Two-phase flow in a combustion chamber is experimentally analyzed according to the five different conditions in the Reynolds number of $1.02{\times} 10^4$ As the height difference between the primary and secondary jets increases the secondary has a little effect on the primary. In the case of the same height difference the primary jet is affected as the velocity of secondary increases. The primary-jet flow field causes the particle concentration since the particle stagnation phenomena appear in the recirculation zone. The particle concentration is controlled by the velocity of secondary jet the height difference and the angle of primary jet in the test section.

Analyses for concentration, surface phenomena, and crystal structure were performed to identify the causes of clinker formation in three type of pulverized coal fired boilers. Some clinkers had partially molten surface and more CaO and $Fe_2O_3$ as compared with fly ash, and the major crystalline phases identified in the clinker were mullite and quartz. Clinkers were formed in high temperature zone of the boiler according to the identification of mullite by XRD. Free $SiO_2$ in sand combined with K, Na and Ca in limestone served as a fluxing agent to form clinkers in a circulating bed boiler.
To reveal the newly found liftoff height behavior of hydrogen jet, we have experimentally studied the stabilization mechanism of turbulent, lifted jet flames in a non-premixed condition. The objectives of the present research are to report the phenomenon of a liftoff height decreasing as increasing fuel velocity, to analyse the flame structure and behavior of the lifted jet, and to explain the mechanisms of flame stability in hydrogen turbulent non-premixed jet flames. The velocity of hydrogen was varied from 100 to 300m/s and a coaxial air velocity was fixed at 16m/s with a coflow air less than 0.1m/s. For the simultaneous measurement of velocity field and reaction zone. PIV and OH PLIF technique was used with two Nd:Yag lasers and CCD cameras. As results, it has been found that the stabilization of lifted hydrogen diffusion flames is related with a turbulent intensity, which means that combustion occurs where the local flow velocity is valanced with the turbulent flame propagation velocity.

In this study, the computer program was developed to predict the engine performances and exhaust emissions of a 4-cylinder 4-stroke cycle ignition engine including intake and exhaust system. The simulation models applied to each process were as follows. For the combustion process, two zone model which requires only one empirical constant was applied, and for the gas exchange process, the method of characteristics that allows the calculations of the time variation and spatial variation of properties along the pipes was used. Constant pressure perfect mixing model was applied to take into account of the interaction at manifold branches. To predict exhaust emissions, twelve chemical species were considered to be present in combustion products. These species were calculated through equilibrium thermodynamics and kinetic theory. The empirical constants reduced to least number as possible were determined through the comparison with the experimental indicator diagram of one particular operating condition and these constants were applied to other operating conditions. The predicted performances and emissions were compared with the experimental results over the wide range of operating conditions.
Constant volume combustion chamber has been designed to investigate diesel spray characteristics with Common-Rail injection system to realize high pressure injection. In this study, two methods of measurements, Schlieren shadowgraphy and Mie scattering imaging method ate applied experimentally to study spray form and liquid phase zone in high pressure, high temperature conditions. Diesel fuel is injected at the point which ignited mixture gas is completely burned. The effect of injection pressure, injector hole diameter, ambient gas temperature and density are investigated experimentally.

A numerical parametric study is conducted to simulate shock-induced combustion with a variation in freestream conditions. The analysis is limited to inviscid flow and includes chmical nonequilibrium. A steady combustion front is established if the freestream Mach number is above the Chapman-Jouguet speed of the mixture. On the other, an unsteady reaction fi:ont is established if the freestream Mach number is below or at the Chapman-Jouguet speed of the mixture. The three cases have been simulated for Machs 4.18, 5.11, and 6.46 with a projectile diameter of 15 mm. Machs 4.18 and 5.11 shows an unsteady reaction front, whereas Mach 6.46 represents a steady reaction front. Thus Chapman-Jouguet speed is one of deciding factor for the instabilities to trigger. The instabilities of the chemical front with a variation of projectiles diameters will be investigated.
Spherically expanding flames are used to measure flame speeds, which are derived the corresponding laminar flame speeds at zero stretch. Dimethyl Ether-Air mixtures at high pressure are studied over an extensive range of equivalence ratios. The classical shadowgraph technique is used to detect the reaction zone. In analytical methodology the optimization process using least mean squares is performed to extract the laminar flame speeds. It is seen that the laminar flame speed of DME-Air mixture with the increase of pressure decreases rapidly showing a similar trend to other hydrocarbon fuels. At pressure of 2 and 10 atm the experimental data from the present study agree well with results reported in the literature. Especially the laminar flame speeds at 2 atm are in good agreement with those calculated in numerical work over the full stoichiometric range. At elevated pressure of 12 atm the measured data are slightly slower at fuel lean condition and show close agreement at fuel rich condition when compared with the numerical results.

An experimental investigation on the reduction of nitrogen oxide emission from swirling, turbulent diffusion flames was conducted using multi air staged combustor, The combustor utilizes swirler to dampen fuel/air mixing, allowing an extended residence time for fuel pyrolysis and fuel-N conversion chemistry in an locally fuel-rich environment prior to burnout. This process also allow to reduce thermal NOx formation to lessen the temperature of reaction zone. The aerodynamic process therefore emulates the conventional staged combustion process, but without the need for the physically separate fuel-rich and -lean stages. Parametric studies on the ratios of each staged air and droplet size were carried out the feasibility of fuel/air mixing for low NOx combustion with diesel and pyridine mixed diesel fuel oil.
Wear and corrosion of the engine parts surrounded with combustion chamber is more serious compared to the other parts of the engine because temperature of the exhaust gas in a combustion chamber is getting higher and higher with increasing of using the heavy oil of low quality. Therefore, an optimum repair weldment as well as an available choice of the base metal for these parts are very important to prolong their lifetime in a economical point of view. It reported that there was an experimental result for repair weldment on the forged steel which would be generally used with piston crown material, however, it is considered that there is no study for the repair weldment on the cast steel of piston crown material. In this study, four types of electrodes such as 1.25Cr-0.5Mo, 0.5Mo Inconel 625 and 718 were welded with SMAW and GTAW methods on the cast steel which would be generally used with piston crown material. And the corrosion properties of weld metal, heat affected zone and base metal were investigated using electrochemical methods such as measurement of corrosion potential, anodic polarization curves, cyclic voltammogram and impedance etc. in 35% $H_2SO_4$ solution. In the cases of Inconel 625, 718, the weld metals and base metals exhibited the best and worst corrosion resistance respectively, however, 1.25Cr-0.5Mo and 0.5Mo indicated that corrosion resistance of the base metal was better than the weld metal. And the weld metal welded with electrodes of Inconel 625 revealed the best corrosion resistance among the electrodes, and Inconel 718 followed the Inconel 625. Hardness relatively also indicated higher value in the weld metal compared to heat affected zone and base metal. In particular, Inconel 718 indicated the highest value of hardness compared to other electrodes in the heat affected zone.

An airbag is composed of housing assembly, door assembly, cushion assembly, and an inflator. The inflator is the essential part that generates gas for airbag. When an airbag is activated, it effectively absorbs the crash energy of the passenger by inflating a cushion. In this study, tank tests were performed with newly synthesized propellants with various compositions, and the results are compared with the numerical results. In the simulation of inflator, a zonal model has been adopted which consisted of four zones of flow regions: combustion chamber, filter, gas plenum, and discharge tank. Each zone was described by the conservation equations with specified constitutive relations for gas. The pressure and temperature of each zone of the inflator were calculated and analyzed and the results were compared with the tank test data. In the zone of discharge tank the pressure quickly rose, the pattern of pressure curve was very similar to the pressure curve of real test. And in zone 1 & 2 & 3 the mass of products was increased and decreased with time. In zone 4, the mass of products was increased with time like real inflator. From the similarity of pressure curve in zone 4 and closed bomb calculation the modeled results are well correlated with the experimental values.
