  • In August 2001, pod rot of cowpea caused by Choanephora cucurbitarum was found in the experimental fields of the Gyeongsangnam-do Agricultural Research and Extension Services, Korea. Initial symptoms of the disease were the appearance of water-soaked, dark-green lesions and followed by rapid rotting of the infected tissues. As the disease progressed, whitish mycelia and monosporous sporangiophore with monosporous sporangiola were produced on the lesions. The fungus produced white to pale yellowish brown mycelia with scattered monosporous sporangiophore and monosporous sporangia containing sporangiospores on potato dextrose agar (PDA). Monosporous sporangiophore was long, slender and branched at the apex, with each branch bearing a sporangiospore. Sporangium was subglobose in shape and 42.6-112.6 ㎛ in size. Monosporous sporangiola were elliptic, fusiform or ovoid, brown in color, and 9.8-23.4$\times$7.2-12.8 ㎛ in size. Sporangiospores were elliptic, fusiform or ovoid in shape, dark brown or brown in color, 12.9-24.6$\times$8.6-15.4 ㎛ in size, and had three or more appendages. Zygospores were black and 43.6-72.4 ㎛ in size. The fungus grew on PDA at 15-40$\^{C}$, and optimum temperature was 30$\^{C}$. This is the first report on pod rot of cowpea caused by C. cucurbitarum in Korea.

  • In April 2002 and 2003, soft rot on fruit of eggplant (Solanum melongena) caused by Choanephora cucurbitarum was observed in the experimental fields at Gyeongnam Agricultural Research and Extension Services in Korea. The disease began with water-soaking and dark-green lesions, and then the infected tissues were rapidly rotten. Sporangium was subglobose in shape and sized $40{\sim}130\;{\mu}m$. Monosporous sporangiola were elliptic, fusiform or ovoid, brown in color, and measured as $12{\sim}20\;{\times}\;6{\sim}14\;{\mu}m$. Sporangiospores having three or more appendages were elliptic, fusiform or ovoid in shape, dark brown or brown in color, and sized $14{\sim}20\;{\times}7{\sim}16\;{\mu}m$. The fungus grew well on potato dextrose agar between 15 and $40^{\circ}C$ and its optimum growth temperature was $30^{\circ}C$. Based on morphological characteristics, the causal fungus of the fruit soft rot of eggplant was identified as C. cucurbitarum. This is the first report on the soft rot of S. melongena caused by C. cucurbitarum in Korea.

  • We study a manuscript that includes 28 oriental constellations in the flags of barracks in Gangjin. According to the Joseon Chronicles, the constellation flags in the manuscript are thought to have originated from Seon-Pil Kim (金善弼) who first made 28 constellation flags for the barracks in 1878 during the Joseon Dynasty. Seon-Pil Kim was a commander and he used the 28 constellation flags for communications in a military camp. The flags also contain 28 animals and letter-like symbols with constellation maps. We examine the constellation maps in flags in terms of shapes and number of stars, and compare them with those of constellations in the Korean and Chinese star charts such as CheonSangYeolChaBunYaJiDo (天象列次分野之圖), Joseon-Butienge (朝鮮步天歌), Suzhou (蘇州) Star Chart, and Tang-Butiange (唐步天歌). Finally, we found that the shape of constellations in the flags might be similar to those in the Chinese Tang-Butienge. We also found several errors such as the shape, connecting pattern, and number of constellations drawn in the flags. It seems that the constellation flags were unofficially used in military camps in the late Joseon dynasty. Meanwhile, the 28 constellations are divided into four groups and each group has its own color and direction. We suppose that the constellation flags might represent the positions of military camps and each group of flags has their own color based on their cardinal points.

  • This study is for analyzing relationship between clothing and shoes design in the 20th century fashion through studying changes of fashion style. At the beginning of the 20th century, the length of skirts became shorten, so that shoes can be shown. For the result of that. shoes has been developed rapidly in its shape, color, material and ornament with having relations with clothes. The 1st World War made fashion to change into economical style. According to that, shoes also changed with regarding its activities and economical efficiency. In the middle of the 20th century. according to the development of mass media. the stars fashion influenced on the trends of clothes and shoes. As young generation. who leads fashion trends, prefer easy and active clothes, shoes also changed into easy style, sneakers were worn widely and platform sole was applied into various shoes. As a result of this study, shoes design was dynamically changed according to fashion style. The study on its functional efficiency is actively studied now however. the study of shoes design is not. When regarding shoes were always worn with clothes, it is impossible to think shoes and clothes are two things. and also I hope the study on relations between clothes and shoes can be more active and consistently implemented.

  • A company's plan to reform its products' image cannot obtain expected results unless a color plan is included in the reformation plan. A color plan is essential since color conveys to customers much information on function, shape, and material quality of the product. In other words, color is the essential dimension or criteria that customers use when evaluating the quality of goods. Despite the importance of a color plan, companies in Korea are still behind in researching and receiving 'color information' compared to those in more advanced countries. Recognizing the importance of products color, many international companies constantly make their efforts to predict trendy colors and preferred styles of customers before they develop products. It is suggested that domestic companies invest more in color infrastructure to be more successful in making products which can catch the customers' eyes and emotion. Different life styles by age, income level, and gender would be only a few of many factors to be investigated to build color plans for a product. In this study, it is attempted to see the color tendency of young generation by gender, and also to analyze empirically the influence of product's color on its image and customers' behavior. The results are analyzed with frequency analysis, cross tabulation analysis, T-test, one-way ANOVA using SPSS Win 12. The results of this study show that color preference, product image and product attitude are influenced by product's color, and color is an important factor for forming additional emotional value together with the product's original functional value. Judging from the findings, it is recommended that a company undertake careful research before developing a product to find out how customers respond differently to products in different colors especially when the product belongs to the product category where color is considered to be a determinant factor in terms of choosing a brand.

  • This paper describes image processing techniques that can detect, segment, and analyze the mango's physical properties such as size, shape, surface area, and color from images. First, images of mangoes taken by a digital camera are analyzed and segmented. The segmentation is done based on constructed hue model of the sample mangoes. Some morphological and filtering techniques are then applied to clean noises before fitting spline curve on the mango boundary. From the clean segmented image, the mango projected area can be computed. The shape of the mango is then analyzed using some structuring models. Color is also spatially analyzed and indexed in the database for future classification. To obtain the surface area, the mango is peeled. The scanned image of its peels is then segmented and filtered using similar approach. With calibration parameters, the surface area could then be computed. We employed the system to evaluate physical properties of a mango cultivar called "Nam Dokmai". There were sixty mango samples in three various sizes graded by an experienced farmer's eyes and hands. The results show the techniques could be a good alternative and more feasible method for grading mango comparing to human's manual grading.

  • For an effective pre-treatment process of a face input image, it is necessary to detect each of face components, calculate the face area, and estimate the rotary angle of the face. A proposed method of this study can estimate an robust result under such renditions as some different levels of illumination, variable fate sizes, fate rotation angels, and background color similar to skin color of the face. The first step of the proposed method detects the estimated face area that can be calculated by both adapted skin color Information of the band-wide HSV color coordinate converted from RGB coordinate, and skin color Information using histogram. Using the results of the former processes, we can detect a lip area within an estimated face area. After estimating a rotary angle slope of the lip area along the X axis, the method determines the face shape based on face information. After detecting eyes in face area by matching a partial template which is made with both eyes, we can estimate Y axis rotary angle by calculating the eye´s locations in three dimensional space in the reference of the face area. As a result of the experiment on various face images, the effectuality of proposed algorithm was verified.

  • Members of the genus Asarum of Korea were reviewed taxonomically, and classified into seven species. Among them, four species - A. koreanum, A. maculatum, A. patens and A. versicolor - were recorded as Korean endemics. The most valuable taxonomic characters in identifying the Asarum taxa were shape, size and color of the calyx tube and lobe. In addition, the presence of white spots on the adaxial surface, size and color of leaf, presence of trichome, shape and size of the stylar protuberance and thickness of the calyx lobe were also important characters. Keys to the species including descriptions and figures of floral structures of each taxon were provided here for the accurate identification of each species.
