  • In this study, we analyzed the relationship between phytoplankton community and physicochemical factors in 12 lakes located in Jeollanam-do based on the data surveyed from March to November 2014. Totally, 297 species of phytoplankton were identified including 98 Bacillariophyceae, 148 Chlorophyceae, 23 Cyanophyceae and 28 other phytoplankton taxa. The standing crops ranged from 124 to $59,148cells\;mL^{-1}$ and showed the highest in August with the increase of Cyanophycean cells. The self-organizing map (SOM) was optimized into $9{\times}6$ grid and was classified into 5 clusters based on the similarity of environmental factors and phytoplankton indices. The SOM results showed that phytoplankton communities had positive relationship with water temperature, SS, DO, BOD, TP and Chl-a, whereas low relationship with pH, TN, $NH_3-N$, $NO_3-N$, $PO_4-P$ and Conductivity. In Pearson's correlation coefficient, relationship between environmental factors and phytoplankton communities showed similar results with SOM.

  • The conventional Boolean retrieval systems based on vector spae model can provide the results of retrieval fast, they can't reflect exactly user's retrieval purpose including semantic information. Consequently, the results of retrieval process are very different from those users expected. This fact forces users to waste much time for finding expected documents among retrieved documents. In his paper, we designed a bayesian SOM(Self-Organizing feature Maps) in combination with bayesian statistical method and Kohonen network as a kind of unsupervised learning, then perform classifying documents depending on the semantic similarity to user query in real time. If it is difficult to observe statistical characteristics as there are less than 30 documents for clustering, the number of documents must be increased to at least 50. Also, to give high rank to the documents which is most similar to user query semantically among generalized classifications for generalized clusters, we find the similarity by means of Kohonen centroid of each document classification and adjust the secondary rank depending on the similarity.

  • A pulsed laser ablation deposition (PLAD) technique is an excellent method for the fabrication of amorphous carbon (a-C) films, because it can generate highly energetic carbon clusters on a substrate. This paper was focused on the understanding and analysis of the motion of C particles in laser ablation assisted by Ar plasmas. The simulation has carried out under the pressure P=50 mTorr of Ar plasmas. Two-dimensional hybrid model consisting of fluid and Monte-Carlo models was developed and three kinds of the ablated particles which are carbon atom (C), ion ($C^+$) and electron were considered in the calculation of particle method. The motions of energetic $C^+$ and C deposited upon the substrate were investigated and compared. The interactions between the ablated particles and Ar gas plasmas were discussed.

  • This paper reports the investigation of the physical and chemical characteristics of the prepared 3Pt-2MgO-$3ZrO_2$-$2CeO_2/Al_2O_3$ DOC, based on its hydrothermal aging. As a result of impregnating and reducing the $H_2PtCl_6$ $6H_2O$ precursor on a ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ basis, it was well dispersed into small particles with the range 2-3nm. This was because the $Al_2O_3$ acted as a barrier to prevent movement of the catalyst particles. For a hydrothermally aged catalyst for 9h at $700^{\circ}C$, its performance when purifying harmful gases decreased compared to a fresh catalyst, but its specific surface area was at the same level. This was because the performance of the catalyst was reduced by the sintering of the precious metal Pt, rather than by washcoat sintering and pore clogging. For an excessively hydrothermally aged catalyst for 9h at $850^{\circ}C$, Pt grew into an approximately 50nm class, formed a cluster compared to a fresh catalyst. The $CeO_2$ promoters also formed clusters among components of the same type, reducing their specific surface area to $114m^2/g$, which was 14% less than a fresh catalyst.

  • An automatic switch among ensembles of clustering algorithms is proposed as a part of the bibliographic big data retrieval system by utilizing a fuzzy inference engine as a decision support tool to select the fastest performing clustering algorithm between fuzzy C-means (FCM) clustering, Newman-Girvan clustering, and the combination of both. It aims to realize the best clustering performance with the reduction of computational complexity from O($n^3$) to O(n). The automatic switch is developed by using fuzzy logic controller written in Java and accepts 3 inputs from each clustering result, i.e., number of clusters, number of vertices, and time taken to complete the clustering process. The experimental results on PC (Intel Core i5-3210M at 2.50 GHz) demonstrates that the combination of both clustering algorithms is selected as the best performing algorithm in 20 out of 27 cases with the highest percentage of 83.99%, completed in 161 seconds. The self-adapted FCM is selected as the best performing algorithm in 4 cases and the Newman-Girvan is selected in 3 cases. The automatic switch is to be incorporated into the bibliographic big data retrieval system that focuses on visualization of fuzzy relationship using hybrid approach combining FCM and Newman-Girvan algorithm, and is planning to be released to the public through the Internet.

  • In this study, quantitative and pattern recognition analyses for the quality evaluation of Herba Epimedii using HPLC was developed. For quantitative analysis, five major bioactive constituents, hyperin, epimedin A, epimedin B, epimedin C, and icariin were determined. Analysis was carried out on Capcell pak $C_{18}$ column ($250{\time}4.6$ mm, 5 ${\mu}m$) with a mobile phase of mixture of acetonitrile and 0.1% formic acid, using UV detection at 270 nm. The linear behavior was observed over the investigated concentration range (2-50 ${\mu}g/mL;\;r_2\;>$ 0.99) for all analytes. The intraand inter-day precisions were lower than 4.3% (as a relative standard deviation, RSD) and accuracies between 95.1% and 104.4%. The HPLC analytical method for pattern recognition analysis was validated by repeated analysis of one reference sample. The RSD of intra- and inter-day variation of relative retention time (RRT) and relative peak area (RPA) of the 12 selected common peaks were below 0.8% and 4.7%, respectively. The developed methods were applied to analysis of twenty Herba Epimedii extract samples. Contents of hyperin, epimedin A, epimedin B, epimedin C, and icariin were calculated to be 0$\sim$0.79, 0.69$\sim$1.91, 0.93$\sim$9.58, 0.65$\sim$3.05, and 2.43$\sim$11.8 mg/g dried plant. Principal component analysis (PCA) showed that most samples were clustered together with the reference samples but several apart from the main cluster in the PC score plot, indicating differences in overall chemical composition between two clusters. The present study suggests that quantitative determination of marker compounds combined with pattern-recognition method can provide a comprehensive approach for the quality assessment of herbal medicines.

  • Background : IS6110 DNA fingerprint is a very useful tool for investigating the transmission of tuberculosis. The aim of this study was to identify the epidemiological situations within a given area (one province). Methods : The 681 Mycbobacterium tuberculosis isolates from patients, who were registered at health centers in Gyeonggi Province from May to December in 2004, were subjected to IS6110 DNA fingerprinting. Patients belonging to clusters were interviewed by health-workers to determine their previous contacts or household TB history. Results : The number of IS6110 copies of the 681 isolates showed diverse fingerprint patterns from 0 to 21 of which the most prevalent copy number was 10 from 120 isolates (17.6%). Thirty-three isolates (4.8%) belonged to the K strain, and 128 isolates (18.8%) belonged to the K family. There were 180 (26.4%) isolates belonged belonging to fifty clusters, of which two clusters were within household transmission. Forty-three (23.9%) out of 180 patients resided in an area under the same health center control. The rate of clusters in those aged 60-70 was higher than in any other age group ( 95% CI of RR : 1.072 ~ 1.988). Conclusion : This is the first report of an epidemiological survey based on a whole province using a DNA fingerprinting technique for M. tuberculosis. These results will be helpful in developing a program or policies to prevent the transmission of TB.

  • Subtropical insect pests expand their habitats by migration to temperate zones along with global climate change. A subtropical insect pest, Maruca vitrata, is infesting leguminous crops including azuka beans in Korea and gives significant economic damages. Its great genetic variation raised an issue of the origin of a Korean M. vitrata population. To understand the genetic character of the Korean population, its cytochrome oxidase subunit 1 (cox 1) gene was sequenced and phylogenetically analyzed with other regional populations. The world populations of M. vitrata were grouped into three clusters: Asia-African, American, and Oceanian. The Korean population was classified into Asia-African cluster. To characterize the insecticide susceptibility of the Korean population, seven different insecticides (4 neutoxic insecticides, 1 insect growth regulator, 2 biopesticides) were assessed. Young larvae of M. vitrata were relatively susceptible to all tested insecticides. However, old larvae were much less susceptible than young larvae. No test insecticides effectively (> 50%) killed the old larvae of M. vitrata within 7 days.

  • The crystal structures of $Cd_6-A$ evacuated at $2{\times}10^{-6}$ Torr and 750$^{\circ}$C (a=12.216(l) ${\AA}$), and of the product of its reaction with Rb vapor (a= 12.187(l) ${\AA}$), have been determined by single-crystal x-ray diffraction techniques in the cubic space group Pm$\bar{3}$m at 21(l)$^{\circ}$C. Their structures were refined to the final error indices, $R_1$=0.055 and $R_2$=0.067 with 191 reflections, and $R_1$=0.066 and $R_2$=0.049 with 90 reflections, respectively, for which I>3${\sigma}$(I). In dehydrated $Cd_6-A$, six $Cd^{2+}$ ions are found at two different threefold-axis sites near six-oxygen ring centers. Four $Cd^{2+}$ ions are recessed 0.50 ${\AA}$ into the sodalite cavity from the (111) plane at O(3), and the other two extend 0.28 ${\AA}$ into the large cavity from this plane. Treatment at 250 $^{\circ}$C with 0.1 Torr of Rb vapor reduces all $Cd^{2+}$ ions to give $Rb_{13.5^-}$A. Rb species are found at three crystallographic sites: three $Rb^+$ ions lie at eight-oxygen-ring centers, filling that position, and ca. 10.5 $Rb^+$ ions lie on threefold axes, 8.0 in the large cavity and 2.5 in the sodalite cavity. In this structure, ca. 1.5 Rb species more than the 12 $Rb^+$ ions needed to balance the anionic charge of zeolite framework are found, indicating that sorption of $Rb^0$ has occurred. The occupancies observed can be most simply explained by two "unit cell" compositions, $Rb_{12^-}A{\cdot}Rb$ and $Rb_{12^-}A{\cdot}2Rb$, of approximately equal population. In sodalite cavities, $Rb_{12^-}A{\cdot}Rb$ would have a $(Rb_2)^+$ cluster and $Rb_{12^-}A{\cdot}2Rb$ would have a triangular $(Rb_3)^+$ cluster. Each of the atoms of these clusters must bind further through a six-oxygen ring to a large cavity $Rb^+$ to give $(Rb_4)^{3+}$ (linear) and $(Rb_6)^{4+}$ (trigonal). Other unit-cell compositions and other cationic cluster compositions such as $(Rb_8)^{n+}$ may exist.
