CFD Simulation of Air-particle Flow for Predicting the Collection Efficiency of a Cyclone Separator in Mud Handling System (Mud handling system 내 cyclone separator의 집진효율 추정을 위한 공기-분체의 CFD 시뮬레이션)

  • Drilling mud was used once in the step of separating the gas and powder they were transported to a surge tank. At that time, the fine powder, such as dust that is not separated from the gas, is included in the gas that was separated from the mud. The fine particles of the powder are collected to increase the density of the powder and prevent air pollution. To remove particles from air or another gas, a cyclone-type separator generally can be used with the principles of vortex separation without using a filter system. In this study, we conducted numerical simulations of air-particle flow consisting of two components in a cyclone separator in a mud handling system to investigate the characteristics of turbulent vortical flow and to evaluate the collection efficiency using the commercial software, STAR-CCM+. First, the single-phase air flow was simulated and validated through the comparison with experiments (Boysan et al., 1983) and other CFD simulation results (Slack et al., 2000). Then, based on one-way coupling simulation for air and powder particles, the multi-phase flow was simulated, and the collection efficiency for various sizes of particles was compared with the experimental and theoretical results.

Current Collection of Catenary System with Time-Varying Stiffness (시변강성 가선계의 집전성능)

  • The design of current collection system of high speed train requires the fundamental understandings for the dynamic characteristics of catenary system and pantograph. The stiffness of catenary system of high speed train has the varying characteristics for the change of contact point with pantograph, since the supporting pole and hanger make the different boundary conditions for the up-down stiffness of a trolley wire. The variation of stiffness results in Mathiue equation, which characterizes the stability of the system. However, the two-term variation of the stiffness due to span length and hanger distance cannot be solved analytically. In this paper, the stiffness variations are calculated and the physical reasoning of linear model and one term Mathieu equation are reviewed. And the numerical analysis for the two-term variation of the stiffness is done for the several design parameters of pantograph.

Development of Quantitative Real-Time PCR Primers for Detection of Streptococcus sobrinus

  • The purpose of this study was to develop Streptococcus sobrinus-specific qPCR primers based on the nucleotide sequence of the RNA polymerase ${\beta}-subunit$ gene (rpoB). The specificity of the primers was determined by conventional polymerase chain reaction (PCR) with 12 strains of S. sobrinus and 50 strains (50 species) of non-S. sobrinus bacteria. The sensitivity of the primers was determined by quantitative real-time PCR (qPCR) with serial dilutions of the purified genomic DNAs (40 ng to 4 fg) of S. sobrinus ATCC $33478^T$. The specificity data showed that the S. sobrinus-specific qPCR primers (RTSsob-F4/RTSsob-R4) detected only the genomic DNAs of S. sobrinus strains with a detection limit of up to 4 fg of S. sobrinus genomic DNA. Our results suggest that the RTSsob-F4/RTSsob-R4 primers are useful in detecting S. sobrinus with high sensitivity and specificity for epidemiological studies of dental caries..

Peptoniphilus mikwangii-specific quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction primers

  • The purpose of this study was to develop Peptoniphilus mikwangii-specific quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) primers based on the 16S ribosomal RNA (16S rDNA) gene. The specificity of the primers was determined by conventional PCR using 29 strains of 27 oral bacterial species including P. mikwangii. The sensitivity of the primers was determined by qPCR using the purified genomic DNA of P. mikwangii KCOM $1628^T$ (40 ng to 4 fg). The data showed that the qPCR primers (RTB134-F4/RTB134-R4) could detect P. mikwangii strains exclusively and as little as 40 fg of the genomic DNA of P. mikwangii KCOM $1628^T$. These results suggest that the developed qPCR primer pair can be useful for detecting P. mikwangii in epidemiological studies of oral bacterial infectious diseases.

  • Electric power collection is one of the most important factors for the high-speed trains' operation. For the stable current collection, the contact wire of a catenary and the panhead of a pantograph should maintain a constant contact each other. In this paper, the catenary was modeled as a spring with time-varying stiffness from the point of a pantograph moving along the catenary, and the pantograph was modeled as a 3-D.O.F. mass-spring-damper system. Using the adaptive control method, the desired control performance could be obtained with the modeling errors and the time varying parameters.   • A considerable number of construction disasters occur on pathways. Safety management is usually performed on construction sites to prevent accidents in activity areas. This means that the safety management level of hazards on pathways is relatively minimized. Many researchers have noted that hazard identification is fundamental to safety management. Thus, algorithms for helping safety managers to identify hazardous areas are developed using automated data collection technology. These algorithms primarily search for potential hazardous areas by comparing workers' location logs based on a real-time location system and optimal routes based on BIM. Potential hazardous areas are filtered by identified hazardous areas and activity areas. After that, safety managers are provided with information about potential hazardous areas and can establish proper safety countermeasures. This can help to improve safety on construction sites.

Complexity Control Method of Chaos Dynamics in Recurrent Neural Networks

  • This paper demonstrates that the largest Lyapunov exponent $\lambda$ of recurrent neural networks can be controlled by a gradient method. The method minimizes a square error $e_{\lambda}=(\lambda-\lambda^{obj})^2$ where $\lambda^{obj}$ is desired exponent. The $\lambda$ can be given as a function of the network parameters P such as connection weights and thresholds of neurons' activation. Then changes of parameters to minimize the error are given by calculating their gradients $\partial\lambda/\partialP$. In a previous paper, we derived a control method of $\lambda$via a direct calculation of $\partial\lambda/\partialP$ with a gradient collection through time. This method however is computationally expensive for large-scale recurrent networks and the control is unstable for recurrent networks with chaotic dynamics. Our new method proposed in this paper is based on a stochastic relation between the complexity $\lambda$ and parameters P of the networks configuration under a restriction. Then the new method allows us to approximate the gradient collection in a fashion without time evolution. This approximation requires only $O(N^2)$ run time while our previous method needs $O(N^{5}T)$ run time for networks with N neurons and T evolution. Simulation results show that the new method can realize a "stable" control for larege-scale networks with chaotic dynamics.

Risk-Incorporated Trajectory Prediction to Prevent Contact Collisions on Construction Sites

  • Many construction projects involve a plethora of safety-related problems that can cause loss of productivity, diminished revenue, time overruns, and legal challenges. Incorporating data collection and analytics methods can help overcome the root causes of many such problems. However, in a dynamic construction workplace collecting data from a large number of resources is not a trivial task and can be costly, while many contractors lack the motivation to incorporate technology in their activities. In this research, an Android-based mobile application, Preemptive Construction Site Safety (PCS2) is developed and tested for real-time location tracking, trajectory prediction, and prevention of potential collisions between workers and site hazards. PCS2 uses ubiquitous mobile technology (smartphones) for positional data collection, and a robust trajectory prediction technique that couples hidden Markov model (HMM) with risk-taking behavior modeling. The effectiveness of PCS2 is evaluated in field experiments where impending collisions are predicted and safety alerts are generated with enough lead time for the user. With further improvement in interface design and underlying mathematical models, PCS2 will have practical benefits in large scale multi-agent construction worksites by significantly reducing the likelihood of proximity-related accidents between workers and equipment.

  • Recently, I presented Gagok(歌曲) Collection Yeong-eon永言 to learned circles. Yeong-eon is very similar to Yukdang-version六堂本 CheongGuYeongeon靑丘永言. Compared with Cheong- Yuk, it is the same age or little bit early time of Cheong-Yuk in culture Icon. This paper paid attention to the considerable difference between Yeong-eon and Cheong-Yuk in the way of the distribution of Yisakdaeyap二數大 葉's Woo mode羽調 and Ke-myeon mode界面調. There was the way of gathering ‘real name’+‘namelessness’ in Yisakdaeyap, which is the feature of the 18th century Gagok Collection. I found this way just put on the 19th century Gagok Collection way which is the distribution of Yisakdaeyap's 'Woo mode and Ke-myeon mode' in CheongYuk. Then I proved in this paper that the way of gathering Yisakdaeyap in Cheong Yuk didn't correspond to an actual singing in the early 19th century when 'Woo mode and Ke-myeon mode' was fixed. In case of Yeong-eon, however, it was not written any writers' names at all, when it was researched retroactively, I knew it was distributed evenly both the works of 'real name' and 'namelessness' in Yisakdaeyaps 'Woo mode and Ke-myeon mode'. Consequently, I found Yeong-eon is the good Gagok Collection for an actual singing at that time. In addition, there was discord in the mode or key distribution among many Gagok Collections. I found this issue of the application had kept on make Gagok Collections edit during 2 centuries. Because the actual Gagok enjoyment in the specific time is connected the way of the mode application directly.

  • This paper introduces a manufacturing facility visualization system for the monitoring of smart factories. With the development of technology and the emergence of such terms as the Fourth Industrial Revolution and Industry 4.0, technologies for smart factories are becoming more important. A Manufacturing Execution System that can improve productivity and help decision making by monitoring production plants in real-time is one of the key technologies for smart factories. The application of digital twin technology for more accurate monitoring technology is also an important issue. However, digital twin implementations require an integrated infrastructure that can integrate facility data from multiple manufacturers. Therefore, this paper designs and develops a visualization program that can verify real-time information of facilities using data collection system based on international standard protocol for heterogeneous collection and monitoring of facility data. This allows a factory to consolidate equipment data from multiple manufacturers and to view them in real-time.
