts in Japan Fisheries Products are up to 55 documents, including Engisiki and Wakansanzaizukai's "Report of the Great Japan Fishery Association," "Ariticle of the Fisheries Fair," "The Western Fishery Manufacturing Technique" and "Trade Situation with China." Completed with extensive research from old books to the latest fishery information, "Japan's Fishery" is Japan's best "Marine Products Encyclopedia" at the time. It is also a valuable literature that can trace fishing and fishing techniques and methods of manufacturing marine products in each Japanese fishing village before the end of the nineteenth century.
This article analyzes the interdependency between nonrenewable marine sand resources and renewable fishery resources by the developed dynamic bioeconomic model. The developed bioeconomic model is applied to a case study of efficient sustainable management for marine sand mining, which adversely affects a valuable blue crab fishery and its habitat in Korea. The socially-efficient extraction plan for marine sand and the time-variant environmental external costs to society in terms of diminished harvest rate of blue crab are determined. To take into account long-term effects from destroyed fishery habitat, a Beverton-Holt age structure model is integrated into the bioeconomic model. The illustrative results reveal that the efficient sand extraction plan is dynamically constrained by the stock size of the blue crab fishery over time. Thus, the dynamic environmental external cost is more realistic resource policy option than the classical fixed external cost for determining socially optimal extraction plans. Additionally, the economic value of bottom habitat, which supports the on- and off-site commercial blue crab fishery is estimated. The empirical results are interpreted with emphasis on guidelines for management policy for marine sand mining.
This study was conducted to understand the quality characteristics of 89 types of commercial salt-fermented fishery products by measuring their physiochemical compositions and biogenic amine contents. All samples had the following measurements; 41.59-89.20 g/100 g of moisture, 1.71-25.70 g/100 g of salinity, 3.21-7.05 of pH, 0.80-2.93 g/100 g of total nitrogen, 87.02-1,296.78 mg/100 g of amino nitrogen, and 7.30-926.34 mg/100 g of volatile basic nitrogen. The physicochemical components differed extensively between samples from different raw materials, including, fish, shellfish, and others. Histamine (0 to 1,072.2 mg/kg), putrescine (0 to 2,536.4 mg/kg), cadaverine (0 to 545.2 mg/kg of cadaverine), tryptamine (0 to 1,287.9 mg/kg), and tyramine (11.3 to 563.3 mg/kg) were the major biogenic amines detected in the samples. These findings suggest that salt-fermented fishery products meet the domestic criteria but have different ingredient compositions and most had high biogenic amine contents. The results suggest that it is necessary to establish criteria for evaluating the quality characteristics using the ingredient composition and biogenic amine contents of commercial salt-fermented fishery products.

The purpose of this study was to investigate 253 kinds of pesticide residues in 58 commercial dried agricultural products in Seoul. The determinations of the pesticide residues were performed using multiresidue methods and were carried out by a gas chromatography-nitrogen phosphorus detector (GC-NPD), an electron capture detector ($GC-{\mu}ECD$), a mass spectrometry detector (GC-MSD) and high performance liquid chromatography-ultraviolet detector (HPLC-UV), and a fluorescence detector (HPLC-FLD). The pesticide residue detection rate in the commercial dried agricultural products was 24.1% (14 of 58 samples). Twelve pesticide residues without maximum residue limits (MRLs) were detected. In the vegetable groups, the frequency of pesticide residues was found to be in the increasing order of dried fruiting vegetables > dried leafy vegetables > dried stalk and stem vegetables. The pesticides used on dried red pepper in the dried fruiting vegetables were varied (7 kinds) and numerous (4 of 8 samples). The pesticide types detected in the commercial dried agricultural products were in the order of pyrethroid > organochloride > organophosphorus and insecticide > fungicide > herbicide ${\cdot}$ nematicide. The primary pyrethroid pesticide detected was cypermethrin. According to the producing areas of products, large numbers of pesticide residues were found in the order of Korea, China, North Korea, USA, and Vietnam.
Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) is one of the main causes of viral encephalitis in human and animals. For over 30 years, a live attenuated JEV vaccine strain has been used in the veterinary field, and it is required to conduct quality evaluation studies on the commercial vaccines. For the quality control of live attenuated JEV vaccine, we investigated the nucleotide sequence similarity of prME gene derived from five JEV vaccines commercially available in pigs in Korea. The Vero cells infected with JEV vaccines showed specific cytopathic effect, which was characterized by rounding and detached cells. In the phylogenetic analysis, all of the vaccine strains showed a close relationship with the original vaccine seed strain (Anyang 300) and clustered into the genotype 3. In comparison of the nucleotide and deduced amino acid sequences of prME genes with the original strain, all JEV vaccine strains showed high amino acid similarity ranging from 98.9% to 99.5%, but had several point mutations, probably due to high mutation rates of viral RNA polymerase by several virus passages. Even though the current JEV vaccine strains have been maintained and produced for a long period of time, the genetic characterization of them have been rarely changed. However, since the mid 1990's, molecular epidemiology of JEV has been changed sharply from genotype 3 to genotype 1 in Korea, further studies on new vaccine strains to genotype 1 is required for more effective prevention in the field.
