With the increasing proliferation of World Wide Web, electronic mail systems have become very widely used communication tools. Researches on e-mail classification have been very important in that e-mail classification system is a major engine for e-mail response management systems which mine unstructured e-mail messages and automatically categorize them. in this research we develop e-mail classifiers for e-mail Response Management Systems (ERMS) using naive bayesian learning and centroid-based classification. We analyze which method performs better under which conditions, comparing classification accuracies which may depend on the structure, the size of training data set and number of classes, using the different data set of an on-line shopping mall and a credit card company. The developed e-mail classifiers have been successfully implemented in practice. The experimental results show that naive bayesian learning performs better, while centroid-based classification is more robust in terms of classification accuracy.
This paper discusses a new weighting method for text analyzing from the view point of supervised learning. The term frequency and inverse term frequency measure (tf-idf measure) is famous weighting method for information retrieval, and this method can be used for text analyzing either. However, it is an experimental weighting method for information retrieval whose effectiveness is not clarified from the theoretical viewpoints. Therefore, other effective weighting measure may be obtained for document classification problems. In this study, we propose the optimal weighting method for document classification problems from the view point of supervised learning. The proposed measure is more suitable for the text classification problem as used training data than the tf-idf measure. The effectiveness of our proposal is clarified by simulation experiments for the text classification problems of newspaper article and the customer review which is posted on the web site.

This study suggests integrated neural network models for Interest rate forecasting using change-point detection, classifiers, and classification functions based on structural change. The proposed model is composed of three phases with tee-staged learning. The first phase is to detect successive and appropriate structural changes in interest rare dataset. The second phase is to forecast change-point group with classifiers (discriminant analysis, logistic regression, and backpropagation neural networks) and their. combined classification functions. The fecal phase is to forecast the interest rate with backpropagation neural networks. We propose some classification functions to overcome the problems of two-staged learning that cannot measure the performance of the first learning. Subsequently, we compare the structured models with a neural network model alone and, in addition, determine which of classifiers and classification functions can perform better. This article then examines the predictability of the proposed classification functions for interest rate forecasting using structural change.

In this paper, we develop a galaxy image classification method based on hand-crafted features and machine learning techniques. Additionally, we provide an empirical analysis to reveal which combination of the techniques is effective for galaxy image classification. To achieve this, we developed a framework which consists of four modules such as preprocessing, feature extraction, feature post-processing, and classification. Finally, we found that the best technique for galaxy image classification is a method to use a median filter, ORB vector features and a voting classifier based on RBF SVM, random forest and logistic regression. The final method is efficient so we believe that it is applicable to embedded environments.
Crop diseases affect crop production, more than 30 billion USD globally. We proposed a classification study of crop species and diseases using deep learning algorithms for corn, cucumber, pepper, and strawberry. Our study has three steps of species classification, disease detection, and disease classification, which is noteworthy for using captured images without additional processes. We designed deep learning approach of deep learning convolutional neural networks based on Mask R-CNN model to classify crop species. Inception and Resnet models were presented for disease detection and classification sequentially. For classification, we trained Mask R-CNN network and achieved loss value of 0.72 for crop species classification and segmentation. For disease detection, InceptionV3 and ResNet101-V2 models were trained for nodes of crop species on 1,500 images of normal and diseased labels, resulting in the accuracies of 0.984, 0.969, 0.956, and 0.962 for corn, cucumber, pepper, and strawberry by InceptionV3 model with higher accuracy and AUC. For disease classification, InceptionV3 and ResNet 101-V2 models were trained for nodes of crop species on 1,500 images of diseased label, resulting in the accuracies of 0.995 and 0.992 for corn and cucumber by ResNet101 with higher accuracy and AUC whereas 0.940 and 0.988 for pepper and strawberry by Inception.
As the prevention of fatal accidents is considered an essential part of social responsibilities, both government and individual have devoted efforts to mitigate the unsafe conditions and behaviors that facilitate accidents. Several studies have analyzed the factors that cause fatal accidents and compared them to those of non-fatal accidents. However, studies on mathematical and systematic analysis techniques for identifying the features of fatal accidents are rare. Recently, various industrial fields have employed machine learning algorithms. This study aimed to apply machine learning algorithms for the classification of fatal and non-fatal accidents based on the features of each accident. These features were obtained by text mining literature on accidents. The classification was performed using four machine learning algorithms, which are widely used in industrial fields, including logistic regression, decision tree, neural network, and support vector machine algorithms. The results revealed that the machine learning algorithms exhibited a high accuracy for the classification of accidents into the two categories. In addition, the importance of comparing similar cases between fatal and non-fatal accidents was discussed. This study presented a method for classifying accidents using machine learning algorithms based on the reports on previous studies on accidents.

Binary classification has been broadly investigated in machine learning. In addition, binary classification can be easily extended to multi class problems. To successfully utilize machine learning methods for classification tasks, preprocessing and feature extraction steps are essential. These are important steps to improve their classification performances. In this paper, we propose a new learning method based on weighted least squares. In the weighted least squares, designing weights has a significant role. Due to this necessity, we also propose a new technique to obtain weights that can achieve feature transformation. Based on this weighting technique, we also propose a method to combine the learning and feature extraction processes together to perform both processes simultaneously in one step. The proposed method shows the promising performance on five UCI machine learning data sets.

As the use of artificial intelligence technologies such as machine learning increases in research fields that predict learning outcomes or optimize learning pathways, the use of artificial intelligence in education is gradually making progress. This research is gradually evolving into more advanced artificial intelligence methods such as deep learning and reinforcement learning. This study aims to improve the method of predicting future learning performance based on the learner's past learning performance-history data. Therefore, to improve prediction performance, we propose conditional probability applying the Markov Chain method. This method is used to improve the prediction performance of the classifier by allowing the learner to add learning history data to the classification prediction in addition to classification prediction by machine learning. In order to confirm the effectiveness of the proposed method, a total of more than 30 experiments were conducted per algorithm and indicator using empirical data, 'Teaching aid-based early childhood education learning performance data'. As a result of the experiment, higher performance indicators were confirmed in cases using the proposed method than in cases where only the classification algorithm was used in all cases.
Software classification has several applications such as copyright infringement detection, malware classification, and software automatic categorization in software repositories. It can be also employed by software filtering systems to prevent the transmission of illegal software. If illegal software is identified by measuring software similarity in software filtering systems, the average number of comparisons can be reduced by shrinking the search space. In this study, we focused on the classification of Windows executables using API call information and machine learning. We evaluated the classification performance of machine learning-based classifier according to the refinement method for API information and machine learning algorithm. The results showed that the classification success rate of SVM (Support Vector Machine) with PolyKernel was higher than other algorithms. Since the API call information can be extracted from binary executables and machine learning-based classifier can identify tampered executables, API call information and machine learning-based software classifiers are suitable for software filtering systems.
The use of increased computing power, machine learning, and deep learning techniques have dramatically increased in various sectors. In particular, image detection algorithms are broadly used in forestry and remote sensing areas to identify forest types and tree species. However, in South Korea, machine learning has rarely, if ever, been applied in forestry image detection, especially to classify tree species. This study integrates the application of machine learning and forest image detection; specifically, we compared the ability of two machine learning data collection methods, namely image data captured by forest experts (D1) and web-crawling (D2), to automate the classification of five trees species. In addition, two methods of characterization to train/test the system were investigated. The results indicated a significant difference in classification accuracy between D1 and D2: the classification accuracy of D1 was higher than that of D2. In order to increase the classification accuracy of D2, additional data filtering techniques were required to reduce the noise of uncensored image data.
