A Study on the Tapered Balun for the UWB UHF Coupler

  • The UWB UHF coupler for GIS PD detection requires a balun (balance to unbalance transformer) to show its inherent UWB characteristics. In order to reduce the size of the balun and to make it practical in the conventional GIS, a novel tapered coaxial balun with a dielectric was proposed for the UWB UHF coupler. The performance of the proposed balun was verified through a series of simulations, measurements and experiments. As a result, both the conventional balun and the proposed balun, which has a length equal to one third of that of the conventional balun, demonstrated good S11 characteristics, whereas the efficiency of the proposed balun increased as much as about 30% in comparison to the conventional one.

Fault Location of Underground Cables Using Travelling Wave (반사파를 이용한 지중케이블의 고장점 탐지연구)

  • In this paper, we made an experiment on fault location of underground cables with travelling wave. The 5C2V coaxial cables of 100, 200m length, connected with discharge gap, are used for simplifying model cable lines of power cable. And 100KHz -2MHz CT and HV probe are installed at one side of the ends. We made travelling pulse in discharge gab and then pulse travelled along the cable to the both ends. Therefore, it is detected in CT and HV probe. Measuring the time difference of the pulse start and arrival, we were able to obtain the distance of pulse travelling. Consequently, our experimental results show the possibility to detect fault location of underground cables with travelling wave.

  • 1998년 시작된 초고속 인터넷 서비스는 약 4년 만에 세계 1위의 보급률을 보이고 있을 정도로 우리 나라의 정보통신 인프라는 급속도로 성장하여 왔다. 최근 유무선 통합 및 통신과 방송이 융합되는 광대역 통합망(BcN) 환경에서 초고속 인터넷 서비스와 디지털방송 서비스를 제공하기 위한 초고속 인프라의 가입자망 형태는 동선 기반의 ADSL(Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line)/VDSL(Very high-data rate Digital Subscriber Line) 및 광/동축 혼합망인 HFC, 광섬유 기반의 FTTH(Fiber To The Home) 등이 있다. 그 중에서 HFC는 그 동안 주로 케이블 TV 프로그램의 전송망으로 활용되어 오다가 최근 통신. 방송 융합 환경에서 초고속 인터넷 가입자망으로 부각되고 있다. 본 고에서는 HFC 망의 특성과 HFC 망의 핵심장비인 CMTS와 케이블모뎀의 시장 현황 및 전망에 대해서 알아보고, 광대역 통합망의 가입자망으로서의 HFC의 역할에 대해 논의하고자 한다.

  • This paper presents a high-performance dual-circularly polarized feed employing a dielectric-filled circular waveguide. Novel features are incorporated in the proposed feed, such as a dielectric rod radiator for high gain and good impedance matching; dual quarter-wave chokes for low axial ratio over wide angles and for low back radiation; an integrated septum polarizer; and two end-launch-type coaxial-to-waveguide transitions. The proposed feed shows excellent performance at 5.0 GHz to 5.2 GHz.

  • Hot-firing tests were performed on a sub-scale gas generator for development of a 75 ton-class liquid rocket engine. This paper deals with the analysis results of low-frequency combustion instability that encountered during combustion tests of the gas generator.

  • Recently, LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) is the display product widely used on various fields of industry. This is generally composed of many parts. Among many parts, polarizer film control the intensity of the transmitted light according to the degree of rotation of the polarizer axis. Therefore, this film must be free from defects. But it contains many defects such as the defects caused by dust or different thing, adhesive badness, scratch. Presently, the inspection of these defects is depending on the sight of operator. In this paper, we propose the vision system composed of telecentric lens and optical mirror. This system use the coaxial illumination and the light is specularly reflected on the optical mirror. And we develop the image processing algorithm using the threshold and morphological technique.

  • At present, communication network for subway is making use of the train radio system for main network and normally established a base station every three subway station. It is talk over the telephone between a locomotive and the traffic control for careful train service. Besides, mobile telephone equipment is using for service improve and convenience to passengers such as 011, 016, 017, 019 and what not. However, the train radio system has been occurring a various problems when a state of emergency because it is able to compose only one communication route each base station zone. We could have improving like this problems through induce the TRS(Trunked Radio System), though because have been able to compose multilateral communication route in case of linking with LCX(Leaked Coaxial) cable which is established. Therefore, we could be able to a fitting meet the emergency as train firing etc.. and efficient use of limited frequency resources.

  • In this paper, the hybrid illumination system for effectively detecting surface defects in steel plate with lowcontrast, non-uniformity and featureless is designed based on illuminance uniformity. First of all, characteristics of steel plate defects were considered and typical inspection illumination system is implemented. Optimum illumination parameters for uniformly illuminating an inspection area in the typical illumination system are selected based on the illuminance uniformity and illuminance distribution measurement. The illuminance uniformity and illuminance distribution are measured using an illuminometer based on the arduino. Through illuminance distribution analysis of the typical illumination, an hybrid illumination is designed by fusing bi-directional illumination and coaxial illumination. The hybrid illumination showed higher uniformity ratio and illuminance distribution than the typical illuminations. The hybrid illumination system showed the ability to uniformly illuminate the entire inspection region of steel plate surface.

  • In this study, we proposed a specification which is able to estimate tile uncertainty more easily and quickly and also able to maintain a confidence level when measuring tile magnitude and phase of 1-port and 2-port transmission.reflection coefficient using a VNA and attached coaxial cable probes. This proposed specification is available when it needs extra special condition of uncertainty estimation and when there is no additional standard equipment like as beadless airline or mismatch standard at the measurement institute. We compared and examined this proposed uncertainty estimation method with recommended EA specification and Agilent specification. As a result, we think that this proposed specification can be used as a reference for uncertainty estimation and calculation of VNA system, that is, a reference based on the IS0/1EC 17025 requirements.

  • Transcritical$CO_2$ systems are under consideration for use as residential/mobile air conditioners. In these systems, an internal heat exchanger is usually adopted to improve both capacity and/or COP of the $CO_2$ system in lower operating pressure range of gas cooler. A program has been developed to analyse the performance of internal heat exchangers using the section-by-section method. The internal heat exchanger of coaxial configuration is first analyzed and fairly good agreements with the data are obtained, And then the internal heat exchanger of multiple circular coil configuration has been investigated. The results obtained from the parametric study provide the guidelines for the initial design and manufacturing concepts of the internal heat exchanger in transcritical $CO_2$ system. Further studies are necessary to develop the heat transfer correlations of carbon dioxide in the tubes to obtain more accurate results.
