The Personal Characteristics and Clothing Attitude on High School Students (남·녀 고등학생의 성격특성과 의복태도)

  • The young casual wear market has been recently increased by the great buying power of the target consumers, although they don't have their own discretionary income. The purpose of this study was to investigate clothing attitudes of the adolescent consumers of the young casual wear market according to the groups of personality types. The questions on introversion/extroversion of MBTI test were adopted to measure introversion/extroversion in personal characteristics. The questions in "The personality diagnosis of high school students" developed by Lee, Chongseung and Chung, Bummo were adopted to measure stability, dominance, sociability and autonomy. Variables of clothing attitudes were composed with attentiveness, modesty and conformity. A total 488 high school students in Seoul participated in the survey. SPSS Win 10 statistical package was used to analyze the data: frequency, t-test, ANOVA and factor analysis. After statistical analysis, the following results were found. Groups of introversion and extroversion, and groups of low, medium and high degree of stability, dominance, sociability and autonomy showed no significant difference based on sex difference and school types. Students who has a high extroversion showed a high degree of attentiveness in clothing attitudes. Students who has the lowest sociability and the lowest autonomy showed a high degree of attentiveness. Students with the lowest autonomy showed a high degree of conformity. The younger the students were, the higher their attentiveness and modesty in clothing attitudes.

Research on Middle School and High School Teachers′Awareness of Instructional Media on Clothing and Textiles Education (중.고등학교에 재직하고 있는 교사의 의생활 수업매체에 대한 의식 조사)

  • This research aims to obtain basic information on the present situation of the instructional media on clothing and textiles education, in middle and high schools. It also strives to get various information needed in order to improve educational environments and teaching methods. The targets of this survey were 225 teachers who teach home economics at middle and high schools in Taejeon, Choongchungnamdo and Junrabookdo. I made up questions their awareness about the instructional media on clothing and textiles education, the educational circumstances of their schools having to do with new media, and their real educational goal. Methods such 3s frequency, percentage, and Chi-square(${\chi}^2$)(statistical significance of differences between variables) were used to research the differences of awareness on using instructional media, according to teachers'various characters, were checked using the SPSS WIN computer program. The results of this research were as fellows; 1. They thought content on the management and the materials of clothing were the ones that need to be developed, compared to other content having to do with the curriculum on clothing and textile education. 2. The real things tuned out to be the molt useful and effective. So the most frequently used media was the Over Head Projector. Also, the teachers expressed in general that they wished to increase the use of computers in order to teach more efficiently. 3. We knew the teachers had little knowledge on the software developed for clothing and textiles education. The infrastructures for educating the using of clothing and textiles, using computers and the internet, were very poor in most schools. The new curriculum that has been proposed needs a more enlarged investment in order for it to function properly and effectively.

  • Currently, in Korea, the number of handicapped children receiving inclusive education in general schools is expanding. In the inclusive education field, the most important tasks are personal needs support, such as toilet assistance, meal assitance, and support for wearing and taking off various assistive devices. A significant portion of the support work in the actual education field is related to clothing. Therefore, it is necessary to research and develop universal fashion designs for handicapped children at school where inclusive education is implemented. To achieve this aim, this study analyzed the concepts, principles and, characteristics of universal fashion design through theoretical research and established research principles. In this study, two fact-finding surveys were conducted. Next, a total of 10 universal fashion designs were proposed considering both the preceding survey results and the principles of universal fashion design Among them, the four designs that were considered most suitable were selected for universal fashion design through F.G.I (Focus Group Interview) analysis conducted by experts. The four selected designs were made by referring to the size framework based on the '6th Human Body Size Survey Report of Korea'. The completed experimental clothes were proposed as the final universal fashion design for handicapped children by conducting external evaluation through a virtual clothing system and real clothes.

Effect of Body Image and Clothing Behavior on Self-Esteem of Multicultural Children (다문화가정 아동의 신체이미지와 의복행동이 자아존중감에 미치는 영향)

  • This research explores the relationship between body image and clothing behavior in order to enhance self-efficacy among multicultural children based on a survey of 167 children. The statistical analysis indicated that children value(in decreasing order)family-esteem, friend-esteem, self-esteem, and school-esteem. School-esteem is the lowest, with boys displaying slightly higher levels of esteem than girls. A boys' self-esteem appears enhanced by higher satisfaction with overall appearance and weight; however, girls' self-esteem helped them address appearance and physical characteristics with positive attitudes. In addition, the clothing behavior of children significantly influenced self-esteem to differing degrees based upon gender. A boys' self-esteem can be increased by having them show interest in clothes rather than letting them wear similar clothes to their friends because their self-esteem can be heightened by higher interests and lower similarity. A girls' self-esteem can be augmented by the clean management of clothes and comfortable wearing due to their emphasis on manageability and comfort. This survey was limited to the Gyeonggi and Inchon area and leaves room for future studies.

  • Recent economic depression aggravates the difficulty in employment, and it has been expanded to a social issue. Even worse, low wage structure in the textile and fashion industry, and inferior working environment make it difficult for fashion design graduates to stably settle down in society. To tackle all these problems, the demand of a new educational model is on the rise. In responding to such economic and educational environment changes, we can actively cope with structural problems in the textile and fashion field, and a social problem of youth unemployment by vigorously using the Internet as a tool for practice. In other words, Startups are reinvigorated through hands-on education, focused on information by introducing the factor of supply chain management (SCM), which efficiently manages resources within the supply chain, and a business to customer (B2C) model, and by utilizing these for startup education.

Teenager's Attitudes toward Clothing & School Uniform (청소년의 의복태도와 교복착용에 대한 태도)

  • Teenagers are fast in growth and very sensitive. They are more interested in appearance and clothing and they use it as a method of expressing themselves. Thus they show different attitudes toward clothing. This study is to survey teenagers' attitudes toward clothing, especially school uniform and to understand their psychological characteristics about clothing. The purpose of this study is to provide useful data in designing teenagers' school uniform which can serve to fulfill their clothing desire and beautiful school life. The results of this study can be summarized as follows. As of paradigm in clothing, they value individuality, economical efficiency, practicality, fashion, and conformity of clothes in the order of importance. They considered individuality value the most important. Students' preference of school uniform is not positive over all. About 60% of students support wearing uniform, and 50% like wearing uniform on the way to school. The reasons for wearing school uniform are psychological stability and economical efficiency. They think school uniform is well fitted for the student position and don't have to care about clothing if they wear school uniform. 63% of them prefer wearing famous brand but they think the price is too high. Comparing with male student, female students place more value on latest fashion and are more likely to purchase brand object than male students do. Female students have more experience in modification of school uniform than male students do. Based on the result of this study, we need to understand the students' attitudes toward school uniform and to accept demand of teenagers' idea in production of school uniform.

Differences of Appearance Management Behaviors among Clothing Consumption Value (의복소비가치에 따른 집단별 외모관리행동의 차이)

  • We intend an empirical assessment of examining the differences in the appearance management behaviors and demographic variables among groups classified by the clothing consumption values. The questionnaires are administered to 493 female and male adults above 20 years old in Seoul, Gyeonggi-do, Daegu and Kyungpook regions. For analysis of data from 478 respondents, descriptive statistics, cluster analysis, Cronbach's ${\alpha}$, ANOVA, Duncan test and ${\chi}^2$ test were applied. We show the following results. First, Factor analyses were employed for the clothing consumption values and appearance management behaviors. Six factors were for clothing consumption values: Individuality, appearance attractive, social, functional, conditional and fashion clothing consumption value. Four factors were for appearance management behaviors: weight training, skin care, hair care, make-up and clothing selection. According to clothing consumption values, four groups were classified: the passive, functional, social, and active group. We did cluster analysis to the appearance management behaviors of weight training, skin care, hair care, make-up and clothing selection. Second, the social and active groups were more interested in individuality, appearance attractive, social, functional, conditional and fashion clothing value. And they were also more involved in appearance management behaviors. Third, among the demographic variables, the single and female in 20s and 30s with higher level of education belonged to the active group. In this contribution, we find significant differences in the appearance management behavior and demographic variables classified by the clothing consumption values.

Response of the Adolescents to the School Uniform Regulations according to Personal Character and Clothing Needs (청소년의 성격특성과 의복욕구에 따른 교복복장규제에 대한 반응)

  • The response of the adolescents toward school uniform regulations according to personal character and clothing needs was studied. To carry out this experiment, questionnaires were administered to 514 students in middle and high schools in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do. The collected data were analyzed with Factor analysis(Varimax rotation), Cronbach's ${\alpha}$, Frequencies Statistics, t-test, ANOVA, and multiple regression analysis using the SPSS WIN 15.0. By surveying on actual condition of uniform regulation in school, it was found that the existing uniform regulation was unnecessarily strict and caused stress leading a negative educational effect. Based on the relationship among the degree of regulation, stress, and student attitude toward school uniform regulation, stress and negative attitude to uniform regulation increased as the degree of regulation increased, resulting in an decrease in observance behavior of students. Since the stress from the school uniform regulation can be reduced by establishing rational law, which induced voluntary conduct of student to obey, it is important for student to participate in establishment of adoptable and reasonable school uniform regulation law.

Development of a Free School Year Program for Sustainable Fashion Education I -Focused on Status Analysis and Suggestion about the Program- (지속가능패션교육을 위한 자유학년제 프로그램 개발 (제1보) -프로그램 현황 분석 및 제안을 중심으로-)

  • The purpose of this study was to develop a free semester program using sustainable materials therefore improving the clothing & textiles section of the middle school textbook and the systematic and in-depth sustainable fashion education based on theme selection activity, as one of free semester system activities in the middle school. Our analysis on the programs, which was performed from 2018 to 2019, showed that the clothing & textiles programs were majorly focused making simple household items through basic needlework and knitting. The programs that related to the sustainable fashion education were environmental programs associated with other textbooks, or mainly included simple upcycling and were mainly operated as arts & physical education or club activities, rather than theme selection programs. According to results from a questionnaire survey on teachers incharge of the system, they had an intention of starting sustainable fashion education program or clothing & textiles section but failed due to low number of participants, practice cost, and time burden. Based on our analysis, this study proposed a 17-session based free semester program that includes the understanding of the sustainable fashions concept, classification of sustainable materials and systematic and stepwise practice in association with the middle school textbook clothing & textile section. The teaching materials developed in this study are expected to be incorporated in the program that helps students understand the right concept of sustainable fashions and respond to the pending environmental issue actively and systematically.

A Study on the Image of Uniforms of Female Flight Attendants (항공사 여승무원 유니폼에 관한 이미지 연구)

  • The objective of this study is to examine the images of the current uniforms and to provide the basic references in designing female flight attendants uniforms. In Incheon International Airlines, 11 of the major airlines with the most passengers along with the highest capacity were chosen and 22 pieces of photographs were collected, two photos coming from each airline companies. The semantic differential scale has been formed by 16 pairs of adjectives. Then, it has conducted a statistical analysis using a SPSS WINDOWS that contains 475 copies of the selected questionnaires (375 of the non-flight attendants, and 100 of the female flight attendants). The following are the results and the conclusion of this study. According to this study, four main components of the uniforms of the female flight attendants were attractiveness, femininity, noticeability, and activity, which have occupied $65.9\%$ of the total variance. It was concluded that attractiveness and femininity were two main factors in perceiving the females' uniforms. According to the results of the uniform image difference, it was shown that Asiana Airline's uniform is the most attractive and Cathay Pacific Airline uniform is the most feminine. The most noticeable uniform was from Singapore airline which included cultural and traditional components of its own national colors. Pants suits of Lufthansa airline and Northwest airline were shown as the most active uniforms. There were significant differences in uniform images according to subjects' gender, age, education, and occupation. Men perceived uniforms more attractive, feminine, and active than women. People over 40 perceived uniforms more attractive, feminine, and active, and the High School graduates perceived uniforms more feminine and active. On occupational basis, Federal workers and Educators perceived uniforms more active on uniforms. Passengers who take planes once a month perceived uniforms more attractive, feminine, and active.
