  • In this paper, we propose a new structure modeling algorithm from 3D cloud points of terrestrial LADAR data. Terrestrial LIDAR data have various obstacles which make it difficult to apply conventional algorithms designed for air-borne LIDAR data. In the proposed algorithm, the field data are separated into several clusters by adopting the structure extraction method which uses color information and Hough transform. And cluster based Delaunay triangulation technique is sequentially applied to model the artificial structure. Each cluster has its own priority and it makes possible to determine whether a cluster needs to be considered not. The proposed algorithm not only minimizes the effects of noise data but also interactively controls the level of modeling by using cluster-based approach.

  • Ground digital image data obtained by using DSLR camera can be used to the ground photogrammetry and spatial modeling. Intensity of each pixel in digital video images is the most important parameter to generate digital image. Therefore, it is needed to estimate the parameters and spectral characteristics of digital cameras in order to take more definite intensity data. In this study, using the Sony DSC-F828 DSLR camera, seven digital images are obtained by the continuous shooting. (frame rate, 0.38 seconds). And then extract the value of the intensity from RGB band of each digital color photographs to confirm difference of intensity between frames. The purpose of this study is to confirm spectral characteristics and changes and to estimate correlation through the analysis of statistical in each pixel of R, G, B band.

  • This study is about watching the changes in Modern and Contemporary ages, through Traditional Ottchil Painting analyzed the formative characteristics presented on 23 pieces of Najeon Master Bong-Ryong Kim. He restored and reproduced the Ottchil Painting Technique by making Najeon ware (lacquer ware inlaid with the mother-of-pearl) on the Korean Modern and Contemporary period. The formative characteristics of his Ottchil Painting Technique are as follows. He used a lot of the Myochilchaehoi Technique as the technique of expression, along with the Najeon Yanggam Technique mixed with Myochilchaehoi Technique. The frame material of Ottchil Painting Ware is handcrafted wood. And in the painting foundation, red is presented more than black. The colors of painting and the pattern drawn on the foundation of Ottchil painting are mainly bright red, blue, yellow, black, and white (five-color). The main pattern used is the dragon, and the subordinate patterns are clouds and Arabesque. Also, the main pattern is solo, and the subordinate pattern is mostly an arrangement combination of radiation symmetry. This style of art was most commonly used for painting fruit trays. As stated above, Bong-Ryong Kim presented various and masterful aesthetic quality based on sincere and exquisite Najeon ware production skills.

  • We report stray light modeling and analysis results for the current and proposed next generation ocean color imagers with Sun and the target area around Korean penninsular as viewed from geostationary orbit. The imagers used in this study are GOCI of 140mm in diameter and a proposed next generation GOCI (GOCI-II) of about 300mm in diameter. First, we built complete GOCI and GOCI-II 3D optical system models with the realistic surface characteristics. These optical models were incorporated into the in-house built Intergrated Ray Tracing (IRT) algorithm, connecting the Sun, the measurement target area and the instruments via single ray tracing computation for radiative transfer and scattering. The stray light level was then estimated for possible orbital configurations for science measurement and in-orbit calibration operation. The simulation details, results and their implications are presented.

  • The segmentation of moving object in video sequence is a core technique of intelligent image processing system such as video surveillance, traffic monitoring and human tracking. A typical method to segment a moving region from the background is the background subtraction. The steps of background subtraction involve calculating a reference image, subtracting new frame from reference image and then thresholding the subtracted result. One of famous background modeling is Gaussian mixture model (GMM). Even though the method is known efficient and exact, GMM suffers from a problem that includes false pixels in ROI (region of interest), specifically shadow pixels. These false pixels cause fail of the post-processing tasks such as tracking and object recognition. This paper presents a method for removing false pixels included in ROT. First, we subdivide a ROI by using shape characteristics of detected objects. Then, a method is proposed to classify pixels from using histogram characteristic and comparing difference of energy that converts the color value of pixel into grayscale value, in order to estimate whether the pixels belong to moving object area or shadow area. The method is applied to real video sequence and the performance is verified.

  • We recognize analysing and quantifying an effect of light and colors on people' psychological response changing according to environmental conditions as important. Therefore, this study intends to improve efficiency in realizing emotional design that contributes to creation of helpful and pleasant interior using architecture that is able to refresh human emotion or light and colors which are important factors in interior design. For the purpose, this study analyses an effect of colors in interior space and the effect of interaction between light and color through modeling to identify types of psychological response. And it is to present a generalized conclusion through an analysis of meaning of the two effects. The ultimate goal of this study is to identify the value and possibility of actual design. This study measures response on questionnaire through representative vocabulary by abstracting based on evaluation image selected through the 1st and 2nd preparatory research and grouping similar words. In next step, images represented both by light and colors are presented as virtual space and for data input and analysis based on psychological response corresponding to each image, this study uses SPSS 11.0 statistical package program to analyse data collected. The space to be experimented is a livingroom, a center of residential area.

  • These days, research related to Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) technology is being widely considered. ITS is inevitable for future transportation systems to reduce accidents, congestion, and offer a smooth flow of traffic. The use of Visible Light Communication (VLC) in ITS systems has been considered widely because of its EMC/EMI free and LED infrastructure reusable properties. Among the VLC schemes, this study analyzed the performance of the Color Shift Keying (CSK) scheme under a Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) downlink scenario to verify the capability of CSK as a communication tool for ITS. By modeling daylight noise using the modified Blackbody radiation model, this study examined the performance of V2I VLC under daytime conditions. The relationship between BER, the communication distance, and the amount of ambient-light noises under the pre-described V2I scenario were determined by simulations.

  • We presented a very fast and robust method of text line segmentation based on the DCT blocks of color image without decompression and binary transformation processes. Using DC and another three primary AC coefficients from block DCT we created a gray-scale image having reduced size by 8x8. In order to detect and locate white strips between text lines we analyzed horizontal and vertical projection profiles of the image and we applied a direct markov model to recover the missing white strips by estimating hidden periodicity. We presented performance results. The results showed that our method was 40 - 100 times faster than traditional method.

  • To cater to the transition from single-color to multicolor/multi-material printing, this paper proposes a cartridge-replacing type multi-nozzle Fused Depositon Modeling(FDM) three-dimensional (3D) printer. In the test printing run, tool change failure/wobble/layer shift occurred. It was confirmed that improper support was the cause of this tool change failure. As a solution, spline and electromagnetic cartridges were designed. Wobble was caused by machine vibration and the motor stepping out. To minimize wobble, an additional Z-axis was installed, and the four-point bed leveling method was used instead of the three-point bed leveling method. The occurrence of layer shift was ascribed to the eccentricity of the Z-axis lead screw. Therefore, slit coupler was replaced with an Oldham type. In addition to the mechanical supplementation, the control environment was integrated to prevent accidents and signal errors due to wire connections. Before the final test printing run, a rectifier circuit was added to the motor to secure precise control stability. The final test printing run confirmed that the wobble/layer shift phenomenon was minimized, and the maximum error between layers was reduced to 0.05.

  • human tyrosinase (hTyr) catalyzes first and the rate limiting step in the synthesis of polymerized pigment, melanin which determines skin, hair and eye colors. Mutation of hTyr often brings about decrease of melanin production and further albinism. Meanwhile, a number of cosmetic companies providing skincare products for woman in Asia-Pacific region have tried to develop inhibitors to bright skin color for several decades. In this study, we built a 3D structure by comparative modeling technique based on the crystal structure of tyrosinase from bacillus megaterium as a template to serve structural information of hTyr. According to our model and sequence analysis of type 3 copper protein family proteins, two copper atoms of active site located deep inside are coordinated with six strictly conserved histidine residues coming from four-helix-bundle. Cavity which accommodates substrates was like funnel shape of which entrance was wide and expose to solvent. In addition, protein-substrate and protein-inhibitor complex were modeled with the guide of van der waals surface generated by in house software. Our model suggested that only phenol group or its analogs can fill the binding site near nuclear copper center because inside of binding site has narrow shape relatively. In conclusion, the results of this study may provide helpful information for designing and screening new anti-melanogensis agents.
