  • Packet classification is an essential architectural component in implementing the quality-of-service (QoS) in today's Internet which provides a best-effort service to ail of its applications. Multiple header fields of incoming packets are compared against a set of rules in packet classification, the highest priority rule among matched rules is selected, and the packet is treated according to the action of the rule. In this Paper, we proposed a new packet classification scheme based on parallel multiple hashing on tuple spaces. Simulation results using real classifiers show that the proposed scheme provides very good performance on the required number of memory accesses and the memory size compared with previous works.

  • The process of categorizing packets into 'class' in an Internet router is called packet classification. All packets with same class obey predefined rule specified in routing tables. Performing classification in real time on an arbitrary number of fields is a very challenge task. In this paper, we present a new algorithm named EnBiT-PC (EnBiT Packet Classification). and evaluate its performance against real classifiers in use today. We compare with previous algorithms, and found out that EnBiT-PC classify packets very efficiently and has relatively small storage requirements.

  • A bootstrap and aggregating (bagging) vector quantization (VQ) classifier is proposed for speaker recognition. This method obtains multiple training data sets by resampling the original training data set, and then integrates the corresponding multiple classifiers into a single classifier. Experiments involving a closed set, text-independent and speaker identification system are carried out using the TIMIT database. The proposed bagging VQ classifier shows considerably improved performance over the conventional VQ classifier.

  • Boosting, one of the most successful algorithms for supervised learning, searches the most accurate weighted sum of weak classifiers. The search corresponds to a convex programming with non-negativity and affine constraint. In this article, we propose a novel Conjugate Gradient algorithm with the Modified Polak-Ribiera-Polyak conjugate direction. The convergence of the algorithm is proved and we report its successful applications to boosting.

  • Generally, in the underwater target recognition, feature vectors are extracted from the target signal utilizing spatial information according to target shape/material characteristics. In addition, various signal processing techniques have been studied to extract feature vectors which are less sensitive to the location of the receiver. In this paper, we synthesized active echo signals using 3-dimensional highlight distribution. Then, Fractional Fourier transform was applied to echo signals to extract signal features. For the performance verification, classification experiments were performed using backpropagation and probabilistic neural network classifiers based on single aspect and multi-aspect method. As a result, we obtained a better recognition result using proposed feature extraction and multi-aspect based method.

  • The inactive student rate is becoming a major problem in most open universities worldwide. In Indonesia, roughly 36% of students were found to be inactive, in 2005. Data mining had been successfully employed to solve problems in many domains, such as for educational purposes. We are proposing a method for preventing inactive students by mining knowledge from student record systems with several state of the art ensemble methods, such as Bagging, AdaBoost, Random Subspace, Random Forest, and Rotation Forest. The most influential attributes, as well as demographic attributes (marital status and employment), were successfully obtained which were affecting student of being inactive. The complexity and accuracy of classification techniques were also compared and the experimental results show that Rotation Forest, with decision tree as the base-classifier, denotes the best performance compared to other classifiers.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient feature vector extraction and decision fusion methods for the automatic classification of power system disturbances. Here, FFT and WPT(wavelet packet transform) are und to extract an appropriate feature for classifying power quality disturbances with variable properties. In particular, the WPT can be utilized to develop an adaptable feature extraction algorithm using best basis selection. Furthermore. the extracted feature vectors are applied as input to the decision fusion system which combines the decisions of several classifiers having complementary performances, leading to improvement of the classification performance. Finally, the applicability of the proposed approach is demonstrated using some simulations results obtained by analyzing power quality disturbances data generated by using Matlab.

  • In pattern classification, feature selection is an important factor in the performance of classifiers. In particular, when classifying a large number of features or variables, the accuracy and computational time of the classifier can be improved by using the relevant feature subset to remove the irrelevant, redundant, or noisy data. The proposed method consists of two parts: a wrapper part with an improved genetic algorithm(GA) using a new reproduction method and a filter part using mutual information. We also considered feature selection methods based on mutual information(MI) to improve computational complexity. Experimental results show that this method can achieve better performance in pattern recognition problems than other conventional solutions.

  • Mixtures of factor analyzers(MFA) is useful to model the distribution of high-dimensional data on much lower dimensional space where the number of observations is very large relative to their dimension. Mixtures of common factor analyzers(MCFA) can reduce further the number of parameters in the specification of the component covariance matrices as the number of classes is not small. Moreover, the factor scores of MCFA can be displayed in low-dimensional space to distinguish the groups. We propose the factor scores of MCFA as new low-dimensional features for classification of high-dimensional data. Compared with the conventional dimension reduction methods such as principal component analysis(PCA) and canonical covariates(CV), the proposed factor score was shown to have higher correct classification rates for three real data sets when it was used in parametric and nonparametric classifiers.

  • Predicting the cellular location of an unknown protein gives a valuable information for inferring the possible function of the protein. For more accurate prediction system, we need a good feature extraction method that transforms the raw sequence data into the numerical feature vector, minimizing information loss. In this paper, we propose new methods of extracting underlying features only from the sequence data by computing pairwise sequence alignment scores. In addition, we use composition based features to improve prediction accuracy. To construct an SVM ensemble from separately trained SVM classifiers, we propose specificity based weighted majority voting. The overall prediction accuracy evaluated by the 5-fold cross-validation reached 88.53% for the eukaryotic animal data set. By comparing the prediction accuracy of various feature extraction methods, we could get the biological insight on the location of targeting information. Our numerical experiments confirm that our new feature extraction methods are very useful for predicting subcellular localization of proteins.
