Large-scale and accurate observations at fine spatial resolution through a means of remote sensing offer an effective tool for capturing rainfall variability over the traditional rain gauges and weather radars. Although satellite rainfall products (SRPs) derived using two major estimation approaches were evaluated worldwide, their practical applications suffered from limitations. In particular, the traditional top-down SRPs (e.g., IMERG), which are based on direct estimation of rain rate from microwave satellite observations, are mainly restricted with their coarse spatial resolution, while applications of the bottom-up approach, which allows backward estimation of rainfall from soil moisture signals, to novel high spatial resolution soil moisture satellite sensors over South Korea are not introduced. Thus, this study aims to evaluate the performances of a state-of-the-art bottom-up SRP (the self-calibrated SM2RAIN model) applied to the C-band SAR Sentinel-1, a statistically downscaled version of the conventional top-down IMERG SRP, and their integration for a targeted high spatial resolution of 0.01° (~ 1-km) over central South Korea, where the differences in climate zones (coastal region vs. mainland region) and vegetation covers (croplands vs. mixed forests) are highlighted. The results indicated that each single SRP can provide plus points in distinct climatic and vegetated conditions, while their drawbacks have existed. Superior performance was obtained by merging these individual SRPs, providing preliminary results on a complementary high spatial resolution SRP over central South Korea. This study results shed light on the further development of integration framework and a complementary high spatial resolution rainfall product from multi-satellite sensors as well as multi-observing systems (integrated gauge-radar-satellite) extending for entire South Korea, toward the demands for urban hydrology and microscale agriculture.

This pilot study aimed to investigate the effects of regional and seasonal variations on the prevalence of Theileria orientalis and the hematological profile of non-grazed dairy cows in Korea. A total of 365 clinically healthy lactating Holstein Friesian cows from 26 dairy farms in 7 provinces that were categorized into northern, central, and southern regions were sampled during the warm period from July to August and the cold period from October to December. The detection of T. orientalis major piroplasm surface protein gene and the hematology non-grazed dairy cows were analyzed using peripheral blood samples. The T. orientalis prevalence was 20.0% (73/365). The prevalence in the southern region was 35.9%, which was significantly higher than that in the central (21.6%) and northern (12.9%) regions (P<0.05). The prevalence during warm period was higher (43.0%) than that during the cold season (13.5%). The infected cows showed significantly lower erythrocyte counts in the southern region (5.8±0.6 M/㎕) and during the warm period (5.8±0.7 M/㎕) compared with those in the central and northern regions and during the cold season, which affected the extended RBC parameters, including hematocrit and hemoglobin concentrations. Our findings revealed the prevalence of T. orientalis in Korea, highlighting its high occurrence during warm periods and in certain geographical regions. Climatic factors could contribute to the health and productivity of cattle, as evidenced by the prevalence of T. orientalis and its negative impact on animals.
This study focus on the analysis of the energy performance in accordance with apartment houses arrangement type by using Ecotect Analysis. Korea, energy-poor country, the rate of dependence on imports amount to 94%, have to reduce energy consumption part of building except in industry and transport which affect the economic. Apartment houses are built in various forms in order to reduce energy, are modelled in each window area ratio, shape, orientation, climate through simulation. Through this study, we can analyze energy performance by form, window area ratio, orientation, climate change and know the optimal elements by the form. In particular, although there have been studied research on the window area ratio and research related to the arrangement form, determined that the information on the regional climate characteristics and the direction of placement is less than existing research. To supplement those problem, adding to seven direction(West, S-60-W, S-30-W, South, S-30-E, S-60-E, East) and climatic element(southern region) is characteristic of this study. The form of apartment houses was modelled for apartment houses built in the 10 years since. And each modeling were analyzed by Ecotect Analysis.
Purpose: Ballparks of KBO which were built by local governments and operated for baseball game-centered have been required more sustainable development according to going into low growth phase in Korea recently. MLB ballparks with the teams having 100 year old tradition have been sustainable-developed economically, socially, environmentally and culturally. This research is to study the characteristics of cultural sustainability in architectural design of 30 MLB parks. Method: To begin with comparison analysis of usage rate of 10 ballparks of KBO with 30 ballparks of MLB, and architectural designs of facades, fields, accommodations, sculptures, greens, roof gardens, etc. are analyzed in the MLB ballpark. And finally, the characteristics of cultural sustainability in the architectural design are analyzed. Result: MLB ballparks have played role as core-space of urban community, accumulated space of citizens' memory being originated in natural climatic feature of region, historical image of city and tradition of home-ballpark. A basis of these characteristics could is nature of cultural sustainability, that is to say local community, historical restoration, social solidarity.
The purpose of this study is to study how F.L. Wright reflected the climatic properties and materials of the region into creative ways of designing his architecture. The research method examined the design methods and use of materials by Wright in existing research literature and compares the space plans of housing works in Arizona. The research results will be summarized as follows : 1) For two-story houses, pilotis was used to avoid the hot air and the walls on the ground floor were often planned as thick wall. 2) In the fifties, F.L. Wright's design method changed in a circle from the vertical and horizontal lines. 3) F.L.Wright's Architectural form concepts and design concepts were extracted from local symbolic forms and natural forms. 4) F.L.Wright avoided Arizona's direct light but Indirect sunlight enters into the interior space. 5)External space was expressed as a closed space, while internal space was expressed as an open space. It's like an organic space. 6) Most of the housing materials used are stone and cement from rough deserts, and wood with low heat conductivity and thick concrete blocks to prevent the sunlight from rising above.

'Gawaji 1', an early maturing and low amylose content rice variety adaptable to double cropping system with barley as later winter crop., was developed by the crop breeding team of Crop Research Division, GARES, Hwaseong, Korea in 2016. 'Gawaji 1' was derived from a cross between 'Baegjinju' and 'Sangmibyeo' in 2004. This variety had heading date of August 4 in Gyeonggi Province. It had a semi-elect plant type and resistance to lodging with strong culm. Its culm length was 67 cm. This variety had 15 tillers per hill and 104 spikelets per panicle. It was medium grain variety showing 1,000 grain weight of brown rice of 19.3g. Its protein contents of milled rice was 8.2% which was lower than 'Baegjinju'. Its milling ratio was 75.5% which was higher than 'Baegjinju'. The yield of milled rice was 5.0 MT/ha under the ordinary culture of the local adaptability test in 3 areas of Gyeonggi Province for three years. 'Gawaji1' is highly adaptable to Gyeonggi Province, especially to northern region of Han River.

The Yellow River delta is an important region where coastal and newly formed wetlands distribute in north China. Based on satellite remote sensing images and GIS techniques, this paper tends to delineate the dynamic changes of newly formed wetland in the Yellow River mouth from 1986.5 to 1996.10. Our results show that the newly formed wetland increased by 24.9 $\textrm{km}^2$ per year. Before 1990. 1 and it decreased by 2.40 $\textrm{km}^2$ per year after that. The northern and southwestern parts of the Yellow River mouth are main positions of decrease and the southern and the estuary parts are main positions of increase. The advancing rate of river mouth extending into the Bo Sea is decreasing obviously. The reason for that is the decreasing of water and sediments in the Yellow River, which caused by the increasing use of water and soil conservation on upper reach.
The degree of contamination on outdoor insulator is one of the most important factors for the determination of insulation level. And the salt, NaCl, is known as the most dangerous contaminants in the most region of the world. As shown through the preceding study, we could find the close relationship between the generation and deposition of salt contaminants and the meteorological conditions. To analyze the relationship, we monthly measured the ESDD for some sites with brush wiping method, and daily measured the density for one site with the automatic measuring apparatus. And, with the measured data and the meteorological data from KMA(Korea Meteorological Administration), we analyzed the relationship between the two factors with regression method. Through the results of this investigation, we could quantify the comparative contribution of the climatic factors for the pollution level of outdoor insulator, and the results could be used as a useful reference for the maintenance of overhead lines and substations.

The main goal of this paper is to assess application of UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) remote sensing and GIS based images in detection and measuring of rice field drought area in South Korea. Drought is recurring feature of the climatic events, which often hit South Korea, bringing significant water shortages, local economic losses and adverse social consequences. This paper describes the assesment of the near-realtime drought damage monitoring and reporting system for the agricultural drought region. The system is being developed using drought-related vegetation characteristics, which are derived from UAV remote sensing data. The study area is $3.07km^2$ of Wonbuk-myeon, Taean-gun, Chungnam in South Korea. UAV images were acquired three times from July 4 to October 29, 2015. Three images of the same test site have been analysed by object-based image classification technique. Drought damaged paddy rices reached $754,362m^2$, which is 47.1 %. The NongHyeop Agricultural Damage Insurance accepted agricultural land of 4.6 % ($34,932m^2$). For paddy rices by UAV investigation, the drought monitoring and crop productivity was effective in improving drought assessment method.
