Multiple waves of COVID-19 highlighted one crucial aspect of this pandemic worldwide that factors affecting the spread of COVID-19 infection are evolving based on various regional and local practices and events. The introduction of vaccines since early 2021 is expected to significantly control and reduce the cases. However, virus mutations and its new variant has challenged these expectations. Several countries, which contained the COVID-19 pandemic successfully in the first wave, failed to repeat the same in the second and third waves. This work focuses on COVID-19 pandemic control and management in Saudi Arabia. This work aims to predict new cases using deep learning using various important factors. The proposed method is called Deep Learning and Dynamic Weighing-based (DLDW) COVID-19 cases prediction method. Special consideration has been given to the evolving factors that are responsible for recent surges in the pandemic. For this purpose, two weights are assigned to data instance which are based on feature importance and dynamic weight-based time. Older data is given fewer weights and vice-versa. Feature selection identifies the factors affecting the rate of new cases evolved over the period. The DLDW method produced 80.39% prediction accuracy, 6.54%, 9.15%, and 7.19% higher than the three other classifiers, Deep learning (DL), Random Forest (RF), and Gradient Boosting Machine (GBM). Further in Saudi Arabia, our study implicitly concluded that lockdowns, vaccination, and self-aware restricted mobility of residents are effective tools in controlling and managing the COVID-19 pandemic.

Recently, transfer learning techniques with a base convolutional neural network (CNN) model have widely gained acceptance in early detection and classification of crop diseases to increase agricultural productivity with reducing disease spread. The transfer learning techniques based classifiers generally achieve over 90% of classification accuracy for crop diseases using dataset of crop leaf images (e.g., PlantVillage dataset), but they have ability to classify only the pre-trained diseases. This paper provides with an evaluation scheme on selecting an effective base CNN model for crop disease transfer learning with regard to the accuracy of trained target crops as well as of untrained target crops. First, we present transfer learning models called CDC (crop disease classification) architecture including widely used base (pre-trained) CNN models. We evaluate each performance of seven base CNN models for four untrained crops. The results of performance evaluation show that the DenseNet201 is one of the best base CNN models.

Vocal detection is one of the fundamental steps in musical information retrieval. Typically, the detection process consists of feature extraction and classification steps. Recently, neural networks are shown to outperform traditional classifiers. In this paper, we report our study on how to improve detection accuracy further by carefully choosing the parameters of the deep network model. Through experiments, we conclude that a feature-classifier model is still better than an end-to-end model. The recommended model uses a spectrogram as the input plane and the classifier is an 18-layer convolutional neural network (CNN). With this arrangement, when compared with existing literature, the proposed model improves the accuracy from 91.8% to 94.1% in Jamendo dataset. As the dataset has an accuracy of more than 90%, the improvement of 2.3% is difficult and valuable. If even higher accuracy is required, the ensemble learning may be used. The recommend setting is a majority vote with seven proposed models. Doing so, the accuracy increases by about 1.1% in Jamendo dataset.

While biometric authentication system has been in general use, research is ongoing to apply biometric data to public key infrastructure. It is a significant task to generate a cryptographic key from biometrics in setting up a public key of Bio-PKI. Methods for generating the key by quantization of feature vector can cause data loss and degrade the performance of key extraction. In this paper, we suggest a new method for generating a cryptographic key from classification results of biometric data using multiple classifying models. Our proposal does not cause data loss of feature vector so it showed better performance in key extraction. Also, it uses the multiple models to generate key blocks which produce sufficient length of the key.

The performance of text classification is highly related to the feature selection methods. Usually, two tasks are performed when a feature selection method is applied to construct a feature set; 1) assign score to each feature and 2) select the top-N features. The selection of top-N features in the existing filter-based feature selection methods is biased by their discriminative power and the empirical process which is followed to determine the value of N. In order to improve the text classification performance by presenting a more illustrative feature set, we present an approach via a potent representation learning technique, namely DBN (Deep Belief Network). This algorithm learns via the semantic illustration of documents and uses feature vectors for their formulation. The nodes, iteration, and a number of hidden layers are the main parameters of DBN, which can tune to improve the classifier's performance. The results of experiments indicate the effectiveness of the proposed method to increase the classification performance and aid developers to make effective decisions in certain domains.
Manually reviewing electroencephalograms (EEGs) is labor-intensive and demands automated seizure detection systems. To construct an efficient and robust event detector for experimental seizures from continuous EEG monitoring, we combined spectral analysis and deep neural networks. A deep neural network was trained to discriminate periodograms of 5-sec EEG segments from annotated convulsive seizures and the pre- and post-EEG segments. To use the entire EEG for training, a second network was trained with non-seizure EEGs that were misclassified as seizures by the first network. By sequentially applying the dual deep neural networks and simple pre- and post-processing, our autodetector identified all seizure events in 4,272 h of test EEG traces, with only 6 false positive events, corresponding to 100% sensitivity and 98% positive predictive value. Moreover, with pre-processing to reduce the computational burden, scanning and classifying 8,977 h of training and test EEG datasets took only 2.28 h with a personal computer. These results demonstrate that combining a basic feature extractor with dual deep neural networks and rule-based pre- and post-processing can detect convulsive seizures with great accuracy and low computational burden, highlighting the feasibility of our automated seizure detection algorithm.

Object detection and tracking is the basic capability of mobile robots to achieve natural human-robot interaction. In this paper, an object tracking system of mobile robot is designed and validated using improved multiple instance learning algorithm. The improved multiple instance learning algorithm which prevents model drift significantly. Secondly, in order to improve the capability of classifiers, an active sample selection strategy is proposed by optimizing a bag Fisher information function instead of the bag likelihood function, which dynamically chooses most discriminative samples for classifier training. Furthermore, we integrate the co-training criterion into algorithm to update the appearance model accurately and avoid error accumulation. Finally, we evaluate our system on challenging sequences and an indoor environment in a laboratory. And the experiment results demonstrate that the proposed methods can stably and robustly track moving object.
Analysis and Tracking of bug reports is a challenging field in software repositories mining. It is one of the fundamental ways to explores a large amount of data acquired from defect tracking systems to discover patterns and valuable knowledge about the process of bug triaging. Furthermore, bug data is publically accessible and available of the following systems, such as Bugzilla and JIRA. Moreover, with robust machine learning (ML) techniques, it is quite possible to process and analyze a massive amount of data for extracting underlying patterns, knowledge, and insights. Therefore, it is an interesting area to propose innovative and robust solutions to analyze and track bug reports originating from different open source projects, including Mozilla and Eclipse. This research study presents an ML-based classification model to analyze and track bug defects for enhancing software engineering management (SEM) processes. In this work, Artificial Neural Network (ANN) and Naive Bayesian (NB) classifiers are implemented using open-source bug datasets, such as Mozilla and Eclipse. Furthermore, different evaluation measures are employed to analyze and evaluate the experimental results. Moreover, a comparative analysis is given to compare the experimental results of ANN with NB. The experimental results indicate that the ANN achieved high accuracy compared to the NB. The proposed research study will enhance SEM processes and contribute to the body of knowledge of the data mining field.

Classifying work trades using images can serve an important role in a multitude of advanced applications in construction management and automated progress monitoring. However, images obtained from work sites may not always be clean. Defective images can damage an image classifier's accuracy which gives rise to a needs for a method to enhance a work trade image classifier's performance. We propose a method that uses work dependency information to aid image classifiers. We show that using work dependency can enhance the classifier's performance, especially when a base classifier is not so great in doing its job.

In this paper, we proposed a novel modulation recognition method based on quantum elephant herding algorithm (QEHA) evolving neural network under impulse noise environment. We use the adaptive weight myriad filter to preprocess the received digital modulation signals which passing through the impulsive noise channel, and then the instantaneous characteristics and high order cumulant features of digital modulation signals are extracted as classification feature set, finally, the BP neural network (BPNN) model as a classifier for automatic digital modulation recognition. Besides, based on the elephant herding optimization (EHO) algorithm and quantum computing mechanism, we design a quantum elephant herding algorithm (QEHA) to optimize the initial thresholds and weights of the BPNN, which solves the problem that traditional BPNN is easy into local minimum values and poor robustness. The experimental results prove that the adaptive weight myriad filter we used can remove the impulsive noise effectively, and the proposed QEHA-BPNN classifier has better recognition performance than other conventional pattern recognition classifiers. Compared with other global optimization algorithms, the QEHA designed in this paper has a faster convergence speed and higher convergence accuracy. Furthermore, the effect of symbol shape has been considered, which can satisfy the need for engineering.
