  • Purpose: We investigated the effect of far-infrared radiating products on cold hypersensitivity of lower limbs using CST. Methods: 7 patients with cold hypersensitivity of lower limbs were investigated in this study. Exclusive criteria was skin diseases, spinal nervous disease and external wounds. They were asked to answer the VAS of cold hypersensitivity at baseline and after 3 weeks. We measured temperature of lower limbs with Spectrum 9000 MB (Dorex Inc, USA). We performed cold stress test (CST) by 3 thermographic observation using DITI : 1st was taken after 15 minutes resting at $25^{\circ}C$, the 2nd was immediately taken after 1 minute soak in $20^{\circ}C$ water, the 3rd was taken at 15 minutes after soak. We performed 3 times of CST : 1st CST was perfomed at baseline, 2nd CST was perfomred after 1 week and just observation, 3rd CST was performed after 1 week using far-infrared radiating products (lasner, UMT, Korea). Results: After using products, temperature of foot incresed more than thigh area, but there was no significance. There was no statistical difference of VAS, change of temperature and CST between before and after using far-infrared radiating products. Conclusion: There was no statistical effect of far-infrared radiating products on change of temperature of lower limbs.

  • To make a objective diagnosis of the syndrome of cold-limbs, We investigated the 20 patients with cold limbs and GI trouble and 20 normal people as a control group. And we compared the thermal difference between Chon-jung(CV17) and Chung-wan(CV12 中脘), Chon-jung(CV17) and Ki-hae(氣海 CV6) and we compared the thermal differences of No-gung(PE8 勞宮) and Yong-chon(湧泉 KI1), too. The results were as follows. 1. All 20 patients had GI trouble and cold limbs. They had the symptom-Indigestion(16 cases-80%) with heart burn, tympanites, abdominal distention, hiccup, belching. Beside that symptom they also had constipation(6 cases-30%), diarrhea(3 cases-15%), headache & dizziness(6 cases-30%). And some had the menstrual syndrome, chronic fatigue, palpitation, insomnia, edema, arthralgia. 2. The thermal difference of the palms between the patients group and the control group were $25.70^{\circ}C,\;25.82^{\circ}C$, but they were not significant. 3. The thermal difference of the soles between the patients group and the control group were $23.58^{\circ}C,\;24.42^{\circ}C$ and the significancy was P=0.020 so it was significant(P<0.05). 4. The thermal difference of the palms and Chon-jung(CV17) between the patients group and the control group were $1.08^{\circ}C,\;0.76^{\circ}C$, but they were not significant. 5. The thermal difference of the sales and Chon-jung(CV17) between the patients group and the control group were $3.01^{\circ}C,\;1.90^{\circ}C$ and the significancy was P=0.003 so it was significant(P<0.05). 6. The thermal difference of Chon-jung(CV17) and Chung-wan(CV12 中脘) between the patients group and the control group was $0.30^{\circ}C,\;0.62^{\circ}C$ and the significancy was P=0.793 so it was significant(P<0.05). 7. The thermal difference of Chon-jung(CV17) and Ki-hae(CV6 氣海) between the patients group and the control group was $0.53^{\circ}C,\;0.68^{\circ}C$, but they were not significant. From the above, I could find the significance of D.I.T.I to diagnose the cold-feet not the cold-hands and the thermal difference between the trunk and limbs was more significant on cold-feet than on cold-hand, either.

  • This experiment was conducted to determine and compare some characteristics of the meat and carcass of rabbits aged 11 weeks according to sex. In the experiment thirty male and thirty female New Zealand White rabbits were slaughtered. The weights and percentages of cold carcasses, skin with head and limbs, liver, kidney, heart, lung, fore legs, hind legs, breast and ribs, loin and abdominal wall were recorded. The values for carcass length, lumbar circumference, pH in the muscles of Biceps femoris and Longissimus dorsi, meat to bone ratio and cooking loss were also determined. The mean values for cold carcass weight and cold dressing percentage were 832 g and 48.77% in male and 849 g and 48.69% in female, respectively. In this study no significant differences were shown between male and female rabbits in the characteristics of carcass and meat except the value of pH of Longissimus dorsi muscle which was markedly higher in males than that in females meat. Slaughter weight was positively correlated with the weights of carcass, skin with head and limbs, lung, liver, kidney, heart and weights of joints (p<0.01) and dressing percentage (p<0.05).

  • Cold hypersensitivity is the condition with unusual cold sensitivity at temperature when others don't feel so. It is not disease in itself, but is known as having relationship with infertility, dysmenorrhea, anemia and endocrine disorder. The symptoms of cold hypersensitivity appear on limbs and abdomen especially, and may affect bowel movement such as constipation or diarrhea. We made a research of 86 healthy young girls who took medical examination and examined subjective bowel habit. The patients were divided into three group by defecation type, constipation(42), diarrhea(14) and normal group(30). Temperature differences$({\Delta}Ts)$ measured by DITI on upper and lower abdomen of each group had not statistically significance. Otherwise ${\Delta}Ts$ between upper arm and palm and between upper leg and foot were statistically signigicant. The severity of cold hypersensitivity on hands was in order constipation, normal and diarrhea group, and same as feet. The diarrhea patients had more severe cold hypersensitivity as compared with constipation patients. Correlation between ${\Delta}Ts$ on abdomen and hands or feet didn't exist. ${\Delta}Ts$ on hands and feet, however, had positive relationship. This research showed cold hypersensitivity could be related with diarrhea.

  • Objectives: We performed this study to check the effect of Cold-Heat attribute analyzed quantitatively by questionnaire on halitosis patient. Methods: We made a questionnaire composed of 15 items(6 categories) about the contents of Cold-Heat and asked 105 subjects to answer in the form Likert-like seven-points score. And then, we extracted Cold-Heat attribute from 15 items, 6 categories, 6 weighted categories, heat score and cold score. On the other hand we measured the halimeter measurements. VAS, winkle tongue coating index. Afterward, the data were analyzed by statistical methods. Results:1) In the 15 items, question number 6, 7, 8 is negative correlated with halimeter measurements. Question number10 is positive correlated with halimeter measurements. And question number 11, 12, 14 is positive correlated with VAS. 2) In the 6 categories, constipation is negative correlated with halimeter measurements. Chill is positive correlated with VAS. And Cold-limbs is positive correlated with halimeter measurements. 3) In the 6 weighted score categories, constipation is negative correlated with halimeter measurements. Chill is positive correlated with VAS. And Cold-limbs is positive correlated with halimeter measurements. Conclusions: Further clinical research is necessary in the development of the questionnaire's items. And to get the better of this study, we should research more analytic method made casual relationship clear between Cold-Heat attributes and the index of halitosis.

  • Cold hypersensitivity is excessive sensitivity of each body part, particularly limbs and low backs, but sometimes it affects upper abdomen region in G-I trouble patients. We conducted this research on 69 patients who came and took the both exam of gastroscopy and D.I.T.I. in Kangnam korean hospital Kyung Hee university. So, we researched the significance of temperature deviations on upper abdomen which was studied separately by gastritis group, digestive function group and H. pylori group. The result was : 1. The temperature deviation of Zhongwan(Ren12)-Danzhong(Ren17) of gastritis group was significant, it means that patients with severe gastritis have more significant cold hypersensitivity in upper abdomen than the patients who has not gastritis(p<0.005). 2. The temperature deviation of Zhongwan(Ren12)-Danzhong(Ren17) of indigestive patients in digestive function group was significant(p<0.05) 3. The temperature deviation of Zhongwan(Ren12)-Danzhong(Ren17) of H.pylori positive patients in H.pylori group was not significant. 4. The clinical relationship or tendency was not found both between H.pylori group and gastritis group and between H.pylori group and digestive function group.

  • This clinical study is designed to find the characteristics of heat and cold according to Sasang Constitutions by using a statistical analysis. The study was conducted based on the questionnaire sheets and medical history (clinical data) of 1080 people registered at Sasang Constitution Information Bank (SCIB). The total number of people registered at SCIB was 1083; however, 3 Taeyangin's data were excluded in this study. The statistical analyses results on these data were: Most Taeumins have warm limbs, while Soeumins have cold ones. Taeumin, and Soyangin do not like hot weather, while Soyumin doesn't like coldness. As soeumins' body temperature is relatively lower than that of other constitutions, they tend to sleep tightly under blankets or comforters. Taeumin tend to drink more water because they sweat a lot; while Soeumin drink smaller amount of water because they sweat less. Both Taeumin, and Soyangin like cold food, but Soeumin liked hot food. Soeumin showed strong tendency for hot and cold food, while other constitutions displayed less inclination toward the certain temperature of food. Soeumin certainly had the remarkable response toward changes in heat and cold than other constitutions. The differences written above were proved to be meaningful enough by Chi-square test.
