Information Worlds and Interpretive Practices: Toward an Integration of Domains

  • This article proposes an interwoven three-part framework for conceptualizing and analyzing the role of information in human activities, melding the cognitive and affective domain of the individual, the collective domain of the social, and the domain of signification and communication practices, focusing on the ways in which individual characteristics, social context and interaction, and signification and representation work together to form information behavior. The article presents an overview of each of these three domains and discusses the ways in which they are intertwined. It argues that considering the three domains in relation to each other offers a holistic framework within which to consider the ways in which information - needs, behavior, creation, and use - depends simultaneously on all three. It concludes by offering a brief discussion of the implications of the framework for information services, including (but not limited to) libraries.

Cooperative Behavior of Distributed Autonomous Robotic Systems Based on Schema Co-Evolutionary Algorithm

  • In distributed autonomous robotic systems (DARS), each robot must behave by itself according to its states ad environments, and if necessary, must cooperate with other robots in order to carry out their given tasks. Its most significant merit is that they determine their behavior independently, and cooperate with other robots in order to perform the given tasks. Especially, in DARS, it is essential for each robot to have evolution ability in order to increase the performance of system. In this paper, a schema co-evolutionary algorithm is proposed for the evolution of collective autonomous mobile robots. Each robot exchanges the information, chromosome used in this algorithm, through communication with other robots. Each robot diffuses its chromosome to two or more robots, receives other robot's chromosome and creates new species. Therefore if one robot receives another robot's chromosome, the robot creates new chromosome. We verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm by applying it to cooperative search problem.

  • The increased investment in technological innovations makes the investigation of factors affecting technology adoption more interesting. Several perspectives have been proposed to explain the determinants of information technology adoption. While the traditional innovation diffusion research streams try to explain and predict adoption behavior with the adopter's perceptions about the characteristics of the innovation itself, critical mass theorists argue that adoption behavior as a collective action is based on what their business partners are doing and whether there exists enough critical mass to justify the investment. Drawing on theses two perspectives, this study investigates the decision criteria in the adoption of information technology as innovation and factors affecting the decision criteria. The survey results reveal that the adoption behavior is affected both by innovation characteristics and by critical mass's activity. Correlation analysis, t-test, and stepwise regression models also show that as the environmental uncertainty is getting higher, adoption decision is affected more by what others are doing, and that highly competitive organizations seem to play the role of critical mass.

  • We may gaze at some peculiar scenes of flocking of birds and fishes. This paper demonstrates that multiple agent mobile robots show complex behaviors from efficient and strategic rules. The simulated flock are realized by a distributed behavioral model and each mobile robot decides its own motion as an individual which moves constantly by sensing the dynamic environment.

Dynamics of Interdiffusion at Interface between Partially Miscible Polymers

  • We have studied the behavior of interdiffusion between partially miscible polymer pair from a theoretical viewpoint by applying the reptation model for collective interdiffusion and spinodal decomposition in polymer mixtures with different molecular weights. We find that our predictions agree well with the experiments of Klein and co-workers, where the exponent α of the initial increase of interfacial width with time in $t^{\alpha}$ is significantly lower than 0.5 for free diffusion.

  • By optimizing the radiation protection the collective dose and individual dose could be reduced during YGN #4 $5^{th}$ outage in 2001. The collective doses for the two high radiation jobs decreased to 85% and 65% of expected doses. The proportion of workers with low dose (below 1mSv) exposure increased 4% while the proportion of workers with over 3mSv and 5mSv exposure are decreased to 2%, 1% respectively. But none is exposed over 8mSv for the annual dose. To aid decision of utilizing the robot, cost- benefit analysis was performed and reasonable point was proposed to use the robot. For the first time job, repeated ALARA meeting and mock up training were implemented to set up working procedure by identifying the trouble. To easily set up standard procedure, mockup process was videotaped and reviewed during ALARA meeting. Monitoring is a good approach to chase radiological working condition such as working time, dose rate. behavior of workers, especially for high radiation work. Those data were estimated and adjusted from the stage of work planning to mock up. At the stage of actual work the monitoring data were compared to the estimation and recorded to database. This database will not only be used as a powerful tool for dose optimization at the following outage but also as a guideline to dose constraint set up for optimization for each specific situation.

  • 인간 삶은 '서사'로 재현되기도 하고, 삶의 과정에서 인간 스스로 '서사'를 만들기도 한다. 따라서 '서사'는 삶과 시간을 이해하는 중요한 수단이다. 과거, 현재, 미래는 단절된 시간들이 아니다. 과거는 미래에 개방되어 있고, 미래는 과거의 의미를 규정하며, 과거는 현재의 삶의 지평으로 환원된다. '서사'는 이러한 열린 시간성을 전제로 형성된다. 기록은 그 자체로서 하나의 '서사'이며, 이 '서사'에 의해 과거의 시간이 재현된다. 또한 기록을 읽어내는 행위에 의해 기록의 '서사'가 아닌 새로운 '서사'가 만들어지기도 한다. 실재와 기록된 '서사'는 순환적이고 변증법적인 구조로 서로를 보완한다. 이글은 실재와 기록, 그리고 기억이 맺는 관계에 대해 현상학적 방법을 동원해 탐구한다. 탐구 도구로 폴 리쾨르의 해석학을 채택하여, 기록이 어떻게 실재와 관계 지워지고 해석되는지, 그리고 아카이브 정의에 복무하는 기억이 어떤 방식으로 형성되어야 하는지에 대해 살펴본다.

  • Purpose: The study is aimed to understand the influence of the authentic leadership in the military organization on the collective and personal level of effectiveness and to examine the impact of authentic leadership on job satisfaction and the organizational citizenship behavior in the military. Methods: The empirical test are based on an effective survey with 337 respondents who are military officers in order to verify the hypothesis of the research. Results: The results of this study found that the authentic leadership has partial positive impact on the job satisfaction. The job satisfaction has positive impact on organizational citizenship behavior. Conclusion: According to the results of this study, leaders must be educated through personal education in order to express themselves honestly. Education should be carried out so that they ca develop qualities that can truly reward mental rewards for good work and praise. The self-examination should be done with the self-examination.

The Effect of the Products' Review on Consumers' Response

  • Purpose - The purpose of this research is to discover whether the presence of the product average rating introduces biases or change the way people perceive information. We posit that review's overall rating has a predisposition effect on consumers' perception towards detailed review information. Research design, data, and methodology - To test these hypotheses, we conducted an empirical study on a real-world setting of online shopping platform. We choose the Amazon website to test our results. The data we use were collected by the Stanford Network Analysis Project1 (McAuley et al., 2013). Results - With a dataset containing reviews of seven product categories from amazon.com., our findings could possess more generalizability as they are produced on the typical and influential online market. Second, as our research provides alternative views of consumers' shopping behavior, it is better to test our hypotheses by data from the same source. Conclusions - Our study reveals the impact of the collective rating presence on consumers' diagnosticity perception and sheds light upon some of the conflictive results in prior studies. Our research generates implications to both theories and business practices, and suggests future directions for the research question.

현대 패션 밈(meme)에 관한 사례연구 (A case study on the contemporary fashion meme)

  • This study defines the concept of the fashion meme, which has recently emerged as a fashion trend, influential fashion keyword. After analyzing the concepts and characteristics of traditional memes from prior studies, examples of fashion memes were collected from online community and social network services, while a literature study and case study analysis were conducted in parallel drawing on related articles and journals. Modern fashion memes refer to fashion-related symbols and fashion images that are spread online by word-of-mouth, together with fashion styles and items that spread as a result of being worn. Fashion memes in cyberspace are mainly spread through social network or message services, and sometimes combine text, images, videos, hashtags, and emoticons. Fashion memes are a type of collective action of the people in response to social problems in the world, and often involve humorous antics, satire, shock, and eccentricity. Shared fashion memes reflect the expression of personality expression and fun, and at the same time are used as an expression of designer and brand creativity and are integral to marketing. Fashion memes are classified into four types, based on two central axes as follows: non-commercial/commercial and anti-fashion/fashion-friendly. Unlike traditional memes, Internet-based fashion memes emphasize elements of transformation through creativity as well as imitation, which has become a persisting contemporary trend beyond temporary phenomena.
