A biofilm reactor packed with porous media was investigated for nitrogen removal of synthetic wastewater. The effect of different loading rates on the nitrification was sustained to be steady state with stable efficiency of 50~60% in the range of $0.0083{\sim}0.017gNH_4-N/gMLVSS{\cdot}day$ of F/MN ratio and $1{\sim}2kgNH_4-N/m^3{\cdot}day$ of media volumetric loading rate. However, nitrification efficiency was rapidly decreased to 25~30% as F/MN ratio and media volumetric loading rate were increased to the range of $0.025{\sim}0.034gNH_4-N/gMLVSS{\cdot}day$ and $3{\sim}4kgNH_4-N/m^3{\cdot}day$, respectively. Also the consumption rate of alkalinity was higher under 8 hours of HRT than unter 6 hours of HRT. Accordingly the influent loading rate variation by detention time with influent flow influenced more on the nitrification efficiency than the influent loading rate variation by the influent concentration did. The temperature effect on the nitrification showed 25% higher in summer than in winter as the results reported by other researchers who reported that the nitrification efficiency in biofilm showed 20% increase from 55% to 75% when the temperature was raised from $20^{\circ}C$ to $25^{\circ}C$. Denitrification with sulfur-media showed 90% removal efficiency under steady-state with no effect from the increase of influent concentration and empty bed contact time (EBCT) change such as EBCT was decreased from 8.4 hr to 4.3 hr and $NO_3-N$ loading rate was changed within the range of $0.1{\sim}0.4kgNO^3-N/m^3{\cdot}day$. Accordingly Denitrification with sulfur-media is feasible for post denitrification at the concentration less than $80mgNO^3-N/L$.
Air pollutants in a subway are complexly caused by outdoor factors such as ventilating opening and indoor factors such as the movement of passengers on the subway. According to recent research results, most of the air pollutants generated in subway tunnels and stations are caused by indoor variables such as train movement. To control air pollutants such as particulate matter (PM), a prevention facility such as the electrostatic precipitator (EP) or bag filter collector was required in a subway station. In particular, the PM removed by the EP must be kept clean continuously to manage PM effectively. Therefore, a nano-bubbling washing system was developed in this study to clean a contaminated collecting plate in an EP at the main subway tunnel in Seoul. Removal efficiency compared with normal water and nano-bubbling water was likewise studied. As a result, the washing efficiency of collective PM increased in accordance with the increasing of injection pressure, with nano bubbling washing being 130.8% higher than tap water. According to increase in washing times, the maximum washing efficiency was 143.1% higher than tap water, but suitable washing times were less than 3 times. According to the results of the washing efficiency by variation of residence time, it was confirmed that the maximum residence time of nano-bubble water was maintained within 5 minutes.
Fluoride-type cleaning agents such as 2,2,2-trifluoroethanol (TFEA) and hydrofluoroethers (HFEs) do not destroy ozone in the stratosphere and have low global warming potential compared to hydrofluorocarbons(HFCs) and hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs). Especially, HFEs which have no flash point are paid attention as next generation type of cleaning agents for chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) since they are safe in handling and have excellent penetration ability compared to hydrocarbon cleaning agents with low flash point. Here, the physical properties and cleaning abilities of fluoride-type cleaning agents such as TFEA, HFE-7100, HFE-7200, HFE-476mec, HFE-449mec-f, AE-3000 and AE-3100E and silicide-type cleaning agents such as trifluoroetoxytrimethylsilane (TFES) and hexamethyldisilazane (HMDS) were measured and compared with those of ozone destruction substances such as CFC-113 and 1,1,1-trichloroethane. They were also compared with toxic methylene chloride (MC) and isopropyl alcohol (IPA) which are now being used as an alternative cleaning agents. As a result, TFEA and HFEs had lower cleaning ability for removal of various soils compared to chloride-type cleaning agents, but they showed excellent cleaning ability fur fluoride-type soils. TFES and HMDS also showed excellent cleaning ability for silicide-type soils.

Clean fire extinguishing agents refer to chemical that can replace Halon 1211 and Halon 1310 according to the Montreal Protocol fermented to protect the Earth's ozone layer. In Korea and abroad, system standardization and performance evaluation of clean fire extinguishing agents are being carried out. This paper proposes an optimal nozzle shape by modeling and numerical analysis of various nozzle shapes based on general clean fire extinguishing system. The ejection speed of the nozzle can be improved by studying three - dimensional modeling of the nozzle for two shapes, Type A and B. Flow analysis was performed on the two types of nozzles and the gas velocity and pressure distribution were measured with different nozzle diameters. It was confirmed that the jetting speed was changed at the nozzle outlet according to the number and diameter of the nozzle holes. The flow rate increased with increasing the pressure regardless of the nozzle hole diameter. Based on the results obtained from the experiment, the K-factor value was deduced. Finally, a nozzle with a 12-hole structure with a 5-mm nozzle hole was proposed.

Separation of ethylene from ethane and propylene from propane have been conducted using facilitated olefin transport membrane with SPEEK-Ag (Ag substituted sulfonated poly(ether ether ketone)). SPEEK was prepared by the sulfonation of PEEK using cone. $H_2SO_4$ and the reaction time affected the degree of sulfonation (DS) of the resulting SPEEK. SPEEK-Ag composite membrane was formed by soaking SPEEK in the polyester support into the Ag salt solution. With increasing the concentration of SPEEK in MeOH, the thickness of SPEEK on the polyester increased. The selectivity and the flux of SPEEK-Ag membrane for the separation of ethylene/ethane and propylene/propane were changed by the thickness of SPEEK layer on the top of polyester support. The anion of silver salt also affects the membrane performance.
Recently, due to the increase in the fine dust, regulations on PM generated from diesel cars are strengthened. There is a growing interest in diesel particulate filters (DPFs), a post-treatment device that removes exhaust gases from diesel vehicles. Therefore, one of the enhancements of the DPF efficiency is to reduce the pressure drop in the DPF, thereby increasing the efficiency of the filter and regeneration. In this study, the effect of cell density, channel shape, wall thickness, and inlet channel ratio of 5.66" SiC and Cordierite DPF on the pressure drop in DPF was investigated using ANSYS FLUENT simulator. As a result of the experiment, the pressure drop was smaller at 300 CPSI than 200 CPSI, and the anisotropy and O / S cell showed less than Isotropy by pressure drop of about 1,000 Pa. As the porosity increased by 10% the pressure drop was reduced by about 300 Pa and as the wall thickness increased by 0.05 mm, the pressure drop was increased by about 500 Pa.
Since 2019, the corona virus has been continuously affect human life. In particular, in the indoor space where people live, infection by airborne transmission of viruses is a problem. Among them, the spread in the subway, which is the main mode of transport for humans, can be serious. To solve this problem, our research team developed an ionic wind collector to collect and remove corona virus using an ionic wind collector and ozone. In order to apply the ionic wind collector to the subway, it must operate in two modes. Because large amounts of ozone are harmful to the human body. There is a mode that collects bio-aerosol from the air using ionic wind and a mode that inactivates viruses floating in the air by generating a large amount of ozone. As the applied voltage increased, the cleaning ability of the ionic wind collector increased, and the farther the distance between the discharge electrode and the ground plate, the higher the cleaning ability even at low current. In addition, clean air delivery rate (CADR) of an ionic wind collector was up to 5.5 m3/min. As a result of measuring the amount of ozone generated, it was confirmed that 50 ppb to 250 ppb was generated, and it was confirmed that ozone generation was controllable in the ionic wind dust collector.

Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) has been studied on the reuse of glass bottles. The system boundary in this study encompassed from gate to gate such as production and transportation. A 360 mL volume of a glass bottle was selected as the functional unit. The environmental impact assessments was studied on 6 categories including abiotic resource depletion, acidification, eutrophication, global warming, ozone depletion, and photochemical oxidant creation. The results showed that the most significant impact categories were abiotic resource depletion (48.63%) and global warming (46.27%), and the rest categories revealed insignificant impacts. In the whole system, the chemicals used for the new bottle production revealed the major contribution to the environmental impacts (71.24%), followed by the use of electricity (16.74%) and transportation (11.8%). In addition, the environmental impact of sodium silicate to be put into the stage of the new bottle production was found to be 45.68%, causing severe influence on abiotic resource depletion and global warming.
The waste solution discharged form the LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) manufacturing process contains phosphoric acid, nitric acid, acetic acid and metal ions such Al and other impurities. In this study, vacuum evaporation and diffusion dialysis was developed to commercialize an efficient system for recovering the high-purity phosphoric acid and manufacturing monoammonium phosphate. By vacuum evaporation, almost 99% of nitric and acetic acid was removed. Also, by diffusion dialysis, about 97.5% of Al was removed. Monoammonium phosphate was manufactured from purified phosphoric acid and ammonium hydroxide. In order to get the optimum manufacturing condition, the molar ratio of ammonium hydroxide and phosphoric acid, pH and temperature was controlled. Using this optimum condition, we obtained the recovery rate of monoammonium phosphate of about 90%.
In this study, Austrian cleaner production program, ECOPROFIT, was introduced to 15 companies in Korea. The performance and the proposed options of the program were compared with those of Austria. Various options such as good housekeeping, process changes, internal/external recycling, substitution of raw materials were suggested for domestic companies. There are something in common between Korea and Austria such as no relation between company sizes and derived options and good housekeeping as a major option. The difference is that 1.9 years of recovery period on investment is required in Korea, while only 0.5 year is required in Austria. The reason for not applying the suggestions was due to the priority of the company policies in Korea, but was due to the technical problems in Austria. To activate the cleaner production in the Korean regional industry, more systematic analysis on the examples and performances as well as additional studies to disseminate informations and the best practices are necessary.
