  • Current interest in mathematics learning that focuses on understanding, mathematical reasoning and meaning making underscores the need to develop ways of analyzing classrooms that foster these types of learning. In this paper, the author show that the constructs of social and socio-mathematical norms, which grew out of taking a symbolic interactionist perspective, and Toulmins scheme for argumentation, as elaborated for mathematics education by Krummheuer [The ethnology of argumentation. In: The emergence of mathematical meaning: Interaction in classroom cultures (1995, pp. 229-269). Hillsdale, NJ: Erlbaum], provide us with means to analyze aspects of explanation, justification and argumentation in mathematics classrooms, including means through which they can be fostered. Examples from a variety of classrooms are used to clarify how these notions can inform instruction at all levels, from the elementary grades through university-level mathematics.

  • There is a tradition of advocating the 'two basics' (basic knowledge and basic skills) in Chinese mathematics education. The direct consequence is that Chinese students are able to produce excellent performance in the international mathematics examinations and outstanding results in the international mathematics competitions. In this article, we will present why and how Chinese teachers teach the 'two basics,' and how combine the pupil's creativity with their 'two basics.' Open ended problem solving is a way to meet the goal. The following topics will be concerned: Culture background; the speed of computation; 'make perfect' ; Efficiency in classroom; Balance between 'two basics' and personal development. In Particular, Chinese mathematics educators pay more attentions to the link between open ended problem solving and the 'two basics' principal.

  • This thesis is a research to develop mathematical problems related to every day life, and to apply to mathematical extracurricular activity. The conclusions are as followings; (1) The materials of mathematical extracurricular activity totaling 34 hours' class time were developed and its theaching methods were thought out. (2) Through studying the mathematical problems related to everyday life, we could create a lively atmosphere in the classroom. (3) Through studying the mathematical problems related to everyday life, we could change the learning attitude of students affirmatively and make the students solve the problems for themselves. (4) We could try to build up to the management of mathematical extracurricular activity.

  • School age is the period when forms the most of physical, spiritual and behavioral developmental characteristics. And those are kept for lifetime. Since each of developmental characteristics is created through the interaction with physical environment, the learning space which is children's main playground should be designed as healing environment. Therefor, the purpose of this research is to find the healing environmental elements for learning space that help school children's developmental characteristics. For that, we researched the physical, spiritual and behavioral developmental characteristics of school children. And we found the healing environmental characteristics for learning space along with each developmental characteristics, by the analysis of Herman Hertzberger's elementary schools' classroom environment.

  • For design research of teenagers' posture correcting shirt, postures of teenagers were analyzed and became the base of inventing suitable patterns. The subjects of this study were 198 of both female and male middle school students from the city of Seoul. Students' postures in classroom and length change of body surface were observed and analyzed; based on this, total of 5 postures was selected, and length changes of body surface were applied. The patterns in this study were designed with stretch material to help antagonism by muscle movements. Each fabric that was used in this study had 110% of stretch, 120~140% of stretch, and 150~170% of stretch. Both of one-way-fabric and duplex-fabric were used in this study, depending on application site.

  • The Purpose of this study is to enhance the efficiency of clothing-making units in the textbook of Home Economics for the high school students. I handed out a research paper with several questions to 75 teachers and 87 students to find out the realities of the education. There are several problems of making clothes at class: lack of time, appropriate equipment and efficient learning material. To solve these problems. I made a half-sized skirt kit utilizing OPTI Tex. a type of CAD in fashion design and copied it by silkscreen. and let the students use it. Both of the teachers and students showed positive response to the newly made kit of my own. saying that \"it is very handy to prepare and it\`s very helpful to figure out how to make skirt. \" Using the kit. we could reduce the time to make clothes by about 60 % and do well in the classroom without any sewing machines.

  • The size and location of spaces need to be changed for teaching & learning activities in open education. This study is aimed to investigate how school facilities should be rearranged when the open education is implemented in elementary school. Some considerations such as enlargement of classroom, establishment of open space, and provision of various self-learning spaces are proposed for the rearrangement. It is also recommended that (1) a space for research and conference for teachers, (2) a multi-learning space to be utilized by connecting general and special classrooms, and (3) an open space for exclusive use of one grade or two grades be established.

  • This study focused on retraining programs for cuisiniers and drawing attention to the necessity of retraining and the new method of retraining for cuisiniers as a professional in a knowledge based society. Case study review and interviews followed by thorough review of related literatures were taken place to give suggestions and comments for the improvement of job performance enhance training for cuisiniers. Interviews were done with current participants and institutional trainers in March, 2008. Result from the interviews showed that retraining was really necessary. It was concluded that various retraining programs organized and developed by an association could be the solution. Methods of retraining can take formats of distance learning, classroom learning, and blended learning. However, working condition for most cuisiniers at present would allow them to squeeze some time off to attend higher education and most restaurant companies are not big enough to offer systematic job training on site or not stable enough to arrange replacement workers. It is therefore suggested to adopt a blended learning method and further study on this subject is highly recommended.

  • Purpose: This study was carried out to identify the effects of classroom lectures on adolescent nursing education in distance education. Method: The design of this study was a quasi-experimental research with nonequivalent control group, pretest-posttest design. The subjects of this study were 434 nurses in K open university. Data were collected from April to June, 2009 by the adolescent delinquency measurement scale and questionnaire for awareness of the issue in adolescent health education. Result: The both groups perceived the biggest problem as the lack of assigned education time in adolescent health education. After receiving education, the experimental group improved significantly more than the control group in recognition of adolescent problem behavior which is in interpersonal, intermaterial, order, drug, sex, position, alcohol/smoking delinquency and psychiatric problem. Conclusion: This adolescent nursing education is an effective education for nurses and could improve their recognition of adolescent problem behavior.

  • One of the most fundamental problems in education in Korea up to yet is that teaching-learning activities in the classroom are carried out without considering each student\\`s interest, ability aptitude and other attributes. In 1995, National committee on Educational Reform of Korea recommended big changes on various aspects of the education system of the nation. In 1997, just before so-called the \\\"International Monetary Fund (IMF) crisis \\\" in Korea, Ministry of Education announced the seventh amendment of national curriculum. The foundation of new national curriculum is the implementation of a \\\"differentiated\\\" curriculum. Also, the new curriculum strongly suggests \\\"performance assessment\\\", which was introduced to the nation in mid 1990\\`s. However, most mathematics teachers have reluctant to both new curriculum and performance assessment.
