  • Objectives : The objective of this study is to investigate the work value factors and the professional attitude factors of dental hygienists and provide basic data for dental hygiene curricula. Methods : A total of 329 dental hygiene students in 4 universities completed the questionnaire which consisted of 15 questions for the work value factors and 10 questions for the professional attitude factors. Correlation between the work value factors and the professional attitude factors was analyzed. Results : The "students with no clinical practice experience (4.34 points)" were seen to be statistically significant (p= .013) in the work value factors, as compared to the "students with clinical practice experience (4.19 points)". In accordance with the grade level (p= .000), conformity in aptitude (p= .022), satisfaction level for the major (p= .000), desired duration of career (p= .009), and presence of recommendation for dental hygiene department (p= .000), the professional attitude factors had statistically significant differences. The higher the scores of the work value factors of dental hygiene students, the higher the scores of the professional attitude factors appeared, there by showing a positive (+) correlation (r= .367). Conclusions : For the cultivation of work value factors and professional attitude factors for dental hygiene students, it is necessary to improve the educational system that reflects the operation of a counseling and mentoring by the utilization of structured personality type testing tools and an improvement of interpersonal relationships.

  • Objectives: The aim of this study was to develop a Phlegm Pattern Questionnaire for Functional Dyspepsia (PPQ-FD) by modifying a previously developed Phlegm Pattern Questionnaire (PPQ) and to verify its reliability and validity. Further objectives were to obtain the optimal cut-off value for the PPQ-FD for standardization and for clinical use. Methods: The PPQ-FD was developed by extracting the major symptoms of the phlegm pattern in functional dyspepsia and by using the Delphi method to administer a requested importance survey to experts. The reliability, validity, and optimal cut-off value of the PPQ-FD were analyzed by enrolling a total of 60 subjects in this study. Thirty patients were diagnosed with both functional dyspepsia and phlegm pattern and thirty patients were diagnosed with only functional dyspepsia. All participants were requested to fill out the PPQ-FD. Results: No statistically significant differences were detected in the two groups for sex distribution, age, or body mass index. Five of the survey questions negatively affected its reliability; therefore, we decided to exclude those five questions on further inspection. The Cronbach's α coefficient of the revised PPQ-FD was 0.853, and clinical validity was verified. Construct validity was analyzed by factor analysis and identified four factors. Statistically significant positive correlations were found between the revised PPQ-FD and other dyspepsia scales, such as the SQDQ, SSQD, VAS, NDI-K, and FD-QoL scales. The VAS had particularly strong positive correlations with the PPQ-FD. Conclusions: The PPQ-FD developed in this study has fundamental reliability and validity for use as a pattern-diagnosis questionnaire. The PPQ-FD can help to diagnose the phlegm pattern in patients with functional dyspepsia.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to investigate the satisfaction of students who participated in a role play using the syndrome differentiation CPX (Clinical Performance Examination) scenario in Korean Medicine Classics class, and to find out whether the results were correlated with self-assessment of treatment skills and subject achievement. Methods : In the Korean Medicine Classics class in the first semester of 2022, 44 first-year students in the Department of Korean Medicine completed theoretical education and formative evaluation on the subject of internal damage fever, and then role-played using CPX scenarios. Among them, 41 students consented to the study. Students who agreed to the study answered the satisfaction questionnaire consisting of 13 questions in 2 areas on learning methods and effects, and self-evaluation was conducted according to the evaluation items of medical technology consisting of 23 questions. Satisfaction and self-assessment results were analyzed for correlation, and additionally, correlation with Korean Medicine Classics subject achievement was also analyzed. Results : The result of student satisfaction with the role play was 4.87±0.06 while the result of student self-assessment of clinical skill was 4.73±0.16. The student satisfaction with the role play showed statisticallysignificant correlations with the self-assessment of clinical skill and quiz score of Korean Medical Classics while it did not show correlations with the total score of Korean Medical Classics and paper test. Also, the self-assessment of clinical skill did not show correlations with the total score of Korean Medical Classics, paper test, and quiz. Conclusions : Even though the students who performed the role play using the syndrome differentiation based CPX scenario highly assessed their clinical skill and showed high satisfaction, it did not show significant correlation with the achievement of Korean Medical Classics.

As for the observation practice by each grade, there was significant difference in oral radiology, pediatric dentistry, periodontology, oral surgery(p<0.05). As for the performance practice executed for each grade, there was significant difference in the oral radiology, preventive dentistry and oral surgery(p<0.05). As for the satisfaction level for each grade, there was significant difference in basic medical service(p<0.05). 2. As for the observation practice by each clinical practice institution, there was significant difference in oral medicine, oral radiology, preventive dentistry, prosthodontics, pediatric dentistry, orthodontics and oral surgery(p<0.05). As for the performance practice executed by each practice institution, there was significant difference in basic medical service, oral medicine, oral radiology, operative dentistry, prosthodontics, orthodontics, oral surgery(p<0.05). As for the satisfaction level by each practice institution, there was significant difference in the oral radiology, preventive dentistry, operative dentistry, prosthodontics, orthodontics, oral surgery(p<0.05). Conclusions : As for the satisfaction level for the clinical practice, basic medical service is the crimary care clinical practice which is most basic and that is executed the most in a dental clinic. Satisfaction level was the highest in the domains where there were extensive observation and practice frequency. By conducting observation and practice frequency in the clinical practice process by each clinical practice domain in a broad and diverse manner, it would be possible to improve the ability of the clinical practice trainees who improve their clinical work execution capability and satisfaction level on the clinical practice.
