  • Aiming at the problem of low contrast and difficult to recognize video images in low-light environment, we propose an adaptive contrast compensation enhancement algorithm based on human visual perception. First of all, the video image characteristic factors in low-light environment are extracted: AL (average luminance), ABWF (average bandwidth factor), and the mathematical model of human visual CRC(contrast resolution compensation) is established according to the difference of the original image's grayscale/chromaticity level, and the proportion of the three primary colors of the true color is compensated by the integral, respectively. Then, when the degree of compensation is lower than the bright vision precisely distinguishable difference, the compensation threshold is set to linearly compensate the bright vision to the full bandwidth. Finally, the automatic optimization model of the compensation ratio coefficient is established by combining the subjective image quality evaluation and the image characteristic factor. The experimental test results show that the video image adaptive enhancement algorithm has good enhancement effect, good real-time performance, can effectively mine the dark vision information, and can be widely used in different scenes.

  • A 46-year-old man who had worked as a bumper spray painter in an automobile body shop for 15 years developed lung cancer. The patient was a nonsmoker with no family history of lung cancer. To determine whether the cancer was related to his work environment, we assessed the level of exposure to carcinogens during spray painting, sanding, and heat treatment. The results showed that spray painting with yellow paint increased the concentration of hexavalent chromium in the air to as much as $118.33{\mu}g/m^3$. Analysis of the paint bulk materials showed that hexavalent chromium was mostly found in the form of lead chromate. Interestingly, strontium chromate was also detected, and the concentration of strontium chromate increased in line with the brightness of the yellow color. Some paints contained about 1% crystalline silica in the form of quartz.

  • This paper presents a method of HDR imaging with adaptive saturation compensation for brightness change. The saturation of HDR images were lighten on dark region because conventional HDR methods have focused on brightness change. Therefore, the proposed HDR method compensates saturation adaptively according to brightness change. For experiments of several images, the proposed algorithm is superior to conventional HDR methods qualitatively and quantitatively in terms of color saturation.

  • This paper presents an adaptive Retinex algorithm for improving dynamic range of image representation. The proposed Retinex algorithm detects degraded brightness by using skewness and the degraded components are compensated with local statistics. In particular, we propose a new compensation function for dynamic range so that effectinve image representation can be achieved. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm has the capability to improve the dynamic range with reduction of color degradation.

  • In this paper, fuzzy logic controllers are designed for compensation of distance errors. Because we can't know information of the depth in a mono camera, these errors are occurred. Also, they are increased as a target object is to keep away from a center of image. Therefore, the errors for each position of joints of an arm robot should be modeled, but accurate models can't be obtained because of no information of the depth, uncertain feature points of image, parameter uncertainties, and illumination. Hence, fuzzy logic controllers for each error are designed for compensation. This paper consists of color image processing, error modeling, and the controller design. Experimental results are given to verify the effectiveness of our proposed method.

  • The field sequential liquid crystal display (FSLCD) does not need a color filter so that it is suitable for high resolution display. However, FSLCD has a drawback which requires a fast response time of sub-5 ms. We have studied the FSLCD with electrically controlled birefringence (ECB) mode. The ECB mode exhibits fast response time, high transmittance, low operating voltage and adequate viewing angle with a help of optical compensation films. In this paper, we present electro-optic characteristics of the ECB mode using a discotic film.

  • A correlation exists between luminance samples and chrominance samples of a color image. It is beneficial to exploit such interchannel redundancy for color image compression. We propose an algorithm that predicts chrominance components Cb and Cr from the luminance component Y. The prediction model is trained by supervised learning with Laplacian-regularized least squares to minimize the total prediction error. Kernel principal component analysis mapping, which reduces computational complexity, is implemented on the same point set at both the encoder and decoder to ensure that predictions are identical at both the ends without signaling extra location information. In addition, chrominance subsampling and entropy coding for model parameters are adopted to further reduce the bit rate. Finally, luminance information and model parameters are stored for image reconstruction. Experimental results show the performance superiority of the proposed algorithm over its predecessor and JPEG, and even over JPEG-XR. The compensation version with the chrominance difference of the proposed algorithm performs close to and even better than JPEG2000 in some cases.

  • It is difficult to use a recognition algorithm of an image in a foggy environment because the color and edge information is removed. One of the famous defogging algorithm is haze removal by using 'Dark Channel Prior(DCP)' which is used to predict for transmission rate using color information of an image and eliminates fog from the image. However, in case that the image has factors such as sunset or yellow dust, there is overemphasized problem on the color of certain channel after haze removal. Furthermore, in case that the image includes an object containing high RGB channel, the transmission related to this area causes a misestimated issue. In this paper, we purpose an enhanced fog elimination algorithm by using improved color normalization and haze rate revision which correct mis-estimation haze area on the basis of color information and edge information of an image. By eliminating the color distortion, we can obtain more natural clean image from the haze image.

  • Today, modern people perceive skin care as part of their physical health care, and acne is a common skin disease problem that is found on the face. In this paper, an effective acne detection algorithm using CIE $L^*a^*b^*$ color space has been proposed. It is red when the pixel value of the component image $a^*$ is a positive number, so it is suitable for detecting acne in skin image. First, the skin image based on the RGB color space is subjected to light compensation through color balancing, and converted into a CIE $L^*a^*b^*$ color space. The extracted component image $a^*$ was normalized, and then the skin and acne area were estimated with the threshold values. Experimental results show that the proposed method detects acne more effectively than the conventional method based on brightness information, and the proposed method is robust against the reflected light source.

  • In this paper, we propose the simplified and improved system of One Color Detector to protect color distortion of simple color images in the processed of Auto White Balance (AWB). The proposed One Color Detector is based on Grayworld algorithm which controls color compensation except one color in simple image and widely applies for mobile phone camera because of high efficiency. This system can be suitable for diverse image size, and let user control the threshold in diverse size and environments compared with conventional system. Also the hardware size of the proposed system is reduced by 80% over that of the conventional one.
