A Study for Communication Mode of Bus Information System (도시별·용도지역별 주차특성 분석)

  • Rapid urbanization occurred a variety of transportation problems. Parking problem is one of the most problems of transportation problem then transportation engineers would get involved in trying to solve parking problem. A way to overcome a variety of parking problems needs preliminary data for conditions of parking but it lacks the preliminary data to do so. Thus this study analyzed a characteristic of a parking through a field survey for parking in Daegu Metropolitan City and Ulsan Metropolitan City. This study analyzed parking turnover, parking use ratio and parking basic unit for characteristic of a parking of each use districts and each cities. This study result reveals difference between the use districts' parking characteristic and cities' parking characteristic. Thus a close examination for use districts' parking characteristic and cities' parking characteristic is a prerequisite for a rational parking policy.

  • A few of new and large cities have been developed and developing at some areas surrounding Seoul, a capital city of Korea. Thus, commuters from new city to downtown are considerably increasing and the present network of road and railway will be short of transportation capacities. A special problem is that new cities are far from downtown than pre-existing new cities and the entering to downtown is required to a considerable time and cost. Therefore, a new conceptional transportation system has to be substitute with old-fashioned road and railway. This paper presents the feasibility of the deep & high-speed nonstop railway which is able to access to the downtown with ease and fast from new city. If the railway is located under deep position, indemnity cost of land will be notably down. If the railway runs with high speed and has a nonstop concept, the access time to downtown will be remarkably short.

Sustainable Buildings - or Sustainable Cities?

  • China's rapidly growing cities offer a unique opportunity to create highly sustainable communities. Architects and their clients, typically real estate developers, are highly focused on strategies that are effective at reducing energy and water usage at the scale of the individual building or within a master plan of multiple related buildings. However, a closer look at energy consumption reveals that transportation uses more energy worldwide than residential and commercial buildings combined. In light of this, it is appropriate that China is making massive investments in transportation infrastructure like heavy rail rapid transit and grade separated expressways, but the end result of these investments to date has been to enable people to live further from where they work and shop rather than closer - while simultaneously not creating walkable communities. Using positive and negative examples from Asia and the rest of the world, this article will investigate the specific urban design policies such as height limits, setbacks, land use restrictions, parking ratios, and parcel size which might change to enable the creation of truly sustainable communities for China's 21st century.

A Change of Yearly Atmospheric Clearness Index in Korea (국내 대기청명도의 경년변화)

  • Since the atmospheric clearness index is main factor for evaluating atmosphere environment, it is necessary to estimate its characteristics all over the major cities in Korea. We have begun collecting clearness index data since 1982 at 16 different cities and considerable effort has been made for constructing a standard value from measured data at each city. The new clearness data will be extensively used by evaluating atmospheric environment as well as by solar application system designer or users. Yearly mean 64% of the atmospheric clearness index was evaluated for clear day all over, and significant difference of horizontal global insolation is observed between 1982~1986 and 1987~1991, 1992~1996, 1997~2001, 2002~2009 through 16 different cities in Korea.

Parental Emotion Socialization in Military Families

  • Reintegration after military deployment is a significant family stressor. Guided by Eisenberg's heuristic model of socialization of emotions, the present study examined the relationships between parental emotion socialization, children's emotionality and children's internalizing symptoms using a military sample. It was also investigated whether gender of parents and children impacted parental emotion socialization. Questionnaires were gathered from 248 families with a 4-12 year old child (M = 7.78) in which a parent had been deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan. Children's emotionality was positively correlated with children's internalizing symptoms and non-supportive parental emotion socialization. Independent-t-tests and two-way ANOVAs showed that mothers reported more supportive reactions towards children's negative emotions than fathers. Father reports of expressive encouragement were positively associated with child reports of anxiety and depression. Child gender did not influence how parents responded to negative emotions. Implications and future directions were discussed.

  • To solve the traffic problems of small cities like Chung Ju City, electronic communications equipment and the introduction of advanced technologies are being used or promoted. Other local areas with developed systems in place are being investigated for applicability. Systems like these will be introduced. This system will embody an organized, efficient transportation and safety system within this study At the moment, to solve the problem of reoccurring traffic in small towns in our country, we must develop an ITS service. We are now in the process of selecting and establishing the most adaptable ITS service to a small city For this purpose, we have studied existing records; taken a poll of the citizens of Chung Ju; examined present traffic conditions, examined road capacities; and reviewed available means of transportation. To accomplish the purpose of a thesis like this, we will research and analyze developed nations' and domestic cities' existing systems, construction and operation. We are in the process of building an ITS System which is the most adaptable to a small city like Chung Ju.

A Study on the Characteristics of Design Council Criteria of Housing - Focused on Metropolitan Cities - (공동주택 심의기준의 형태규제 특성에 관한 연구 - 광역자치단체의 심의기준을 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of this study is to find the characteristics of design council criteria of metropolitan cities in Koreas. For comparative analysis, four main concepts are used ; 1) self-administering vs discretionary 2) prescriptive vs performance 3) conformity vs contrast 4) point system of criteria. The results of this study were as follows; 1) there were three types of cirteria; strong discretionary (DG), discretionary oriented (BS, US) and combination type (SL, DJ, ICN, GJ) 2) structural properties of forms are controlled by prescriptive criteria, and layout or design elements by performance criteria 3) visual openness and diversity are main items of most metropolitan cities 4) street-faced design was neglected but tended to focus on the self-contained layout 5) visual density indexes were diversified from elevation blockage degree. For further advanced research, it is necessary to investigate the actual effects and differences of regulative types - prescriptive vs performance, and of each design criteria, especially prescriptive ones in improving the design quality.

  • Critics of height argue that it de-humanizes our cities. Yet a critical mass is a necessity for vibrant city life, and height is a key contributor. If we can overcome the environmental impacts and technicalities of building tall and dense, our cities' streets can thrive and prosper. To make this happen, we must move towards working together to share resources, so we can ensure the continuity of the public realm. We already have the tools to do this; the challenge lies in the coordination of the public and private institutions that govern urban space. District heating and cooling systems; shared logistics spaces; care, responsibility and ownership of the public realm between buildings; seamless connectivity between modes of transport; creative combinations of shelter and seating, and the placement of buildings so that they are not overbearing to the streets around them - these attributes can be found in many places, though rarely all at once. This paper looks at the development of the city and offers Barangaroo South, Sydney, which addresses all these aspects, as a potential template for future city planning.

Research Method and Prediction Model of PM2.5 in Cities

  • Hefei has suffered from heavy air pollution, especially car exhaust and industry emissions. The smoke contains PM2.5 and PM10. These smoke will enter people's bodies and have a bad impact on the human body. This review is about PM2.5. This review covers the sources and hazards of PM2.5. It introduces the use of modelling methods to analyze PM2.5 pollution in various places and proposes treatment measures. These cities were heavily polluted by PM2.5, and after the local government's management and renovation, there has been a significant improvement. However, there are still many shortcomings in the process of pollution improvement. This review combines the means used in the process of pollution prevention and control in Handan City, Beijing. Hefei now suffers from some of the same pollution as these cities did in the past.

Comparison of the fine particle concentrations in Seoul and other foreign mega-cities (서울과 외국 대도시의 미세입자 조성 비교)

  • Temporal trends of the PM10 and PM2.5 mass concentrations, and the concentrations of chemical species (sulfate, nitrate, ammonium, OC, and EC) in PM2.5 at Seoul are compared with the reported results from other mega cities in the world. The mass concentrations of PM10 and PM2.5 at Seoul show decreasing trend. However, the concentration levels are still higher than other cities except Beijing. The sulfate concentration at Seoul has decreased while those of nitrate and ammonium have increased. The concentrations of OC and EC show no apparent trend.
