  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate impact of sexual knowledge and sexual self-efficacy on sexual autonomy in middle school students in a rural area. Methods: With a cross-sectional descriptive design, 236 second-grade students were recruited from 4 middle schools using convenience sampling. The instrument was a self-administered questionnaire on sexual knowledge, sexual self-efficacy, and sexual autonomy. Data were analyzed using 2-sample t-test, one-way ANOVA, Scheffe, Pearson correlation coefficient, and stepwise regression. Results: Results showed significant positive correlations among sexual knowledge, sexual self-efficacy, and sexual autonomy. Sexual self-efficacy and sexual knowledge explained 37% of the variance in sexual autonomy. Conclusion: Findings of this study suggest that it is relevant to address sexual self-efficacy as well as sexual knowledge in order to increase sexual autonomy in middle school students. Further studies are warranted to investigate these variables with a larger sample and for development and validation of interventions to enhance sexual self-efficacy and sexual autonomy in middle school students.

The weight of the university teaching area's courtyard space evaluation index was obtained by Analytical Hierarchy Process. The results indicated that nearly 60% college students select to study and to rest alone as the main activity type, 80% students' utilization frequency is at least two times or more a week. In addition, the relative weight of plant landscape is the highest in the 2nd class indexes of space garden landscape, and its value is 0.113; the relative weight of cleanliness is the highest in the 3rd class indexes of space environment quality, and its value is 0.143. Therefore, it should be attached much importance to constructing the environment and landscape for studying and relaxing, and the factors of cleanliness and plant landscape etc in the further design of courtyard space are taken into full consideration.

  • The objective of this study was to examine alcohol consumption rates and the perception of drinking cultures among college students in the Wonju area. An examination of factors such as frequency of drinking, average quantity consumed, and frequency of heavy drinking suggested that the drinking rates were relatively high. Over 70% of subjects drank at least once a week, 66.2% typically drank more than 5 servings at a time, and 19.2% of males and 13.0% of females were heavy drinkers. It was revealed from an AUDIT (Alcohol Use Disorder Identification Test) assessment that 71.3% of the subjects tested had various levels of alcohol-related problems. These problems were more severe in subjects that were male, selfboarding, or overweight. Alcohol related knowledge was not high because the subjects didn't know or incorrectly recognized some contents such as blood alcohol concentration, the energy content of alcohol, and the empty caloric characteristics of alcohol. Generally male, self-boarding, and overweight persons were not critical of the undesirable characteristics associated with drinking culture. Two opinions that were generally considered to be permissible were: 'Men should be able to drink' and 'Drinking is essential for a smooth human relationship'.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare stress levels of elementary students according to three regional levels: a large city, a medium-sized city, and a rural area. Methods: This was a descriptive comparative survey using a convenience sample of 1,161 5th-and 6th-grade students. The stress level was measured by a stress scale that consisted of 65 items regarding personal characteristics, family, school, and peer factors. The data were analyzed by ${\chi}^2-test$, t-test, ANOVA and multiple regression using the SPSS 10.0 statistical program. Results: Overall, the mean stress scores reported by the participants were near the middle of a 5-point scale and the level of family-related stress was highest, followed by peer, school, and individual-related stress. Sixth-graders and female students showed higher stress levels than 5th-graders and male students, respectively. The participants reporting unsatisfaction with their lives and those living in large cities tended to have significantly higher stress levels. Conclusion: Grade, gender, life satisfaction, and regional levels were all significant factors associated with high stress levels among elementary students. Development of stress management programs for this specific population, especially targeting students who are female and living in large cities, is needed.

  • The egg Positive rate of Enterobius vernicularis was investigated among students of a primary school and a kindergarten located in the rural area of Tangjin-gun, Chungchongnam-do in December, 1998. Of the 189 examinees, 28 (14.8%) were found to be infected with E. vermicularis by the adhesive cellotape anal swab method . The infection rates ranged from 4.2% to 26.1% among school children, and the highest rate was observed in children attending kindergarten. Three months after treatment with albendazole, four (14.3%) out of 28 infected children still remained infected with E. vermicularis. Through this survey, we were able to determine that E. vemicularis infection is still prevalent among children in rural areas of Korea.

Data collection was conducted at various places in the WonJu area using survey questionnaire. The results were as follows : 1. The factors influencing breast feeding were educational status and the presence of a job. 6. The husband's attitude to breast feeding was very positive 82.3% and the subjects were supported by their mothers and husbands. But the major information sources about breast feeding were the mass media 30.4% and relatives 22.0%. 7. The breast feeding mother reported experiencing positive and satisfactory feelings, but the milk feeding mother reported experiencing negative and guilt feelings. Also the breast feeding mothers perceived their children as very healthy with a stable emotional status. The results showed the breast feeding ratio in WonJu to be very low and problematic and the subject mothers strongly need information about breast feeding and support while breast feeding. Therefore it is recommended that an education program for community women and other people, like husbands, and grandmothers, be developed along with an education program for university students and other young people to provide them with preparatory information as they begin to think about marriage and families.

  • This thesis investigates 220 female students ranging from 19 to 26 years old attending universities in the Wonju area to determine the correlations between mental health and the density of serum iron . According to their serum iron levels, they were divided into three groups and analyzed with the GARS Scale Assessment and the THI Test Assessment. The results are as follows;1. On the comprehensive GARS Scale tests, for all groups, task, occupation and levels of university-related frustration(1) marked the highest scores.2. On the comparative assessment of each group's GARS Scale scores, Group A showed higher stress perception in terms of personal relationship(2,3) than any orther groups. 3. On the comprehensive THI test scores coverring all groups, Multiple subjective symptoms(I) marked the highest scores. 4. On the comparative assessment of each group's THI test scores, Group A showed higher Multiple subjective symptoms(I) and Irregularities of life(G) than any orther groups.5. Comparing and analyzing the GARS Scale Assessment and the THI Test, we found that Group A showed high stress perception, which may cause psychosomatic diseases such as 'yu zheng(鬱證;melancholia). With those results, we can see that the contant of serum iron is correlated to stress perception and the condition of mental health. In the future studies using the GARS Scale and the THI Test, it will be necessary to examine more subject groups in terms of multi-aspects and to investigate the standard group in more detail.
